Can I sneak in? I can???

Due to some family issues I had to resolve last night, I didn't get to post after sharing my mystery brew. Well, now I can, so let's see if I can beat the buzzer! (It's more appropriate here than on WBAYDN?)

I knew this was a beer from the Bruery, and guessing it was going to be something bigger than a Terreux offering, I decided sharing it was the best idea. However, this side of the family is a little redneck, so we went with red solo cups for them, a glass for me, some ukuleles and guitars, and went to town.

Right off the bat, I'm impressed with the head production and retention on what I'm assuming is a strong brew. The hazy golden color really threw me off; I was expecting a dark strong ale or imperial stout.

The nose was boozy, but not an all out assault. Difficult to judge the ABV from the nose. Very grainy, featuring corn, bourbon, vanilla, and even some chocolate.

On the palate, it's super malt-forward and sweet. Corn mash, bourbon, booze, sugar, vanilla, and a coconut finish (from bourbon, not coconuts); perhaps a bit of chocolate thrown in there, as well.

Hot and thick brew, boozy but not unpleasantly so. Again, difficult to gauge the ABV.

I'm thinking English Barleywine or even Wheat Wine.

    Wow!

First off, that's one hell of a mystery beer, @JBowenGeorgia ! I'm completely shocked.

Second, and I know it's a boast, but I'm pretty darn pleased at my impressions. My wife was blown away by what I got completely blind, including the chocolate and vanilla. And Wheat Wine isn't a style I would normally guess, having had all of two of them before, which is the only reason I listed EBW ahead of it.

The pale color of this brew really challenges your perceptions. It's a great choice for a blind test, really throwing you off. I'm pretty happy with the results - and with the beer!

I rated it 4.25 / 4.0 / 4.0 / 4.5. I didn't get the chance to crunch the numbers or give an overall yet, and I'll be adding the review to the database later, so no link or +/-rDev at the moment.

Cheers NBSers. Thank you all for a wonderful BIF, and a super cool idea with the blind mystery beer. And thanks again JB for an incredible series of boxes! (There's still one mystery beer to go, which I think I may review tonight once I get home.)
