White Gold Tarantula a 8'4% ABV DIPA from Twin Elephant. IMO not a name that makes one want to try a beer. I ordered a pint anyway. This is a plain jane DIPA only malt. hops. H2O and yeast are used. The hops used are Azacca, Denali. Enigma and Vic Secret. This beer was meant to be on the sweet side and it is. It's a bit too sweet for me but other drinkers liked it a lot.

Howdy NBS and thanks Craig for this cool start.

A couple sentence about my fairly eventless life for the most part. I'm a man of routine, and quite happy about it.

I haven't posted in this thread in months. Been slightly busy, and focusing on real life activities, hobbies, passions and hanging out with some peeps.

So, no dramas, no major issues in my life these days and it's all good to me. Peace and quite FTW.

Okay enough of that, the beer in my (Founders) glass this evening is... Azacca, the American IPA from Founders.

    [IMG]upload photos

A 12oz bottle that I poured in order to get a 2inch head.

Look is copper orange, good retention and nice lacing.

Smells grapefruit, mango and peach. Quite a bit of citrus on the nose.

Taste, hints of tangerine and orange hidden in the grapefruit strong flavor.

Feel, light carbonation, fairly quaffable. I only have one for the evening so I will instead sip on it for a bit.

Overall: I was excited before even buying it, I mean it's Founders. And this lives up to the hype - at least that of the brewery.

    Cheers.

New Am. Wild Ale Sunday (Week 701)
Greetings to all my fellow NBSers from on the ridge in Mid Hud Val, NY. Beauty day here, and one I plan to enjoy outside in a little while. It started a bit on the queasy side I must say, a continuation of an explosive condition that yesterday, as delicately as I can put it, caused me to be thankful that I carry TP with me when out picking shrooms in the deep woods. As luck would have it I found zero chanterelles, but a bag of boletes accompanied me home, and it has been a hard time identifying these guys without a microscope, or KOH, on hand. I am one of those 50% of folks not capable of identifying the bitter chemical that causes stomach distress in Tylopilus felleus ( king bolete lookalike) with a nibble and spit, so pretty sure I have some Boletus edulis, and others, but it's a devil of a time nailing what exactly. Never saw such a huge flush of interesting boletes in my life, and if my recovery continues I will be out in the same area later today to gather more. Def. feeling well enough for this beer right now.

Just a bit about this brewery, Brewery at Bacchus. Bacchus is a New Paltz institution that goes back almost as far as do I in this area. It is also where my second ex-wife was working when I met her, which I don't hold against them lol. It was already a beer bar back then for sure, but not a brewpub. They gained local recognition when Jason and Mike started making world class beers on a tiny system some years back. They both left 2+ years ago to open Hudson Valley Brewery, and it is great to see them now doing so well. It is also great to see that Bacchus has a new brewer who also knows his shit, and who was trained by J and M at HVB, so no surprise he brews in their style. Had a chance to try a different wild ale, a berliner weisse, and NEIIPA on a recent visit, all delicious. Today I am happy to be drinking Mahmood, a wild ale very much in line with Bacchus quality and tradition.

An almost clear white gold pour is topped briefly by a finger of white foam that leaves a bare cap and visible carbonation bubbles, and no lace on glass.

Overripe fruit funk, doughy sweet, and yeasty tart lead the med. full aroma parade. Some righteous undernotes of lemon, oak flavor, and even lighter spicy notes make for a delectable bouquet.

Mmm it a perfectly balanced blend of above flavors, with a rising tide of tart to end the sip. As it warms some earthy notes accompany the light spice and make the end of sip dry and wonderful.

Beautifully viscous for a lingering treat on the palate, yet bright flavored and refreshing. Low carb. just seals the deal, allowing the flavors to shine.

Wonderful beer that I recommend highly despite this being the last bottle for sale.

Hope you also have a Great American Beer in your glass. Cheers!

Hey, if you guys are talking about Iceland, I'm chiming in with bonus trivia!

Did you know that Iceland (home to Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson) still uses a patronymic (or matronymic) naming system - meaning a person's last name does not indicate family lineage, but rather the first name of the mother or father?

So, for example, Hafþór's last name simply means his father's name was Björn. "Björn's son." Or, Icelandic female weightlifter/crossfit athlete, Sara Sigmundsdóttir, has a last name that means she is Sigmund's daughter.

    And whatta beautiful country!

Now it's Four Quarter's turn with their Gose with Pineapple, Jalapenos, and Sea Salt.

Moderate pour yields a 1/2 inch slightly off white head over a pineapple yellow body with scant lacing. Straight up Gose on the nose. Taste is where this shines, with the perfect conjunction of flavors from its ingredients: pineapple, jalapenos, and sea salt. Pineapple first, then the spice comes along, and then a slight salty finish. Nice feel and overall, this would pair famously with my Friday night salmon feast or even oysters on the half shell. Cheers to the guys from Winooski, VT!

New beer #3. The 3rd of 3 new @Sixpoint beers I picked up last weekend.

Spritzer Bomb: White - Sixpoint feat. Sloop
NEIPA w/ white grape juice - 7.7% abv
    Canned 7/19/18 (10 days ago)
    Purchased for $18/6 at Sixpoint
    Score: 4.06 (0% rDev - 1st review)

L - 1/2 finger creamy white head atop an opaque yellow body.

S - orange, white wine, funk, pineapple, pine.

T - orange and white wine with tons of funk. Slightly tart. A bit of cheese and dirt. Low bitterness. Low sweetness. Low booziness.

F - medium body with appropriate carb.

O - the most funk I’ve ever experienced in a Sixpoint beer. Tastes barrel-aged although I’m pretty sure it’s not. More a sipper than a guzzler, but I’m quite enjoying the complexity of flavor.

I like that beer, but the “German Style” is a stretch. Also, did they get rid of the cool Day of the Dead like art work on the can?

I’ve got a long history with that beer. Partly because Founders is one of the cheapest beers you can buy in this area ($20 for a 15 pack). Currently working my way through a 15-er of Mosaic Promise, but I like your Azacca more.

As I kick back into my semi-regular Sunday routine, beer and The Thomas Jefferson Hour (followed by hours of music from my vast vinyl and digital collection), I'm starting off with a decent west coast IPA with an admirable mission - F* CANCER...

The beer has a wonderful golden hue and maintains a lasting, frothy head, leaving plenty of lacing and rings along the inside of the glass. Lots of esters exude from the beer. I get a lot of light citrus and some berry-like notes. The taste is very hop forward. Hop bitterness dominates things over subdued light cereal grain base. The body isn't too heavy and gently tickles the palate with a prickly carbonation. This beer warranted an overal 3.94 score on my BA review. The beer was from my last Tavour shipment.

Next up is Bend Radius from Electric Brewing, this is listed a s a NEIPA but does not really drink like other NEIPAs I have had and has a little more malt and bitterness than I expect from a NEIPA.
Overall a solid beer, I like the balance of bitter and juicy tastes and the slightly creamy feel and the light vanilla is nice.

Appearance 4.25 - Pours hazy light orange color with thick white head that settles to a thick ring with spotty lacing all around the glass.

Aroma 4 - Light pineapple, mango, vanilla very mild hint of malt. there is also a decent bit of bitter orange peel and grapefruit.

Taste 4.25 - Nicely balanced tropical IPA with a good amount of malt coming through. Pineapple, orange peel, and grapefruit. Light vanilla coming through right up front.

Feel 4 - Medium bodied, slightly creamy feel nice bitter dry finish.

Overall 4.17 - Solid IPA, they list it as a NEIPA but everyone wants to these days. Nice flavors really balanced.

L - 2-finger stubborn bright white head atop an opaque yellow body.

S - sweet candy, cabbage, melon, orange, herb, soil.

T - cabbage with the surrounding soil not washed off. Very intense, savory vegetal taste. Also getting potato, spinach, lettuce. Citrus way in the background. Moderate bitterness. No sweetness. No booziness.

F - medium body with average carb.

O - if you dig vegetal ipas, this is your dream beer. I can appreciate it for novelty’s sake, but not something I’d want to drink often.

Pours a deep golden, light amber coloration with a large, creamy head. Nose is a nice mix of citrus hops and subtle estery yeast aromas of banana and clove.

Taste follows the nose, but isn't quite as nice. There are hints of those citrus and ester notes, but they are somewhat subdued and not as rich. Some light, doughy malt is also present, lending a light sweetness to this. The banana actually somewhat dominates here, with lighter notes of citrus peel and clove.

Finishes with an uncharacteristic, dry, medium bitterness and some banana esters lingering in the aftertaste. Soft mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation. While there is a decent balance of american hops and bavarian yeast here, both fail to leave a distict impression, rendering this really neither-here-nor-there to me, to be honest. Also, the relatively strong, dry bitterness is totally out of character for the style.

Last but not least, being German, a Hefeweizen in a 12oz bottle just seems very wrong to me. I can't think of any reason why I would wanna drink this over a regular Weihenstephaner Hefeweißbier. Mouthfeel is very soft and full, almost creamy though. Very nice.

Happy 1000th Tick New Beer Sunday

This is my 1000th new beer on BA. I wasn't sure exactly what to do for it. I've got a few big beers hiding out in the cellar, but I decided I wanted something memorable. So I present:

    Mickey's
    Premium Malt Liquor
    40 oz green bottle

Poured into a beautiful gold rimmed glass from @WesMantooth in Ohio. I'm probably not going to make it through the whole thing.

    [IMG]post images

The beer pours a very clear, light yellowish/tan color with minimal head and almost no lacing.

The smell reminds me a slightly fresher version of the dead Bud Light cans I had to throw away from golf carts when I worked at a golf course as a kid. I'm also getting some corn and maybe a little lemon.

The taste is also very corn heavy with a hint of breadiness and brightness before quickly dying to a sweet, bland finish. The flavor goes away very quickly.

The mouthfeel is highly carbonated and slightly sticky.

Overall the flavor isn't bad but the finish is terrible. It's drinkable but not for 40oz.
