Sorry to interrupt folks. Just going to drop a little something here. Like that guy at the party who farts in the kitchen and walks away leaving every other person confused...and disgusted.

Hint #6 for NBS #7 BIF I have visited at least one brewery in your home state.

Good luck with that. Flexibility is very underrated, and very necessary. Especially as we age. I feel it every damn day.

[IMG] Smell: Love the hop kick, with a nice resinous/dank burst. Malts are muted at this point, but overall its REALLY good.
Taste: Light on the citrus side, and heavy on the mosaic/malt. The malts were delicious, and carried everything very well.
Feel: Light to medium, with the resinous backbone that could have hindered the flavor, helped to keep it tasting smooth.

My first FB. I took 3-4 drinks from the can, then went against the directions, and drank the rest from a glass. I love the dank aroma.. very inviting. There was a slight harsh overkill on the back end, all the way through this beer that detracted from an otherwise great tasting brew.

    Thanks Jason!

I actually got it completely by luck. The beer buyer for the local shop I buy a fair amount of beer from set that pack aside for me. Truthfully I didn't know anything about it until I got there. Props to him for doing that, otherwise I would have missed out. I know that store didn't get much, and he said what he did get went pretty fast. Hope you're able to find it. I am in Northern CA too, so I don't see why you shouldn't see it.

    Well Hello Late Night NBS.
Things are heating up in March Madness. Holy Cow!!! This is really my only sports vice (yes, in spite of the corruption built into a good chunk of the system). I played high school ball. Was never good enough to go further, although a few of my friends did. But, I do love the build up to the tournament, and am nuts about trying to watch as much as possible. I'm really a BIG 10 leaning guy. I guess it's due to the Hoosier roots on my dad's side of the family. But I've grown to like Michigan State (love Izzo), Wisconsin (loved Coach Ryan, and Gard as well), and even begrudgingly began cheering for OSU (Hey, Thad Mata is an Indiana boy). Never liked Michigan but I do like Beilein so maybe I'm not as committed to being anti-Michigan. Haha
But, after being raised to cheer for Indiana, I have found Purdue to be my favorite. Don't really know why, but they are. And today, with their star big out with a broken elbow, the team rose during a daunting challenge by Butler (another team I love). It was a hard fought game. And Purdue lives to fight one more day. Michigan too, fought hard and prevailed. And the finish, by a freshman, was epic.
And all of this doesn't even account for the 1 versus 16, David versus Goliath, defeat of Virginia by UMBC. This stuff is Shakespearean. Well, maybe. But it is a great time of year for me.
And on top of all this excitement...NBS BIF #7!!!!!

Today I discovered our very own @Buck89 is my sender. WhooHoo. I've been the recipient of his generosity before. Cool dude. So, NBS Here's the take away. March is awesome!

    Today's CANdidate:
Black Market Brewing Co.'s New England Style Double IPA

    3.89/5 rDev -3.2%

    look: 3.75 | smell: 4 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

Poured from a 12 oz can.
Orange to smashed and oxidized peach in color. Kinda pretty. But wow, fluffy white head leaves sticky curtains of lacing.
Smell brings guava upfront, followed by a slightly acidic and sweet pineapple note. Some overripe blood orange comes in as well. Then there's this undercurrent of a cream pop like malty sweetness. Very intriguing.
Taste is more subdued, and the flavors don't solo as much as in the nose. A gentle bitterness is carried by some earthy tropical notes, not juicy, but wait. Then it does kinda come around to a subtle hint of juicy peach, and I swear I pick up a hint of either strawberry or watermelon. Er what? I know, sounds a bit strange. maybe I'm reaching for straws. Slight crackers malt and a smooth & lightly bitter finish.
Mouthfeel is lite to medium. Carbonation is mellow but adds to a slightly fluffy feel.

If I can score a fresh batch, this is going to find its way into some boxes.

    Cheers All.

Enjoyed this second contribution while thoroughly entertained by several of the NCAA tourney games...bye bye Xavier. Moonraker's Boruca Diablo is a healthy 8.5% NE-Style DIPA. Can was a gift, with a date of 02/15/18.

Pours hazy yellow orange with 1 finger of medium density white head. Moderate head retention with mixed ringed and windshield lacing. Nose is nice, but doesn't really pop. Tropical (papaya and grapefruit heavy), then some floral aspects, hints of earthiness and perhaps some subtle guava. Taste follows the nose but with greater contribution from citrus. Juicy, finishing with limited bitterness, moderate astrigency, clears palate quickly. Silkier mouthfeel, so good, but I know they do NE-style recipes that hit the mark better. It's a solid beer, but there's better in their arsenal for my palate and preferences. Overall rating link, BA score = 4.22, rdev = -1.9%

Hi there all you late night NBS'ers. My brother-in-law had the family over for a BBQ, and I took a few of the awesome beers sent to me by @akatz821 in the NBS BIF. One bad thing was the glassware options!

First up we have a crowler of all about the action quad hopped from the Answer:

This thing looks great, but a little less cloudy than your typical hazy IPA. Solid white foam head that lasted pretty good.
The smell was a nice mix of hops and citrus flavors, but was not as strong as I perfer
The taste of this was a very nice mix of hops and citrus notes, I find this one to be sort of a balance between hazy NE style IPA and the more hopped forward beers from the west coast.
This beer has a great feel for my personal taste. Even though I enough the hazy IPA's, my favorite feel is a super dry finish and most hazies just don't deliver in that regard. This one absolutely did.
I really enjoyed this beer and thought it was a good mix of hops and citrus notes.

    LNNBS crew!

Got distracted by my roommate deciding she couldn't sleep and wanted to come downstairs and make nachos, so this is getting posted as even later night NBS even than intended.

After never having tried one before, I've drank a couple of different oyster stouts over the last few weeks and am still honing in on the specifics of what specifically can be attributed to the oystering vs just whatever that particular base stout was like. It's a subtle specialty I suppose. I guess I really just need to do a side by side with a base stout/oyster stout and see if I can pick out the differences.

The choice this evening is a variation on Major Tompkins, an oatmeal stout (the style that got me into beer in the first place) brewed with Hama Hama oysters from the Hood Canal, one of just nine fjords in the United States (and I believe is also the source of oysters for Briny Deep which I tried on NBS a couple of weeks ago)

Oyster Tompkins pours that just-shy-of-truly-black that gets me all excited with a stout with a clean onyx face letting not a shimmer through. Fair size head of rich brown that settles in to just a light fuzz over the top, and laces the sides of the glass wonderfully.

Nose presents dark chocolate, roasty char notes and similar acridity to cold black coffee, but without the coffee part.

the body on this one is just medium, but passing my lips it is smoothe as velvet and just such a pleasure to sip on. Once it crosses that threshhold though the carbonation spills forth from its trojan velvety horse and veritably numbs the tongue momentarily with it's many fine pinpricks before yielding to a suite of flavours that start with some of the same roasty and charred malts as before, black coffee and rich smoothe creamy dark dark chocolate. There's a little sweetness hidden in the rushes there, and maybe a touch of brininess that, together with a subtle almost mineralic/ashy/chalky/earthiness is the best I can estimate the oysters offer. Leans more dry once you get past the velvet and carbonation.
Dangerous how smoothe and easy and enjoyable this is to drink when 10% alcohol is hidden this well.
This is a big winner in my book, and if I find another can this will almost certainly count as a haul hint for NBS BIF #007.

Cannot find a better local beer in South Jersey then this! Filled a growler with it and watched college basketball all weekend (GO Nova!). Great minds think alike.
