Beer #2 from my Jack's Abby 12 pack.

    This is Post Shift Pilsner
    Canned 06 04 18
    4.7% ABV
The beer was a gold color. There was a small white head with a little lace. Lively carbonation.
A fresh, outdoors aroma. Grain, grassy, floral.
For me this translated to a taste of bread and some light peppery spice.
    A nice crisp, refreshing beer.

Most folks think of it as being about individualism and choosing an unconventional or different path when it is more about indecisiveness and regret. The two roads were equally traveled, i.e., indistinguishable from each other. By choosing one over the other you don't get to see what's on the other.

Jack, I'm quite jealous of the availability of sixpoint beers you have. Recently Old Nation distributed M43 and Deep Earth out to Colorado for what seems like a one and done drop. Have you had any experiences with that brewery? I've had some of Colorados premier hazy brews, and Deep Earth really blew me away.

Jason, I must confess that today's Sixpoint beer is via: "I know a guy".

The short answer to your question about Old Nation is: No, I have no experience with this brewery. The longer answer is to the best of my knowledge Old Nation had never made a drop in Pennsylvania and in the context of Old Nation I unfortunately do not "know a guy".

I am glad to hear that you had good luck in obtaining some Old Nation beers. If I am ever back in Michigan I will most definitely seek them out.

    Cheers!

Happy Sunday, NBS crew! I’m thankful to not have to move this year. First year in a while that I’ve stayed put in one place. I really enjoy the spot I’m currently in, just north of Center City Philly, in large part becomes of the attached deck. I’ve never had any outside space before, so the freedom of drinking outdoors is new to me, and will be hard to ever give up now that I’ve experienced it.

Today’s first new beer comes from @larryi86 ’s Vermont trip. Probably going to kill the last few you gave me today Larry!

    The Shining - Foam
    DIPA - 8% abv
    Canned 6/21/18 (17 days ago)
    Score: 4.17 (-4.1% rDev)
L - 1/2 finger grayish-white head recedes almost instantly, leaving behind an opaque, dirty yellow body.

S - pine, orange, herb, pineapple, papaya.

T - super pineapple-heavy. Still getting papaya in the taste as well, along with grapefruit and orange. Just a hint of alcohol. Pine follows, along with a very earthy/dirty middle. Moderate bitterness. No sweetness. Low booziness.

F - slightly heftier than medium body with minimal carb.

    O - love the pineapple nose/taste.

I have read that poem since I was a little kid, so it is a favorite of mine.

    Definitely an interesting perspective.

Just curious, how does the ending fit in with that interpretation? ("...And that has made all the difference")

Hmm. Interesting. I could see that. Personally I don't subscribe to there being an interpretation that is more or less accurate, since I don't think he's talking about literal roads. I guess it comes down to how you interpret "it has made all the difference" as @VABA pointed out while I typed this. Also, though they were similar, the less-traveled road is described as "wanting wear" and he is able to discern that it is less traveled. I dig getting to see it from another angle though and have to say you have definitely tweaked the way I see it. Lazy graduation speakers must drive you nuts hahaha.

Don't really have the space here to go that far off topic, but you can find a really interesting discussion in this book.

Back in Germany and cracking this one. I have been excited to try it for a while. Bourbon barrel aged T.O.R.I.S. from Hoppin' Frog.

Poured from fridge temp into a snifter. Pours a rich motor oil black with almost no sign of head. Nose is powerful, like the alcohol content (13.8%). Lots of rich dark chocolate, coffee, vanilla, oats, nuts, black licorice, and some nice roasted malts. Not a ton of dark fruit, but perhaps a bit of cherry in there. Definitely a hint of soy sauce. Nose is spot on for an awesome BA stout. Taste is on the next level. Huge roasted malts/charred wood up front. Slight bitterness with the burnt coffee. Tastes like one of my beyond French roast batches - way past second crack. Also getting some caramel, dark chocolate, and black licorice. The flavor is immense and deep. The complexity is wonderful, not off putting. Mouthfeel is thick and creamy. Overall, a spectacular BA stout.

    look: 4.25 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4.5

Checking out Knee Deep's RU-Deep-2 DIPA...
Medium gold and clear (a clear beer!) with 2-3 fingers of off-white foam on top... I'm not sure of the canning date, since there is none on the can, but if this is a one-off item brewed back in the winter, man, has it done well with time! A classic pine resin and grapefruit pith DIPA, medium-full-bodied and smooth... Nice airy pine with a little chewy, resinous, slightly dank underbelly, and dry pithy grapefruit kicking up some fruit, citrus and zest; solid bitterness leaves a moderate tongue-gripping shellac... Sweetness is also moderate, suggestive of caramel resin-coated citrus and orchard fruits, but that taut, lean bitterness takes the fore and creates a real nice call for more of the same... Impressed with everything except the lack of a canning date...

    Cheers...

My wife and I are pretty sure we're going to live in our current house the rest of our lives. That being said no kids yet and you never know what life will bring. I'm looking forward to seeing Roger Daltrey and the Cleveland Orchestra perform Tommy tonight but I've got an afternoon and two new beers rounding out what @strohme2 sent my way to share with you first!

Today a comparison of rye beers from Fonta Flora. One a pale ale and the other a collaboration lager.

Recognizing the differences of brewing an ale vs a lager I think lagers are underbrewed and largely underappreciated. Sure they make up a majority of beer that's consumed in this country but I don't see them often on this site.
    Pinnacle of Dreams
This one starts with a head that lingers which is something I always enjoy seeing in a beer. I need to find out who buys their malts from Riverbend because these smell and taste great, perfect for a lager. A mix of malts/rye/carmel aromas/flavors, I love the light, dry, smooth body. Looking a Burial's website it looks like a majority of their collaborations are lagers so kudos to them!

    Hulihe'e
Completely different beer here, the brewer and rye are the only two things these have in common. Quite a large head that took a minute to settle. I love the nose, a nice mix of rye, grapefruit, orange pith and a bit of grass/herbs/earth. Taking a sip the earth/herbs come through up front, with rye on the midpalate then some citrus & a bit of tropical fruit towards the end. Medium-bodied, a little bite from the rye but also a little sour. Overall I enjoy the way the rye & hops compliment each other.

    Cheers!

    Brooklyn bel air sour
    ..cloudy orange gold color
..body. is a bit thin with average carbonation
..Aroma is this sour funk followed by citrus and lemon peel
..Taste follows nose, very dank/funk taste that's also sour and dry
...I believe it was well made but for me the sour and funk was just too much and I didn't enjoy it too much[IMG]

Good luck with the move! Being in Academics, we have moved more times that I would have liked (OH, MA, SC, CA and now Germany for a year)! A new beer is always a great antidote to the stress of moving!
