Yeah, that one is solid. Funny thing is some people consider it "lite." They can't help but compare it to Black Tuesday, which is a beast. S.H.I.T. is definitely respectable.

Good evening, all. Thanks for the great intro, @cjgiant. I definitely buy beers specifically for NBS and will hold off on drinking them until Sunday so I can share it here. Today’s is no exception- Bell’s Christmas Ale. I’ve passed on this one in the past for whatever reason but I’m glad I finally decided to grab some this year. I think a relatively newfound fondness for Scotch Ales had something to do with that decision. I really enjoyed drinking this and I’m glad I have 5 more-

    Here’s my review-

    4.08/5 rDev +14%
    look: 4.25 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4

Look- Dark, dark brown; fluffy 2 finger tan head; leaves some spotty lacing

Aroma- fairly weak nose on this, but i do get a little dark bread and toffee. As it warms I'm getting a little nuttiness as well

Taste- really explodes with vanilla, toffee, rich breadiness, brown sugar and just a hint of bitterness at the end

Feel- medium bodied and creamy texture

Overall- Great Scotch Ale with a weak aroma being it's only shortcoming. However, the flavor more than makes up for it making this an excellent sipper perfect for colder weather.

Side note- This beer is listed as 5.4% alcohol, but my bottle says 7.5%.

I will need to catch up on this thread, but snuck in a late one, Evil Twin Even More Coco Jesus, 12% ABV much to love here; 4.22 overall

Pours an effervescent ebony with 2 fingers of caramel colored head. Above average lacing & head retention

S: Slight boozeyness, carob, faint coconut

T: Dryness, a little maple syrup, boozeyness & coconut too up front. Maple syrup dryness, boozeyness & coconut as this warms. Finishes dry with toasted coconut, & little maple syrup & boozeyness

MF: Medium body, firm carbonation, warming

A very tasy/interesting take on the style, pricy but not over-priced, love the flavor imparted in this beer

I keep looking at that bottle (record from @FlintB ) in our NBS BIF. I think I'm waiting for my brother to roll in to town. But after reading your description...I'm chomping at the bit.

    Terrapin White Chocolate Moo-Hoo
Pours black with a good tan head that faded pretty quickly.
Smells chocolaty, roasted malts, some light coffee hints.
Taste follows, chocolate is the sweet milk variety, not the dark bitter. Muted roasted malt and coffee taste.
Medium bodied with a good carb level.
    Overall a decent milk stout.

I noticed the ABV bump from the listing on Bell's site, but in addition, the beer in your pic appears darker than I remember that beer being previously. Maybe it's my imagination or the lighting... or maybe this beer has changed quite a bit.

The beer is quite dark (pretty close to black), so I don't think it's the lighting. If anything, it actually looks less dark in the photo than it does in reality.

    Well Hello Late Night NBS
Thanks to @cjgiant for the start here. As for the topic at hand, I for one spend more time on NBS than any other part of BA. I look forward to it each and every week. I even pop in to read, and occasionally comment, even if I'm not partaking.
And for tonight's consideration... Flightless from Transient courtesy of our very own @FlintB

Pours a bit hazy. Burnt orange in color.
Uh oh. I'm picking up Nelson on the nose. I'm usually not a fan of Nelson when it's the dominant player.
Yep, Nelson forward is what I'm guessing. A bit dirty and tropical. Slightly cat pissy on the back end. I know some are into that, but not me.
Mouthfeel is medium with a creamy finish.

Don't get me wrong, Brian. I still appreciate trying a new beer.

Good evening, all, and Happy New Gruit Sunday! Koyt Gruitbier, from Jopen (Haarlem, NL), just started showing up in the stores here last week. The guy at the bottle shop told me they had something new, so I decided to pick one up based on his recommendation. The description on the bottle sounded interesting: "Jopen Koyt is a reddish brown topfermented Gruit beer, brewed according to the original city recipe from 1407. In this 'brouwerskeur,' it is specified that the beer must be brewed with barley, wheat and oats." From the brewer's web site:
But enough history. What about the beer? Hazy reddish-brown, almost woody appearance, big aromas and flavors of caramel and dark fruit, with lots of herbal spiciness, very little alcohol warmth despite the 8.5% ABV, silky mouthfeel from the oats in the grain bill, and a peppery and astringent finish. Paired with chicken strips per the label notes: "Koyt Gruitbier is delightfull with poultry and veal." :stuck_out_tongue: Served in a #proper thrift-store mug that just seemed to be calling my name.

How did we get this a month before the bottle date? My theory is that it was due to the same rupture in the space-time continuum that allowed that high-school team to show up in Kinnick Stadium on Saturday.

Looks like fall has finally settled in here in NJ. It is getting chilly its rainy and genuinely feels like November.
I actually tried a couple of new ones earlier but I didn't write a proper review. This one I did

    Carton Sundae
It is Cosmonaut aged for a year in a cognac barrel with walnuts and maraschino cherries

    look: 4.75 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4.75 | feel: 4.75 | overall: 4.75

A: Pours a deep thick black with a slight mahogany head. Dissipates to a thin ring around the glass. Lacing on all sides
    S: Cognac, leather, anise, chocolate
T: up front is the cognac. At first it seems overbearing but soon melds with other flavors.
The walnuts and the sweetness taste like we're walnuts on a sundae. There is chocolate and berry. There are hints of licorice and Marshmallow
MF:thick and almost syrupy but in a good way. No noticeable alcohol burn.
O: This beer is a ice-cream sundae beer with a pour of cognac. There is a decadence to this beer that is simply wonderful.

Well, guys and gals, another Sunday has closed. Feel free to enjoy some new beers this week and please consider leaving an official review for us all. Also consider saving at least one for next Sunday, because, even though it was never in danger otherwise, that’s when we’ll resume this whole thing. Plus it’s been documented that many of us would enjoy it if you participated (again).

P.S. be thinking about three weeks from now, a one-time event almost 13 years in the making.
