Tired Hands - Where Did I Come From? Am I A Bug?
    DIPA - 8.3% abv
    Canned 9/13/17 (18 days ago)
    Score: 3.85 (-8.3% rDev)

    L - 3-finger off-white head atop an orange-brown body.

S - fruity sweets, some booze, a little grapefruit.

T - candy-like sweetness, mixed with dirt-crusted oranges. Mildly bitter.

F - medium body. Higher than average carb.

O - too sweet for my liking. Not one of Tired Hands' better offerings. Although since gaining access to the Veil, I find most of their DIPAs lacking in bitterness.

I am a runner as well, have finished almost 70 races but my running career is winding down as I have Morton's Neuroma in my right foot, so I am relegated to shorter runs now. The festivities of races is amazing. I'm doing a 5K Octoberfest next Saturday with beer and brats at the finish, one of the best experiences in life, really. You know what I mean.

Happy NBS , beautiful Sunday 70 ish and sunny, as always a great start.

A bit of a late start my wife made me help her clean the house, so now I'm sweaty and thirsty. What I have is from Ozzylizard and it's a 3F Space Station Middle Finger APA. I love their hoppy beers always well done this one is no exception. Beautiful pour , very hazy leans toward dark orange, golden, terrific head. I'm having problems with my sniffer so most scent in kinda lost on me right now. I'd say this was medium to full bodied, tremendously clean clear hop bite , kinda like biting into a crisp apple. I like balanced beers and this one is superbly so, clean very satisfying. The hops are very well played, not a clue to the hops, and I know nothing about this beer I didn't look it up before pouring it. So no clue to much. I hate rating beers to numbers but taste and look would maybe 4.25 plus, maybe 4.5, infinitely better than say s SNPA to class as an example. This would be worth trading for imo.

G' afternoon NBS-ers! Today's entry was purchased a couple of months ago when Pops was down visiting. We didn't drink it then so.....today's the day. #beerwithpops

Cage and cork bottle with a best buy date of 01-30-19 stamped on the shoulder of the bottle.

Appearance: Hazy and opaque golden colored body with a thick and pillowy head that rests on the top like gentle sea foam on the beach.

Aroma: Lemon, coriander, and fresh cut ginger root. Belgian yeast spiciness is quite prevalent as well.

Taste/Mouthfeel: Soft mouthfeel with a nice spiciness and some ripe banana. Ginger and citrus are main flavors ending with a dry-bready malt.

Overall: A beautiful looking beer with a beautiful aroma and full of that Unibroue Belgian yeastiness you would expect. Would definitely purchase this one again and especially for the price, I think it was $5.99.

    Cheers

Haha-I found We Ded Mon fairly balanced when compared to the likes of Crucial Taunt (though that was on tap at brewery, however that might affect things). Granted, it likely had a high IBU to counter the added malt, and still showed a bitter side. I only had a little of the beer you showcased (plus a can to get into later), and wasn't overly excited by those initial sips. Maybe the can can change my mind.

Greetings fellow NBSers! A cloudy, chilly 11:25am here in the Fourth Corner, with 52 degrees showing on the banks time/temp clock across the street. My busy season at work is starting to wind down (last weekend, I worked 8 different events, in 7 different locations across the F-Sat-Sun timeframe, sheesh!), but, I have today clear, and get a chance to catch back up with y'all!

My friend and co-worker Steve went to Spain with his son's soccer team a few weeks ago, and he was kind enough to bring me back a couple brews from a stop they made on their way home. To the best of recollection, these will the NBS debuts for these brews: https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/577/244335/

Had this one from @Satch44 in the BIF box after getting in from work late last night/early this morning so technically it was my first NBS for this week.
    18th Street Pins and Needles

Poured a hazy orange, amber with soapy white head.
Smells fruity, mango, orange, sweet candylike citrus, a little weedy.
Taste peach, mango, orange marmalade, a little oniony/weedy on the back end. Some malty sweetness.
    Smooth feel, medium body.
Overall a tasty brew, my first from 18th st.
Had another for mid lawn cutting, between work, school, and the weather it's been a few weeks so had to take a break.
    Transient The Juice Is Loose

Poured a hazy dark orange with whiteish head.
    Smells citrusy, grapefruit, candied orange.
Taste follows, zesty orange, grapefruit balanced with a bit of malt.
Moderate carbonation with a medium to full body.
Overall a very well balanced brew.

At the local brew pub, Maori IPA. This brew was brewed with New Zealand hops Motueka, Nelson, Sauvin and Comet and a bit of Kiwi. Nice brew very balanced with just a hint of the Kiwi. Well done.

I also had that whilst in Spain with Mrs O 6 years ago to visit Little O, who was in Toledo on a "Study Abroad" program (which is code for "College Students go overseas and spend a boatload of their parent's cash getting drunk"). We hit Madrid, Toledo, and Malaga. Toledo was interesting because it's essentially a "fort" city (to protect Madrid from marauders during the days of yore), but we really liked Malaga a lot.

The beer scene in Spain in 2011 was ..... limited. I did discover that European Guinness was significantly better than American Guinness, at least in my opinion.

Somber New Beer Saturday. My 9 year old Aussie, Dakota, quickly fell ill last week. He has been in 24hr care the past 4 days and is unlikely to pull through, so I am pretty heartbroken...

Today's new beer is one I had high hops for, let's see how it turned out. Potosi Ice Breaker pours a deep brown/black with a thin tan head. Head doesn't last long and forms a thin ring around the glass that stays until the end. Aroma is bitter sweet with strong bourbon notes. The flavor is similar and has more bitterness that I would expect in this style. I'm not sure if it is just a harsh bourbon flavor or if too many hops were used in it. I would expect a sweeter, malt chocolate flavor, but this misses the mark. Feel is medium thin, not a rich and smooth feel that I would expect. This one fell a bit short for the $18 price tag.

Up next, some "Grid," identified as
01000111 01110010 01101001 01100100* (which I figured as the binary ASCII codes for the four-letter easier to order beer name). Surprisingly, it's added to this site in binary, and no one has separately added "Grid."

    * if you're on mobile, don't click the "link," if it shows up as such: it's not one, but you may call a foreign country

The brewery is Triple Crossing, the Fulton brewpub wall is visible in back, and we've started getting a few beers up north by them. @vabeerguy suggested I may like this offering, so I went into this pour with a review in mind...

Pours similar to the We Ded Mon from my earlier post, maybe a tad more orange. Similar high haze, but a little better white collar that provides some lacing.

Nose is grass, grapefruit pith, general citrus, a little hint of wild onion.

Taste actually has a little peach note in it, but also bitter enshrouded mango and citrus. My first sips were slightly juicy, but I'm not getting it so much as I analyze. There's a little bit of tartness near the end.

The feel includes a tickling stream of tiny bubbles. Medium body seems lightened a tad by this.

An enjoyable beer but I may be getting palate fatigue after the past couple days of IPAs. I think I will buy a 4-pack and do an official review using one of the cans, referring back to this post.

Oh, the joys of daily fantasy, took out my first pick at QB because I had extra cash and could "upgrade" in that area. So he of course has an awesome first half

    Hello New Beer Sunday!!!
Hello again from Lake of the Woods. Fishing was amazing, we got our limit, and we got soaked from the rain, and 30 mph winds. No fish pics because of this, but it was awesome.

Now to the beer. A new beer to the system, also.

Crazy Napoleon from Wild Mind Artisan Ales.

This stout really poured thick, and a rich black color. Nice chocolate/coffee nose, and flavor. This beer is 8%, but doesn't drink like one. Damn delicious. Damn good, and another amazing beer from Wild Mind.

This will likely be the last new beer for NBS, unless the resort bar has something I've not had. See you all next week. Drink well, and enjoy your new beers.

My net new beer is one I have been looking for Southern Tier Cold Press Coffee Pumking. I think so far between the base beer and the rum barrel aged this is my favorite. I think the coffee while very mild balances well with the pumpkin and spices. The feel is just a little thin for me.

Appearance 4 - Pours light golden color with nice white head that dissipates to a thick ring around the glass.

Aroma 4.25 - Nice pumpkin, cinnamon, just a touch of roasted coffee, vanilla, nutmeg.

Taste 4 - The taste much like the aroma is well balanced. Pumpkin, nutmeg, cinnamon and allspice balanced well with roasted coffee which gives the base beer a little more depth.

Feel 3.75 - Medium bodied just a hint of warmth from the alcohol.

Overall 4.04 - I like this version much more than the base beer, the coffee seems to balance the pumpkin and spices out a little alcohol is well hidden.

New Rhubarb Ale Sunday (Week 658)
Greetings fellow NBSers from on the ridge in Mid Hud Val, NY. Glad to be able to join the party today, have been here there and everywhere lately with one of my other hobbies, picking edible mushrooms. Going south this week methinks, on the elusive trail of the late season myco bounty. Number 2 son and I have done amazingly the last two weeks, twenty pounds maitake drying right now, another few pounds of honeys and blewitts gonna be a duxelles by tomorrow. Only so many you can eat fresh, and I have been having shrooms with almost every meal for the last ten days.

Between my song ,poetry, and short story writing, drum practice, mushroom and wild edible plant learning and picking, reading, reciting, music collecting and listening, antique bottle collecting, bridge playing, and hiking, my retirement has been a blessing. Greatest blessing is the relaxation that a clear mind can offer. I wish @lordofthewiens similar in his soon to be retirement.

Please pardon me if I go a little off the rails in my description of this beer. Like most of you I drink a lot of new and different beers. When one of this quality makes it into my glass it is an experience that can push an overly wordy guy like me into excess. Leifer, by Suarez Family Brewers.
The aroma is so fragrant and full of tart yeast and rhubarb goodness, oaky vanilla notes, pungent succulence, that it literally provokes saliva to shoot in my mouth upon the bouquet entering my nose. But the taste is where this baby lives, a majestic, bold taste that crashes the senses with deliciousness. It is an evolving flavor painting in the mouth that builds into a multi textural layered blend of amazingness. Rhubarb, earthy funk, light tannin, overripe berry, vanilla, rounded tart, hints of floral, hints of jam, some sharper sour notes, perfect attenuation.

Amazingly complex, startlingly delectable, it is the perfect balance we all seek in our lives, here portrayed by brewer's art. Refreshing, and a clean perfect finish that is beyond belief. Likely to give this a 4.9 when I do formal review. Absolute highest recommendation.

Hope you also have a Great American Beer in your glass. Cheers!

And now for a beer from a VT brewery of which I've never heard: Upper Pass.

    Hip 2 the Hops

Upper Pass, if the web page is to be believed, is an idyllic small operation in Central Vermont. My love of all things Vermont is well chronicled, so this was a welcome surprise inclusion in the BIF box from @JBowenGeorgia .

Pours fairly cloudy. Aroma is wonderfully juicy, with equal amounts sharp herbs, tropical fruit, berries, peaches, citrus, and dankness. The website doesn't give any hints, but I wouldn't be surprised to find Galaxy hops as a major component here. Malts are grainy and almost chewy.

Lively and crisp, with balancing bitterness and a wonderful bite. It actually comes across more as a modern dry-hopped APA, and at 6.6%, that seems to be a fair assessment. Really quite enjoyable. I would love to have this on tap nearby.

    Melvin Hubert

Postimage is acting wonky for me  so I'm trying Imgur here for the first time.

Including this beer, I have three different Melvin pales in the fridge. Will attempt to hit them all for the thread in order of increasing ABV.

Hubert looks fantastic. A pale golden amber. There's a pleasant bitterness and a very strong citrus punch melange that I guess leans towards tangerine. Goes down easy but with plenty of bite.

This isn't my personal idea of an ideal pale ale, but I could see how it would be for someone else. Nicely done.

    Next up Hailstorm Cumulus

Pours a hazy golden orange with a finger of white head that maintained a thin cap until the last few sips.
Smells of tropical and citrus fruits, orange, pineapple, mango, a hint of pine.
Taste follows pineapple, mango, orange, a bit of pine with that little Simcoe punch in the finish.
Medium feel with good carbonation and a somewhat dry finish.
This is the second Hailstorm NE style IPA I've had and I like their interpretation.

Brew received via the NBS BIF from the great and generous @jhartley.

This is not the official share date, but I got enough tasty brews that I can start early, and probably last for the next few months of NBS!
Big shout out to my sender and another big shout out to @beertunes for organizing the BIF and keeping everyone in line.

Just before receiving these brews I read about Coppertail Brewing Co. in the most recent Beer Advocate magazine. They have some awesome looking artwork on their bottles, really original and well-thought out.

I decided to dig into Nightswim American Porter on this chilly fall day. Hit the 30's overnight and don't have the boiler up yet, luckily the wood stove is keeping things reasonably comfortable.

The pour is nearly black, but hints at really dark brown when held up to the light. Some light passes through the edges. When poured forcefully a thick foamy tan head appears and slowly settles into a collar around the glass.

Aroma is roasty with hints of dark roast bitter coffee and bittersweet baking chocolate. A slight earthy pine presence behind everything.

The flavor is full of rich roasted malts, toasty, smokey, bitter and balanced by some sweetness, cocoa, coffee and touch of smoke.

THe beer has smooth moderate carbonation suitable for the style, bitterness from the dark malts and a touch of piney hops. Easy to drink.

Overall a really nice brew. Lots of rich flavors, balanced bitterness and sweetness and an approachable ABV. Would be a nice brew to always have in your fridge when you want something dark, but not overpowering or high ABV.

THanks again @jhartley and I can't wait to crack open a few more of the bounty you sent!
