I had this on tap yesterday and it was crazy good stuff. Hoping to hit OH later this month. Also gonna hit up Interboro, the new Grimm place, and possibly six point since seeing you drink there.

New beer #2. @larryi86 is also drinking this now, so stay tuned for a better review.

Bananas Foster Double Milkshake - Tired Hands
    IPA - 9.2% abv
Purchased for $26/4 at Tired Hands
    Canned 7/27/18 (9 days ago)
    Score: 4.37 (-0.9% rDev)

L - 2-finger fizzy head is gone in under a minute. Body is an opaque brownish yellow.

S - bananas, brown sugar, lactose, oranges.

T - slightly unripened bananas with a lovely hop burn kicker. Marshmallow, graham cracker, melon, orange, mixed candies. Incredibly smooth throughout the sip. Low bitterness, moderate-low sweetness, no booziness.

    F - medium-full body with average carb.

O - still a bit green, but its better for it. The hop burn counters the usual milkshake sweetness and balances each sip. This is my favorite milkshake in recent memory. Track down a can if you, uh, can.

I really dig Sixpoint’s location. It’s too bad they’re only open 2 days a month. They won’t be open on my August trip up to Brooklyn, alas.

Good afternoon NBS!!! I’m starting my Sunday with a can Tired Hands Bananas Foster Double Milkshake IPA. I have enjoyed Double Milkshakes in the past, but have always said they tend of be really sweet from whatever fruit they are using and really don’t taste like a DIPA, but thankfully this one is green and has plenty of hops to it!

16 oz can, dated 7/27/18, poured into a teku

A- A hazy golden straw color with a two finger white head.

S- Green hops, citrus and tropical fruits, some bananas, caramel, some brown sugar, touch of sweet rum, vanilla.

T- Still getting lots of hops, but not as green as the nose. Citrus, some tropical fruits/melons, some bananas, some caramel, vanilla, slightly dank finish.

    M- Smooth, creamy, medium body.

O- This is a DIPA, unlike a lot of the other Double Milkshakes I’ve tried. Bananas are noticeable but not as pronounced as the banana character you get from a great Hefeweizen. Extremely drinkable.

I've criss crossed the country to a certain extent... mostly the west, at one point making voyages from Lubbock, TX to LA every couple of months (and back), though I've done north-south on the west coast a number of times (Seattle and either SF or LA), Seattle-Canyonlands and back, St. Louis to DC and back, and a couple of others, not to mention what the family did when I was younger... I don't particularly like driving itself, but I do love a good roadtrip. I would love to do one up through Canada as well at some point.

My beer selection for today is one I've been hanging on to for a little bit, and looking forward to for much longer than that. @FlintB and his Michigan kindness have been well documented in these ledgers, and this is another offering from his NBSBIF#007 madness (I've almost worked my way through the entirety of his gifts!). There was an article published a couple of months ago that I'm sure many people have already seen wherein the owner of Greenbush Brewing talks a little bit about mental health as well as addiction issues within the craft brewing community. I wish that the article had gone more in depth on the issues, but I do think it's an important topic that is not addressed nearly enough, and I'm glad that he at least engages with the issue and asks people to take it seriously. Almost kind of reminds me of Brandon Marshall's publicized advocacy for mental health throughout his career, though in a fairly superficial way. Also because the latter is trying to make the roster for the football team I root for, so his name is on my mind already. Anyway, good on them for tackling such a difficult subject and approaching it with a sobriety and earnestness that is not always observed.

Delusion, from Greenbush is the beer of the day for me.
The beer pours that almost-black of 'black' coffee, but rich, dense and committed. I didn't think I was that vigorous with the pour, though I admittedly did not take it particularly gently either. This yielded a massive head that I was worried would overflow my HHC crystal. Just kept it contained. This billowy cardboard coloured head seemed content to stick around for some time, leaving textured mementos along the walls of the glass as it languidly receded, never fully yielding the real estate atop the liquid to which was my destination.

Nose started with soft cocoa powder and a woody/nutty character that seemed a meeting of nut shells with the wood of the barrel and...
This was closely followed with sweet vanilla and cream, like a jar of non-dairy creamer that you'd find on a diner table. But imagine the artisinal version of that (hipster keyboard: intact). Pushing further on I find some spice... not just the rye spice I anticipated, but also some baking spices hinting at the edges: cinnamon for sure, maybe nutmeg, elements of mace. You'll notice (or not) that I've used a decent amount of powdered descriptors here. That is an impression that lingers.

The roasted woody/nutty nut shell character mentioned above is the first to present itself to my tongue, with sweet offspring spilling forth beyond that. Cocoa and powdered milk again present themselves and curtsy on to present the following and contrary act presented by the barrel. Spice and alcohol heat come in adjoined with one another, gathered up and carried atop an active plinth of sharp carbonation which serves to accentuate and focus the sharp peak of the barrels booze.
The finish slides back down a liquid chocolate slope into a bitter final act again featuring the barrel and a touch more of the alcohol's presence.

I'd been looking forward to this one for a while... I can't remember who it was that inspired me to add it to my wants list (a quick tour through the ratings yields a likely result of either @ovaltine or @WesMantooth ), but I'm glad I did, and even gladlier that Brian was able and kind enough to send it along as part of that BIF madness.

    Cheers!

Time for my first new beer in New Mexico. It is Chicken Killer, a barleywine from Santa Fe Brewing Company. ABV is 10%.
Poured into a cheap plastic hotel drinking cup, the beer was a red/amber color. There was a huge fluffy off-white head and even a bit of lace.
Sweet caramel and dark fruit aroma, with just a whiff of alcohol.
Caramel and raisin taste, a little late hops.
I liked this beer. It's not as insanely hopped as other barleywines.

    Nickel Brook Kentucky Bastard
    ..solid black color
...light carbonation, thick full body with a slight oily slick feel. Overall an excellent feel
..aroma is roasted malt, roasted espresso beans, black coffee, dark cocoa, alcohol, and sweet bourbon.
..taste is similar, bourbon isn't dominate and it really allows the other flavors to show up nicely. A mild sweetness coupled with mild coffee bitterness.
..overall I found this to be world class and the fact that all the flavors showed up was a major plus . Also for the high abv it is hidden so well it's hard to believe[IMG]

Feel like something a bit different with lunch . . .

Chandeleur Brewing Love Bug Passion Fruit Sour Ale

Hazy deep yellow color with little lacing.

Aroma of over ripe tropical fruit. It's a pleasant aroma but lacks vibrancy.

Flavor is a bit tart, a bit sour, about evenly divided but not really very much in either direction. I get the fruit influence yet also get the impression the respective fruits hung on the tree just a bit past prime. There's nothing unpleasant about the flavor, just a lack of vibrancy and freshness.

Light medium texture with balancing carbonation.

A theme beer with an attractive package. The label presents a charming. almost endearing caricature of two enamored love bugs in a whimsical and brightly colorful setting. Graphics, layout, is all first rate but the beer falls short of the mark. I just wish the brewer had put as much thought into the beer as they did the package. I think this would work better if the citrus were pineapple, orange, cherry, or even lime. I suppose passion fruit was chosen to keep with the overall theme but theme alone does not for a better beer make. I think my Bud Light friends might enjoy this as their 4th or 5th beer of the day otherwise I can't recommend it as a first choice. I do think the theme works as the package alone is enough to sell it, once.

Thanks @lordofthewiens for another great NBS start, and best wishes on your new adventure!

I'm getting back in the homebrewing groove, currently watching the boil on a Belgian Dubbel that I will hopefully enjoy this fall. I'm hoping to draw some inspiration for a local beer that was brewed in part with Trappist yeast propagated by another local company, Bootleg Biology:

Belgian Tripel, New Heights Brewing Co., Nashville, TN

Really digging this one. A great looking beer with a clear golden color and a frothy white head that lingered. Champagne-like bubbles ascended from the bottom throughout the drink.

The aroma was as billed with cloves, ripe bananas, bread, and faint citrus.

The clove was up front on the taste, followed by a nice mix of banana, white bread, honey, and floral notes. Complex.

Awesome feel to this beer. A touch more than medium-body with a nice dry finish. Fine and assertive carbonation appropriate for style.

Overall a winner. The yeast did a great job creating an interesting mix of flavors. Well-made and highly recommended. Cheers!

Today's new beer is a kellerbier from Grevensteiner. This can pour to a pilsener glass has a tall foam cap and a dark amber color. The aroma is of hay-like hops, but not crisp. The flavor is woody and full. It finishes with a honey-like sweetness. A drier finish would be more refreshing.

Happy Sunday NBS player. Pretty much a perfect summer day here on the island. Going to possibly the beach this afternoon and got some grilling lined up with plenty of lounging and relaxing. I actually don’t have any new beer on hand. A quick fix to that problem is to hit a local brewery. Stopping in at Westhampton brewing co.

My new beer today is there Jetty 4 Lager, Vienna style lager. The brew checks in at 5.8% abv and 11 ibu.

A copper amber pour with a fluffy white head and good clarity. Malt and bread on the nose. A rush of soft malt upfront with lots of bread and toasted notes. Very clean flow and slightly hoppy/bitter finish. Additional notes of German malt, caramel, spices and grass. The mouth feel is light/moderate. Crisp and clean on the palate.

Overall, an average easy drinker as was to probably be expected. I’m in the mid 3’s here players,

New beer #2 @Sixpoint Spritzer thanks to @CanConPhilly. Only real flaw I’m noticing is that the head was small for a very aggressive pour and didn’t last very long, but I guess should be expected for a 2.5 week old beer in a can compared to a lot of the couple months to year old bottle conditioned saison I tend to enjoy.

Happy NBS! My family spent a good 3 hours yesterday in kayaks at Governor Dodge St Park in WI. It was warm and a beautiful day to enjoy some outdoor time on the water. My girls were happy that there was a beach on the lake so they could get in some swimming. It was a terrific family day.

Today I am enjoying a new beer from Good City Brewing called Dr. J. It pours a cloudy gold color with a nice white 2 finger head that fades into a thick cap and leaves behind blobs of lacing. The scent is quite heavy on tropical hops, passion fruit, melon, pineapples along with some citrus. The tropical sweetness of the fruits is really forward with some light musty melon, pineapples. A bit of citrus, pine and malt in the finish. A nice medium body that is sticky and has soft carbonation. A very enjoyable IPA from GCB.
