This is my new beer for Sunday! Whole Lotta Ruckus by Revision Brewing. Canning date was 2/15/18.

Look: goldenrod in color, moderate opaqueness to the beer. As evident in the image, pours a night frothy head, that retains for about 5 minutes. As it settles, lacing costs the edge of the glass.

Smell: as soon as I stated to pour, the aroma became evident. Huge amounts of the typical citrus fruits- orange, lemon, grapefruit with hints of pineapple. Fantastic smell. Has a nice piney scent as well, along with subtle hop aroma.

Taste: follows the nose. Citrus fruits up front, but with a piney finish with some hops (not too hop forward, but enough to be detected). No hint of booze whatsoever, but as expected for 8% AbV.

Feel: medium body and weight to it. Coats the tongue evenly, with no astringent taste. Moderate to low carbonation levels. Great mouthfeel.

Overall: this beer is at the top of my list for Revision offerings. It has the taste and feel that I look for/want in a NEIPA, and overall is a damn fine beer. I highly recommend picking it up if you see it. Cheers!

Now I have to confess, I had this last night with Indian food. But my palate was blown by the peppers and I was unable to post due to lack of Internet so this is my initial review:

    4.18/5 rDev -1.4%
    look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.25

Canned 1/15/2018. Poured into Spiegelau IPA glass. It pours a pretty reddish-orange color with a large, pillowy, ecru-colored head and thick, fluffy lacing. It has a fruity nose featuring melon, light tangerine, a whiff of onion, and light floral hops. The taste opens with a sweet malt, oats, lemon peel, and just a hint of tropical fruit, followed by a bitter dose of Chinook and Ekuanot hops. It has a nice balance of fruit, grain, and hops. The feel is surprisingly creamy, with moderate carbonation, and an easy-drinking 6.1% ABV. Overall, this is a well-crafted Red IPA. It's not quite at the level of Celebration or Pataskala but I haven't had a better Jersey-brewed Red Ale.

Lone Eagle is really improving of late. I'll now try their stuff whether or not it's been reviewed. Cheers, NBS!

Good evening NBS, hope everyone is enjoying the end of the weekend once again. Thanks to @lordofthewiens for getting us started off this week. Another normal weekend with nice weather for a change. Made a beer run yesterday to restock on the new beers. After 6400 last week I was almost all out. Just finished up the laundry for the week and did my bottle returns earlier as usual. Hopefully this week will not be too busy.

    New Beers:

Very nice APA. Fantastic lasting head retention and thick soapy lacing on the glass. Aromas and flavors of grapefruit, orange, lemon, peach, pear, melon, red apple, citrus peel/zest, and light pepper/pine hops; with moderate white bread dough, light honey/toasted malt balance; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Light pine, zesty, herbal, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation/body; creamy/bready/grainy malts and light sticky hops in the mouthfeel. Fairly clean finishing. Lightly increasing lingering bitter dryness. Very flavorful/refreshing, 5%. Spot on classic tasting APA. Cascade/Liberty hops. Nicely juicy balanced citrus/earthy hop complexity, with a nice bready malt backbone. Really well executed for the style, delicious. 3.91

Very nice and unique stuff. Fantastic lasting head retention and thick soapy lacing on the glass. Flavors of big tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, peach, pear, pineapple, passion fruit, mango, melon, citrus peel/zest, and light pepper/pine hops; with moderate coconut, vanilla, cream, honey, marshmallow, brown sugar, and biscuity malt sweetness; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Similar/muted aromas. Mild pine, zesty, herbal, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; very creamy/silky/bready malt/sugar mouthfeel; with light hop stickiness. Lightly increasing lingering bitter dryness, no cloying sweetness. Very smooth, mildly increasing warmth of 9.5%. Another dessert style DIPA as expected. Very juicy and lightly dank Mosaic hops, with balanced coconut/vanilla/sugar flavors and bready malts. Not too sweet/heavy feeling. Really enjoyable. 3.91
    [IMG]

Outstanding dessert Berliner as usual! Fantastic lasting head retention and soapy lacing for the style. Aromas and flavors of big lightly tart lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, peach, pear, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, berry, citrus peel/zest, hay, straw, and grass; with moderate vanilla, cream, wheat, cracker, white bready malt sweetness; light pepper, lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Mild lactic tartness and zesty/grassy bitterness on the finish. Medium-high carbonation and light-medium body; very creamy/grainy wheat/lactose mouthfeel; with light acidity and hop stickiness. Lightly increasing acidic dryness, no pucker. Insanely refreshing, 4.8%. This tastes like tropical fruit ice cream. Balanced fruity Lacto, juicy citrus/tropical hops, vanilla, lactose, and pale/wheat malts. Stellar. 4.18

This counts for NBS since I haven't had the 2017 yet right?

Don't like it as much as the last few years with the 15 being my favorite recent vintage. Pretty hot on the alcohol...plenty of the usual suspects of flavors with licorice and dark fruit showing up more than I expected.

Tasty as always though. Will crack another in a year or so and see how much of this booziness has mellowed.

    Happy New DIPA Sunday!

A little storm passed thru this morning on the Western Slope and left some snow. At the trailhead the snow was basically only on the trees, very cool looking. Windy, around 35, cloudy, little sun. Having a very tasty brew from @Satchboogie, been wanting to try other's from this brewery for many years. Glad to have a couple others to try this week.

I agree. If they can make the national final, then what difference does their conference make? Also, basketball isn't the only sport. Does the WCC make more sense for baseball, soccer, etc?

Finally having a beer and joining in on the NBS fun! Starting with Tired Hands Place To Be, a pizza IPA. The beer sounds weird but like it could be good. I am finding it drinkable and enjoyable enough. I feel like it is weak with the flavor but actually not bad considering it has tomato paste in it.

My turn with this one thanks to the generous @TongoRad:
    von Trapp Trosten smoked lager
    [IMG]
I've heard plenty about von Trapp but never had one of their beers until now, and wow! If the rest of their beers are this good, they very well may be the best German lager specialists in the U.S.

    The review:
    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/22512/63797/?ba=Premo88#review
    4.37 (+9.3% rDev)

Labelled a schwarzbier here on BA.com, von Trapp's label advertises Trosten as a "smoked lager" and the brewery website calls it a dark lager. I call it the best half schwarz(stout-porter)/half rauchbier I've had in terms of getting the rauch half good and smokey. At first it can taste almost too earthy/bitter, like chewing into a burnt chunk of BBQ wood, although the aroma is so sweet by comparison that you know it's going to open up as it warms and your palate adjusts. And it does. The dark-malt flavors of prunes/dates have some sweetness to them, and one might even say a bit of espresso lingers in there, espresso with some mocha powder for sweetening.

But the best part for my taste buds is that constant punch of smoked-malt flavor that's in each swallow and forever in the lingering aftertaste. It's much sweeter and more "comfortable" (gemütlichkeit, is it?) than Schlenkerla's rauches, but for me it has that same smokey profile you find in the brews from the great German masters of smoke.

Thanks a ton, Michael! I get why you're working on ... what is it by now? Your third case of this beer this season?:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye::rofl: I would be too if it lived in my purview.

@lordofthewiens' dirty sex dream intro got me thinking more about the craziness in our dreams part, not as much the dirty sex part, though both are outstanding topics for barroom chatter. It's amazing how weird and insane my dreams can be, yet they ALWAYS are rooted in something going on in my real world at the time. If if I have a bad day at work, I dream about blowing deadline or showing up late for budget. Or when I'm planning for a vacation, I dream about being on that vacation.

My point: What's been going on in Dick's world lately? Hmmmm ...:thinking_face::thinking_face:

Well, since we got a lot of dueling reviews going today, I figured I'd join @ichorNet with hits one, as it was one of my options for today. Like my fellow NBS poster, I have had Orbital Tilt Citra version, and rated that above the average BA at 4.1. Let's see if the Orbital Tilt, Mosaic lives up to its brother.

Gotta agree with everything here - I might go "fairly well hazed," but I'm not sure I can describe it better.

I might stray a little here, and only because I think I might not be as attuned to some of the scents you noted. I get mostly tropical with a backing dankness. I smelled for earthy raspberry/blackberry and it didn't really come to me. Citrus peel, tropical (but not too sweet tropical), and a little mix of earthy and dank are fairly similar, however.

I ended up not getting as much tropical as I expected, initially. Tropical fruit rind bitterness - mango, that could be similar to grassy for me. Piney, earthy spice, and a bit of leafy greenness in back. I almost think you talked me into the raspberry jam - as I get an ever so slight note of it in the very back - with the leafy note (but I'm not getting passionfruit, personally).

I got a little more prickliness from the carbonation, and as such, it wasn't too soft a beer for me. I agree it was of decent heft for a 5.8% brew and body that almost overcame the carbonation.

I pretty much 100% agree with this. Haven't thrown up my numbers yet, but it'll probably be leaning toward the higher end of 3.75-4. Cheers!!

Good evening, NBSers. On the advice of counsel, I have been advised to state “NO COMMENT” in reference to the opening post in this thread today.

This first beer is part of the haul from the trip Mrs O, Little O, and I made to Transient last week. I’m not drinking two-fisted (not that I’m averse to that), it is just not physically possible to get Transient’s logo and the name of the beer from one can we n a pic.

The pour reveals a bright orange beer with a light tan head that is heavily hazed, but not milkshake hazy. The nose is juicy oranges and something subtly spicy - maybe papaya? Whatever it is, it is on point.

The taste is dominated by the juicy orange flavors, and there’s also more tropical flavors, with mango notable. The mouthfeel is not as biting as a “traditional” APA/IPA, but it is not nearly as “pillowy” as most of its hazy brethren, which is my preference.

Jack's Abby does have a beer that's comparable to this one- Smoke and Dagger- but I much prefer the Trosten in every respect. Too bad it's a seasonal, but then again if it were available year round what else would I buy?

Looks like I I have a lot reviews to catch up on later. No wild tales of lust or debauchary here, sadly...

Sweetwater Dank Tank Ground Score IPA. A hazey IPA checking in at 7.1% ABV, 3.85 overall. Tasty enough

Pours a hazed amber with 3+ fingers of rocky cream colored head. Stays hazy, very nice head retention & even better lacing
    S: Mango, orange peel
T: Follows the nose, bready dryness, &, a touch of pomelo up front. Orange peel & bitter citrus as this warms along with mango & tangerine, plus dryness. Finishes fairly bitter with tangerine, pomelo & dryness, plus a little pink grapefruit
MF: Medium Body with fairly restrained carbonation, pretty good balance
Easy to drink, well worth a try. Had better, but wouldn't say no to another of these

    Happy NBS to all!

This is my first NBS post. I recently was corrupted, and convinced with threat of no more porch bombs being dropped on me to join the NBS BIF. In an effort to protect my ever growing hobby, I complied.

In an effort to be a better contributing member of this society, and avoid being what Louis C.K. called, "A non-contributing product sponge-****," I figured it was about time that I come on here and post. I'm going to try to make this a regular thing. The biggest thing about that, is, I guess I have to make sure I'm drinking 1 new beer a week =). Oh the agony.

Up for today is Bottle Logic - Robots in Disguise. I received this on Thursday.

I'm not a huge IPA guy, although I have recently been enjoying some of the less bitter (and thus typically more juicy and hazy) cousins.

This was good, but not my favorite. It was probably a 5/10 for me in terms of bitter (right at that point of teetering between starting to get too bitter, and could stand to be a bit less bitter). (This comes from someone with a bitter sensitivity.)

The mouthfeel was nice, but not as pillowy as others that I have had in the same style.

The taste was more grapefruit or pineapple (non-ripe) than it was orange. The "juice" quality was subdued, and not at the fore-front. -Almost like it was juicy as a consequence rather than that being the attempt. It was hard to pin-down flavors, as again, it seemed like that was not the forefront of the goal. The hops were subdued, but there. Not particularly pine-y or resin-y. No dankness, or earthy tones.

Not much if anything particularly on the nose.

The look - this is so subjective to me. I have found that the more orange in color they are, the more I enjoy them. The more pale-yellow or pale orange to light tan they are, the less I enjoy them (and the less visually appealing I personally believe they are.

I really only rate based on what it is (within style), and as components of that, nose, flavor, and mouthfeel. I'd give this a 3.85-4.0.

Reissdorf. It was perhaps the first beer I ever had (long, long ago) that made me realize beer didn't have to taste bad. :grinning:

I am admittedly biased toward liking cherries. :grinning: And I love stouts! So this one just really clicked for me.

Much like if my dad and I were going to describe Bud Select 55: we might taste the same flavors, but we're not giving it the same score.
