Well, I am travelling so I have a mini-fridge of new beers that I have been working on all week. It has been a long week of work, and I am learning yet again that I can no longer do the marathon hours. We had a lot of struggles, but also one breakthrough moment that led to success. If the plant maintained and controlled the process through shift change, we can start putting product in retail packaging today. Our plant teams are just awesome, putting up with the pain of change, totally supportive, making suggestions, and bringing ideas to fruition. This one has significant implications - financially and literally for the survival of our business.

Three old new beers this week and I have something special set aside fir today (at least I hope it is special).

Reuben's Brews Pilsner - a Czech style pilsner. Good take n the style.

PCT Porter from Crux Fermentation Project. Slightly beyond middle of the road, slid beer.

Coffee Tomkins from Three Magnets. The best of the three with huge coffee. The can art - i dont think I have ever mentioned it in a review. It is beautiful artwork except for the text, which is impossible to read as the color is blended so closely. Must be their thing because another can, different beer, might be worse...

Hopefully a short day today, but not short enough to watch the Patriots game out here in the West... And I should be back with at least one more new one.

A- A very nice light yellowish haze color with a decent head and nice lacing.

S- A very pleasant citrus scent.

T- The taste follows the smell, decent carbonation, and a very well balanced character.

M- A light sour taste makes it very drinkable.

O- I truly enjoyed drinking this beer, very nuanced.

My first beer this not truly fall like Sunday (high expected near 90) is from Eddyline Restaurant and Brewery and given to me by @Wasatch. The writeup of Jolly Roger black lager reads:
The beer is pretty near black, and has a lovely beige to tan head that keeps up the fight the whole way down the glass. I am not getting much lacing, however.
The nose has a nice chocolate-strong malt nose, but also a little hint of fruit blossoms - maybe citrus. This last part comes out in the taste a little bit more than I'd expect. There's an almost tart opening that is quelled by a bit of bitterness. The malt comes across more of coffee than chocolate in a little twist. The back end has another little tang and a slight tin note.

This one seemed a bit more like an American Porter to me, with the blending of the notes in the beer was somewhat choppy. The flavors didn't roll together on my palate and this might have also affected the feel to me - which seemed a little rough. As such, for me with this sitting, I am not in great agreement with the last sentence in the quote above.

Chris, I can report that I was unable to find a date on my bottle and I looked really hard to find one.

    Cheers!

I enjoy Dales quite a bit, and I love Daisy Cutter. I can't get the last one here, but I can when I back in Pa in mid October. I'd also put Pseudo Sue into this group as well, an incredibly dry Pale Ale that I like a lot too, and then there's fresh Zombie Dust, insanely good stuff, they list it as a PA, but it's obviously very hop forward.

Good morning, NBSers! I'm glad I can finally enjoy your company in force for the first time in a while (last week, I was still easing back into things; this week, not so much!).

First up, as noted over in WBAYDN?, is Bell's Special Double Cream Stout.

As the bottle mentions, it's superbly creamy; really, a world-class mouthfeel - especially at only 6.1% ABV. The flavor, however, is fairly pedestrian. I'd enjoy having this as a local stout offering on tap, to be sure, and I wouldn't feel bad about picking up a sixer, but it's not something for which I'd make a trip.

New beer number two for today...
Duclaw Brewing's Never Tell Me The Odds DIPA (8% abv) featuring Citra and Mosaic hops...
I can see tiny particles of sediment in suspension throughout the beer... On the palate, bursts with citrus and tropical fruit impressions - ripe and fresh - courtesy of that Citra and Mosaic hoppage - soft and plush with a moderate bitterness and mild sweetness... Smooth and juicy; citrus sticks to the tongue with a pithy shellac n the finish... Canned 8/24/17...

    Hey what's going on folks!?

Ladies and Gentlemen, our hero doesn't have much time, as I am scrambling a bit this morning.

    But getting one in!

What's new for our hero today?!

    ------------------------

Poured from the can into a snifter glass.

Dark tan to mocha head, balloons out of the can into a solid two fingers, with a faint soft appearance. Dissolves slowly, fairly good size bubbles if tiny. Body color is a very nice dark walnut brown, kind of mud like looking, a faint hint of leg, and pretty opaque.

For a diverse mix of ingredients, this is pretty basic if solid on the nose. Aroma goes for a bit of roast softness, almost chewy with a touch of thick muted coffee, but with a vanilla like sweetness. A real kind of orange character to this which brings out a great chocolate orange quality, but it's small, and involves some real exploration. Too bad, that's a favorite flavor combination for me.

Palate sticks to simple. Roast quality and a touch of cocoa powder, but with an almost chili like powder flavor. Finishes with a touch of tang, a little bit of zest, but some very different cocoa bitterness. Very light bodied for 12 percent, as the malt bill seems to really wash and compounding the much dry and powdery flavor.

Overall enjoyable, but the added ingredients seem to be adding only a little bit of nuances and uniqueness to the beers overall palate. Maybe even taking away some of it's quality?

Mosaic Mood from Destination Unknown, a DDH APA. Pours a medium Amber with an inch and a half head that dissipated pretty quickly to a quarter inch ring and left many rings of lacing. Smell is on the sweet side with notes of honey, citrus, onion and bread malts. Tastes of grapefruit, orange peel, honey, onion. Floral notes pepper and resin. Very dry and bitter finish, light to medium bodied, lightly carbonated and a slightly watery mouth feel.

Second new beer of the day is a yard work recovery choice: Founders Green Zebra watermelon Gose.

Very enjoyable brew, although it strays a little too far into candy territory at times. Good balance of mild tartness, equally mild sweetness, saltiness, and watermelon fruitiness.

Good morning, NBS crew! @cjgiant , you're making me think it's Monday with all this school talk! Although the analogy you draw is apt I suppose :stuck_out_tongue:

I have several newbies to drink today, but starting with this collab that has been staring at me in the fridge for a few weeks now.

    The Veil/Monkish - Mouth Body
    DIPA - 8% abv - canned 9/4/17 (20 days ago)
    Score: 4.29 (+0.2% rDev)

L - 2-finger eggshell head sits atop a burnt orange body.

S - mostly citrus with some tropical fruits thrown in.

T - oranges, a little dirt (I get this a lot from Veil), a little booze, with a small bit of candy sweetness.

    F - super-creamy, full body.

O - I still haven't tried a full-on Monkish, so I'm not sure what their influence is here (besides the crazy-creamy body). Still, this drinks like one of the better Veils, and I wish I had more than one!

Good morning, NBS! My day is about to get started with a work picnic followed by the always wonderful Cleveland Orchestra this afternoon but of course I had to stop by here first. I'm also already looking forward to next Sunday as I know I'll have something new to open as I'm taking a brief trip to Green Bay, WI this week for my first ever game at Lambeau Field on Thursday. Any BAs/NBSers who tailgate there, let me know.

Trying this out today. I've been enjoying some saisons recently and this is probably the best of the bunch. Mixed fermentation, super clean, with its simplicity actually creating depth and complexity. It has a nice lemon/lemongrass (brewed with lemon verbena though I've never tasted that plant on its own), coriander, and noticeable acidity that leads to a nice crispness. Overall 4.27 rDev +1.4% so others clearly like it as well. I frequently associate Jackie O's with dark beers (I'll likely be back with a collaboration of theirs tonight) but they obviously know how to make a killer saison as well.

    Cheers!

Good Morning all and happy NBS, thanks @cjgiant for getting us started. This morning all my Sunday chores are done and my first beer up is Goose Island Pepe Nero. This was bottled on 9/30/13 and says it continues to develop in the bottle for up to 5 years. It is a Belgian Style Farmhouse Ale brewed with Peppercorns and clocks in at 6.4%. I picked this up in Asheville a few weeks ago, a fellow NBSer @FFFjunkie actually saw it in the singles cooler and told me to give it a try, I am glad I did. This thing has a head that will not quit and while the aroma was a little on the light side the flavors were really great and stood out well with lots of dark fruit and spices. Hope to be back later with another new beer until then hope everyone has a great Sunday!!!

Appearance 4 - Pours thin cola like color with thick never ending tan head. Big sheets of lacing around the glass.

Aroma 3.75 - The Belgian yeast and light spice stand out to me first. There are also very nice aromas of raisin fig and plum and a very light caramel.

Taste 4.25 - Nice caramel and dark fruit are up front with a nice light funk on the finish. The spices come in about mid way and there is also a light chocolate taste as it warms.

Feel 4 - Light side of medium higher than normal carbonation and a light slick feel on the finish.

Overall 4.04 - I am really impressed with this one, great flavors and very easy drinking.

Happy NBS. We have set 3 straight high temp records in WI and will likely add a 4th today. I guess August and September decided to switch places this year.

Enjoying Warpigs Foggy Geezer this morning. It pours an amber orange with a bit of haze and 1.5 finger white head that fades into a thin cap. A very hop forward aroma with a scent of citrus and pine. Big citrus hop scent of grapefruit, orange peel, mango, tangerine, and lemon with some pineapple. A light malt of caramel and touch of honey. Flavor is juicy and earthy hop with notes of citrus and pine. Upfront juicy citrus hop notes of grapefruit, orange peel, tangerine, mango, and lemon with some pineapple that settles with some light caramel malt. Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation and a bitter dry finish. It's a well made IPA.

T- The taste follows the smell, decent carbonation, and a very well balanced character.

M- A light sour taste makes it a very drinkable and very enjoyable beer.

O- I truly enjoyed drinking this beer, very well done and probably one of the better Grisette style beers I have drank.

I'll throw in my general agreement - it seemed more like a fruit beer than a gose to me, with it having a bit of a fruit juice aspect to it with more of a candy sweetening - though I didn't think it strayed all the way into cloying or sugary. Still have a few left, might have to make an effort to rid the fridge of them since it's seemingly a summer-like day here today.

    Good afternoon NBS
I've made a pit stop at Black Acre Brewing in Indy while making the trip to visit family in Ft. Wayne. I thought I would continue my Oktoberfest journey for this season. Here goes.

16oz draft served in a becher glass cold 6% ABV. Served with little off white head and no lacing. Not much aroma. Taste is burnt sugar & nuttiness up front rolling into an offsetting bitterness. It's balanced and clean. Mouthfeel is medium to thin bodied, adequately carbonated, and dry in the finish. Overall, good, but not as good as it's rated here on BA.

There's no beer at Mom & Dad's so I'll catch up with you all in a couple days. Cheers! :beers:

New beer from one of my favorite Swedish breweries, Brewski. Brewski is one of the most talented of the newer Swedish breweries. They're most known for their IPAs, but I think they beat pretty much anyone when it comes to this style, Berliner Weisse. This one, 50 States of Freedom, which is a collabaration with Cycle, is made with fresh limes. Anyone visiting the fair country of Sween should give Brewski a go, you won't regret it!

As for the beer, it pours a semi hazy light yellow, with just a little bit of fuzzy foam.

The smell is very crisp and tart, with absolute heaps of lime and some lemon finding their way up your nostrils. There are hints of salt and mint, which gives it a very cocktail-y smell.

The taste is sweet and sour right off the bat. Wonderful waves of lime roll over the tongue, and it's instantly refreshing. The citrus get augmented by a slight creamy, lactose taste, which turns it into a sort of tart milkshake kind of thing. Some salt and just a hint of peach comes in at the end, and the finish is tart and dry.

Mouthfeel is fairly thin, and very sparkly, with nice bubbles dancing around my mouth.

Overall, another terrific Berliner by Brewski. Very drinkable, and just drains away quickly, but there is nice depth here as well.

First up today is Weyerbacher Dallas Sucks. As an Eagles fan I had to buy this; I like that Weyerbacher is making a beer targeted at the market they brew in, but I like how they handled some of the backlash from the name even more:

12 oz can, dated 9/1/17, poured into a tulip

A- A slightly hazy golden amber with a two finger white head.

S- Piney/earthy hops, some sweet bread, touch of citrus

T- More citrus than the nose, piney finish, some earthy hops, bready malts, a little sweet, touch of wet grass.

    M- Smooth, medium body.

O- A solid classic pale ale, well balanced. Easy to drink, worth picking up if you like more balanced pale ales versus pale ale that are hopped like IPAs.
