I'm back for a final entry after an afternoon of watching sports, meeting with someone that's interested in a truck I'm selling and putting the phone down so it could download over 20k photos. Don't ask how many were beer photos!:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: I'm tired after a full day and ready to close my eyes. Let's do this before I fall asleep.

I purchased a 750ml bottle of Poetic Hustler DDH DIPA with Nelson Sauvin hops from Mikerphone Brewing in Illinois at Binny's Lincoln Park last Saturday. There's no visible date, the abv. on the label states 8.0% and I'm pouring the contents into my Cubs shaker pint to celebrate the sweep over the Cards today.:grinning:

It pours a cloudy pale yellow like pineapple juice leaving a small finger of creamy white foam behind. It slowly settles revealing moderate lacing. The smell is heavy floral and spice along with passionfruit, grapefruit and fresh rubber. Taste is dominated by floral notes and peppery spice along with grapefruit and white grapes. There's fresh rubber in the finish. The feel is light and pillowy up front, turning very bitter and dry with a little burn.

I love my hops, but there's something going on here that's just too spicy and bitter for me. Perhaps the Nelson Sauvin hops? I'm okay with my purchase, but it's something I won't be seeking out in the future. My score is 3.9 / rDev-11.4%.

The sun has set on another NBS and the final weekend of summer. Have yourselves a great week. I leave you with a photo of today's sunset and the official scorecard......

Good evening NBS ladies and gentlemen. My new brew today is the #1 beer in TN according to BA. It's a local cult classic and I actually had to trade for just to get my hands on it. Been sitting on it for nearly a year, but today just felt right.

    Full Review:
    4.48/5 rDev +2.3%
    look: 4.5 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.5

2016 vintage, nearly a year old

Pours is black with a big frothy 2 finger khaki head that lingered.

Smell is toffee, chocolate, bourbon, cinnimon, slight vanilla

Taste is big chocolate tootsie roll like, with a perfect amount of bourbon to compliment. Cinnamon really shines towards the end, followed by hints of a mellowing oak and vanilla.

Mouth feel is thick and chewy on the front of the palate, exactly what I expect for the style. But seems more medium bodied during and after the swallow.

Overall, I can totally understand the local hype surrounding this beer. I'm enjoying it much more than some extremely saught sfter over hyped beers of the same style. Only thing i would change is a bit less cinnimon but thats a personal preference.

Pours black with a thin coffee head which dies immediately. Smells like a glass of sweet chocolate milk. Tastes of bitter baker's chocolate. I'm enjoying the smell more. Thin mouthfeel, and no hint of the 6.8% abv. Don't see a date on it, but apparently it's a winter seasonal.

    Well Hello NBS Faithful.
And here's a Very Late Night NBS.
Thanks for the thoughtful beginning @lordofthewiens . I too, like many of us, began my beering (it can be a verb- trust me, I'm a teacher) with the binge drinking culture. Thankfully I survived those days, even one epic evening with a stolen car, a lost contact lens, and waking up in a location where my buddy and I literally did not know which country we were in:zipper_mouth:
I'm contented with my evolution to a beer geek, developing a TRUE appreciation for the art, history, science, and culture of beer. And the camaraderie as well.

I've been busy here. Weather has been fine but LOTS of work, some health issues with one of our new canine family members, helping take care of my dad's house while he traveled to Alaska, and a Black Tuesday blending event.
Work is work, pup seems to be doing ok so far today, Pops got back late last night, and my team did not place in the Black Tuesday blending competition:slight_frown:.

Since y'all are into beer I think I'll tell you about the blending. I was shooting for a Thai iced tea inspired blend. I really think we got close. And the flavor was really tasty. Look might've turned off the judges a bit---a little roiled looking. But the smell was amazing, really let you smell the black tea with hints of cinnamon, cardamon, ginger, and even a hint of orange peel, yet you also knew you were getting Black Tuesday. And the flavor went in the same direction with a hint of the lactose/cream component and a lighter spice note. Also in the flavor, these Thai iced tea flavors definitely did not overwhelm the Black Tuesday. I liked it well enough that I plan on replicating at home with one of my own (expensive) bottles.

Anyway, both the wife and I are at separate tables working on our respective lesson plans for tomorrow. She really wanted an Oktoberfest bier. We ran out of Goose Island's, so I pulled out one of her former favorites; Sam Adams. But I let her have the awesome Creature Comforts glass that @JBowenGeorgia (aka I wasn't even a noobie when I was a noobie) sent me in the last NBS BIF. Thanks again, I love that glass (when I have permission to use it:rofl:).

So tonight I'm sipping on a SoCal classic from the southern part of my county and the northern part of San Diego county- Swami's IPA from Pizza Port. Not a new one for me to be true, but hopefully it will be soon for a few of you fine folks. You've been warned...even if you don't know you've been warned.:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Finally getting to have a beer, late night on the east coast for sure. Had to work yesterday and today to make up for my employer being without power and closed the first part of the week(The joys of working in production and making customers happy), first Sunday I have worked in years so I can't complain. Got in from work and catching up on some homework/quizzes, I'm not a fan of logic and truth tables. I should have stayed the course 25 years ago when I started college instead of practing my role of beer chug relay anchorman on a nightly basis.

Picked this one up on a road trip last week. I have been enjoying many hop bombs from that trip as well as Creature Comforts first 16oz can release (Duende) so this beer is definitely a change of pace.

Poured a hazy light orange with a smaller than expected head that quickly disappeared.
Smells mildly of orange and lemon, bread, a light musty funk in there too.
Taste was a slight citrus with a hint of pepper, very mild earthy funk.
Light to medium feel with a dry finish.
Overall a tasty beer, hops were milder than I expected from Trillium, especially after the DDH beers I had.
    Until next week, Cheers!

I couldn't agree more. This is a great one. And a few people in here are going to get some...really soon. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: But you should tell these fine folks what you're getting in the flavor/aroma range.
    Cheers
