I wished I'd have waited a little longer on my beer, I could've ripped this off and used it in my post

With my wife away at Fermentation Fest this weekend and a week before college fall break it's me and beer holding down the fort. My trip to the cellar revealed that 2015 was a big buying year for me. I was not surprised that I had this one.
A couple of months after the best by date but at 11% did not expect that to have much of an impact.

The caged cork was warranted as it popped with little urging and with such intensity that it would have shamed a champagne. I expected a gush of foam that thankfully did not materialize. Very dark brown with no highlights. The larger bubbles in the head collapsed quickly leaving the finer ones to create a creamy film but with no lacing. - 4

Nice balance between the cherry and the roasted malt and chocolate - 4.25

Fueled by the heat provided by the alcohol, tart and sour bickered while roast cowered in the corner. Their argument intensified as the beer warmed with tart finally outlasting sour. - 3.75

The feel had a thinness and coarseness that the creamy foam ring and opacity did not suggest but the warming quality of the alcohol provided a coziness that belonged. - 3.75

Not an everyday choice (not that it can be based on the one-time run) but interesting. Wish this was a 4-pack format to see if it soured more as it aged. - 4

Dale, not it isn't. This beer was a gift.

I think I have read in BA that Urban Chestnut is available in NJ. Maybe Michael (@TongoRad) or some other NBS BA can confirm this.

    Cheers!

A-A wonderful purple haze (while I kiss the sky)! A slight head, but no lacing.
S-Slight hints of blueberry, vanilla and citrus.
T-Slight tartyness with hints of blueberry, vanilla and a nice citrus balance.
M-Tartness with blueberry and citrus accents, light, refreshing and well carbonated.
O-Overall a very nice blueberry variation gose, well balanced with a nice subtle character.

Good morning, everyone. So excited for the NBS BIF reveal day. I ended up with more family obligations than I expected today, so I'm gonna jump right into the Mystery Can from the generous @2beerdogs. Hoping it's a coffee stout.

    Let's go...

Used a big mug so the appearance wouldn't give me too many hints, but I could see when I poured it that it's cola colored with a big, airy, tan head.

Huge aroma of ginger. Maybe some nutmeg, spruce, cloves, all spice. Smells like an intensely-spiced winter warmer. Uh oh. Is this gonna be a pumpkin beer? (Not my favorite style.)

The taste is light smooth malt with another huge blast of ginger and spices. They almost burn the back of the throat. My wife says apple and cinnamon, but I don't think so. There's a very slight hop bitterness on the backend, but otherwise it's lightly sweet, with an almost Christmas cake malt thing going in aftertaste with lingering spices.

Light to medium bodied with good carbonation.

Well, I haven't had enough pumpkin ales to identify that. If it is, I'm gonna be embarrassed because I sort of like it. I'm gonna guess that or a gingerbread-inspired winter warmer. Let's see...

It's a Golden Road, Made in LA, Back Home Gingerbread Stout. I wasn't too far off!

Thank you, Derek, for this one and all the other amazing options I have to choose from today. Hope to sneak another one in this afternoon. Otherwise, I'll see you again tonight. Cheers!

Pours light hazy, golden Orange. Foamy, short, white head that fades fast with light lacing.

smells Citrus, tropical, orange and lemon.

Taste orange, citrus peel, tropical, hints of grassiness, grapefruit and a touch of malt. Finish is dry with citrus peel anger. Medium body and smooth medium carbonation.

Thanks to @cjgiant for the great kickoff. My new beer this week is Kinder Yoga from Oedipus Brewing in Amsterdam. Nice little find at a local shop in Germany this past week.

Poured from fridge temp. Really good carbonation with lots of head on an aggressive pour. Color is jet black. Nose is really nice - reminds me of some of the best Russian Imperial Stouts out there. Big licorice, smoky wood, a bit of tobacco, coffee grounds, and a hint of big, bold dark fruit. After a bit of warming, I am getting some leather and a bit of raisin. Taste is really good. Sweet upfront, with a heavy licorice right after the sweetness. Definitely a bitter sting to the flavor on the back end. Lots of coffee grounds, tobacco, and a syrupy bitterness. Aftertaste is mostly bitter. Alcohol is really well hidden. Overall, this is a really fantastic beer that I was lucky to find in a little shop in Germany. Definitely rivals some of the American classics, such as Stone RIS and Old Rasputin. Mouthfeel is thick and creamy.

Happy New New England Pounder CANned Beer NFL-less Sunday (Week 659)!

I liked your postulation of the Q of meeting other BAs IRL. From June 2006 to August 2008, as a high school English teacher with my summers off, I set out to explore the country mainly via Amtrak, but with some Greyhound & air travel smattered in there. It was called the Woody Him Forward (WHF) Tour & got sanctioned on here so that I routinely posted as to my comings & goings & often at least got to meet up & drink with fellow BAs. Many times, I was also offered a place to crash since I was usually only spending a day or two in town. People were anxious to take me to their favorite places & I became like Johnny BeerSeed, taking a few beers from the previous stop to the next stop for sharing. During that time, I was in all 50 states & most of the CANadian provinces. I also did a lot of CouchSurfing.com & those were also great exbeeriences & at one point, in June 2008, I had a chauffeur for a month! I am currently on Lancaster (City & County),PA self-imposed restriction due to a period of underemployment from which I am currently digging myself out. That said, I will be at Friday the Firkenteenth at The Grey Lodge in PHL later this week and at Das Best Oktoberfest in BAL on Saturday, if people want to be infected by my madness, I mean, meet up. You CAN and may also come to Lancaster since I have my evenings & weekends free again.

Enough! Next, the backstory on my selections for this week. Between my Bottle Backlog & now the CANs stacking up, I have gotten off of trading (except for my local in-person partner, tone77) & buy only for my CANsumption. However, I am also friends with and a member of many groups of people on various social media sites. Someone was recently raffling off part of a recent haul of theirs with the winner to simply bear the cost of shipping. I threw in my hat on a lark & won!

I begin the day with baby steps, leading up to a later crescendo:

Rainy and grey, but warm and balmy here on LI...

Got my Halloween decor out yesterday...

    Getting philosophical today...
    With (bourbon) Barrel-Aged Three Philosophers...
Cage and cork, the first riddle to solve... The cork from my Ginnepin on Thursday (<-- link to post w/ review) flew off and remains somewhere behind the bookcase...

This cork wrestled harmlessly from the bottle, inert now, cast to the side...
My philosophy on the pour is, go big or go home...

    So that happened...
Dark ruby brown in the glass - looks close to black in this lighting... Pour produced aromas of dark boozy fruits and wet wood barrels with hints of vanilla and cherry...
I've done Three Philosophers (a 98% quadrupel ale, 2% ale with cherries added) a few times in the past, but not recently, and while it rarely calls to me, I've always found it rewarding... The fruits here are more subdued, the body thinned somewhat from the barrel-aging, with tannic notes accompanying some of the tart cherry hints... Warming, the beer develops nicely, dark fruits and toffees more assertive, vanilla in the distant background, subtle spiced notes tingle and pop with the carbonation... Medium-weight feel and smooth, mild bitterness; mildly sweet, too; leaves a little shellac on the tongue, with a trace of drying on the finish... Elegant... Part of their $40 Rare Beer gift box, it came with the glass I'm using... I'd recommend the beer and the box...

    Cheers...

Happy Sunday, NBS crew! Trying another new-to-me Veil that @vabeerguy spoke very highly of a few weeks back.
The Veil - Too Far Outta Sight
    DIPA - 8.5% abv
    Canned 9/19/17 (19 days ago)
    Score: 4.27 (-2.1% rDev)

L - 3-finger pillowy white head atop a murky orange-brown body. Head fully recedes in about 2 minutes, leaving behind a lot of sticky lacing.

S - tropical fruits, grapefruit, oranges. This beer smells absolutely wonderful!

T - lots of grapefruit and orange hops up front. There is some alcohol harshness in the middle but it doesn't linger. High bitterness at the end, along with a dirt taste that I get from a lot of Veil's DIPAs.

F - medium body, low carb as usual.

O - I enjoy this beer quite a bit. I do wish the taste matched the wonderful nose this thing has. Unlike @vabeerguy, I put Crucial Taunt cubed and We Ded Mon ahead of this one, but it's still damn good.

Now is the day of BIF #6!

Quick post this time. I’m in Nashville with friends and I had them (re:forced) participate with me. Luckily, they are mostly as big of beer enthusiasts as I am.

Opened Trillium/Stillwater collab Trillwater, a hazy gose. It’s a great starter beer for the day. Thanks @smanson56
    [IMG]

750 ml bottle, split 4 ways into tulips. Small fish upon opening bottle. Pours hazy golden yellow, white head. Some lacing.
Doughy, Light funk, lemon sweet tarts on the nose.
Taste is mostly tart, then, sour and sweet. Hay, floral, white bread.
    Effervescent, crisp, dry finish.

    Cheers!

The timing seems to be right on my end, Rich, and it would be a pleasure to meet up again. Last week I was battling a bad head cold, but today I'm finally feeling up to being able to enjoy a beer or two again. Your 'mystery beer' from the BIF is first on the docket for later. See you then!
