Tell me about it- that's a $7-8 shelf beer at my local Bottle King, just a crazy good value.

New Berliner Weisse Sunday (Week 705)
Greetings fellow NBSers from on the ridge in Mid Hud Val, NY. Beauty day here, which I spent in the woods, mostly taking pics of interesting fungi, but I won't pass up a good edible if I spot it and there were plenty, though the woods are dry and some serious rain is gonna be needed to pop the next round of shrooms. Here is one of the more beautiful ones I found, it's about three inches tall. Tentative ID is Ramaria aurea.

Am drinking a very delicious beer and I am not doing it justice with my review, so I am not adding the beer to the database until I have a better attempt at describing it. Not sure what it is that is giving me this mental block, but I suspect I have been spending too much time out looking for shrooms, and too much time eating them too. Industrial Arts Corkscrew.

The smell is as if you took a standard berliner weisse smell, added some grape must aroma, gave it less of a wheaty smell, added some layers of overripe fruit, and put other lighter flavors in that will remain undescribed.

The taste is exactly as expected from the aroma. Perfectly balanced, and very delicious, also with those flavors in nose I can't put to words.

Soft on palate, but substantial and more full bodied and viscous than most berliners, with low carb. for style, and a tart and fruity finish.

Very delicious, more complex than this review describes, more aromas and flavors, and I hope for you to taste it and give your opinion so I can see what it is I am tasting that I cannot describe. Very enjoyable. Recommended.

Hope you also have a Great American Beer in your glass. Cheers!

Medium golden-yellow beer, hazed to near-opacity, with a coupla fingers of white foam on top... Real nice citrus and pine blend here, presenting impressions of grapefruit rind and clean pine, rounded off with some lightly sweet orange impressions and an herbal airiness... Sweetness is very mild, bitterness mild-moderate, with a medium-light weight, smoothly carbonated... finishes with a light drying and a clean palate effect... Nice and lean, especially for a DIPA... Julian dating reveals this was a 6/27/18 canning...

This one is totally my favorite of the three I've had (so far?) today...

Here's to finding a beer better than your last, cheers...

I spent 8 hours in class today getting recertification as a Futsal referee and a USSF adult soccer referee. Fortunately, they scheduled the class very close to my favorite beer retailer. The fall season means Oktoberfest....

Thick , fluffy off white three finger foam head. Settles into a billowy yellow-white foamy lid. Faint lacings on the glass. Clear Russet copper color with faint carbonation.

Aroma of breads malts, a hint of grassy and slight citrus .

Smooth malty sweet with clean finish, no bitter aftertaste.juxtaposed to the NE Ipa styles that ar so prevalent today. Light mouthfeel. Little to no sudsing

Prosiit! Fill up the stein and drink deep on this delicious malty Marzen. Makes you want to drink many steins of this delicious brew. Tastes great and you want more. Another great beer from one of my favorite breweries.

Good afternoon NBSers! Today I'm having one of Speciation's August offerings, Cypsela. Google tells me that a Cypsela is the fruit of the asteraceae family of flowering plants, which contains plants such as sunflowers, daisies, and most relevantly dandelions.

This is the first offering in their staff small batch series, and is a wild farmhouse ale aged in Gray Skies gin barrels with dandelions and honey. This is Kara's recipe, the pleasant young woman who patiently fills my orders at each monthly release. She picked all the dandelion for this, and is apparently related to brewer/ owner Mitch somehow.

It pours a golden brown, with sharp little bubbles that dissipates quickly but leave behind a thin film and a foamy ring around the circumference of the glass. The nose is funk, with a soft floral undertone.

Dang, how to describe this? Slightly tart, light funk, low acidity. The floral notes come back, though sit nicely in the background. There's a minerality which is interesting, and the gin barrel influence shows up late. I sometimes get diacetyl off wild ales with honey, but there is none of that here.

This is a really interesting wild ale, and done well. A lot of layers to this one, and a lot of fun to unpack.

    Cheers!

Happy Sunday, NBS friends. I have a couple of beers tonight that are at opposite end of the beer universe from an English Mild, so humor me, @cjgiant. :sunglasses::sunglasses::sunglasses:

I was honored to escort my beautiful bride yesterday to Double Thai Day at our local brewery, Bare Hands. This is a day where Bare Hands celebrates the exotic, spicy, hoppy excellence of Double ThaI.P.A. and augments that joy by offering up 4 variants as part of a “case to go” if you make the fiduciary investment into two 4-packs of the base beer and one 4-pack each of the variants. Child, please.

So we enjoyed the crowd .....

..... and I enjoyed a hidden gem, an 18th Street/Cycle Brewing Imperial Porter collab named Saturday that weighed in at 16% ABV (that is not a typo) and was traveshamockery good .....

So with the beer fridge finally restocked after the move from Texas to Indiana (it takes a village to raise a beer fridge) .....

..... I am ready to submit a DDH hop bomb that I enjoyed immensely (shocker, I know).

This was picked up at Double Thai Day on 8/25/18, so it should be very fresh. An aggressive pour yields a hazy golden orange body propping up a soapy light tan head. This is what a DIPA should look like, IMHO.

The nose features the dank citrus notes associated with Mosaic and Citra hops, and there’s a subtle spicy lime and lemongrass aroma that the base beer is noted for. I wish those notes were a bit more prominent.

The taste has loads of the dank citrus flavors, which is not surprising given this iteration is DDH’d with Citra, Mosaic, and Simcoe hops, but I’m pleasantly surprised to find the spicy lemongrass and lime flavors not crushed. That’s what makes the base beer, IMHO, and I’m glad to see them at this party.

The mouthfeel is substantial and crisp, fitting the style perfectly. This is quite simply a pleasure to drink.

Last new beer of the day comes from Revolution Brewing Deth's Tar a 14.8% bourbon barrel aged stout. I have been super impressed with these guys lately ( I think Straight Jacket might be one of the best BBA Barleywines I have had). This beer is no different, wonderful flavors of chocolate, bourbon, vanilla and caramel and this thing is dangerously easy drinking.

Appearance 4.25 - Pour jet black with nice tan colored head that settles to a thin film. Strings of lacing spot my glass.

Aroma 4.25 - Lots of sweet chocolate, caramel, big bourbon aroma, oak, roasted malt, vanilla. Great sweet smoky aroma.

Taste 4.5 - Big punch of rich chocolate and roasted malts up front with tons of bourbon. Light barrel presence along with some vanilla and caramel. Taste is sweet but not as sweet as the nose, little big of plum or date as well.

Feel 4.5- Full bodied creamy feel that coats the palate, nice amount of warmth from the bourbon smooth and very easy drinking for the 14.8% ABV.

Overall 4.43 - Been really impressed with these guys and their barrel aged beers, wonderful aroma and excellent taste.

The pour is jet black with a dark tan head that disappears in seconds. The chocolate and mango dominate the nose, and there is maybe a smidge of coconut.

The chocolate and mango vie for attention on the taste, and there’s also a coconut note, but the mouthfeel is a bit thin for an imperial stout. I’m really enjoying this, but I think Bare Hands may have tried to do too much here.

Blew me away and had to save for last.
    One to age.
    A) Never ending head and rim, that laces in even a flight pour.
    S) Prune, wood, alcohol, yeast, fruit turned, over aged wine.
    T) As the aroma plus deep meditation medicine, should be consumed in shot or espresso glasses.
    F) Clingy sticky mouth feel, again like medicine, but cleans up in a robust sharp bitter finish. Sip. Meditate, Write jokes.
    O) Loved it, would age it.

Excited to be first reviewer of this best of Carton heritage brew. Indeed Newark was the brew capital of the nation before St Louis or Milwaukee (or San Diego). NJ strikes back with a #brandnewj.
    A) dark, oaky mostly clear body with mid size off white head that lasts and laces.
    S) OAk first, oily, hempy hop, slight dankness. Not fruit, but wood.
    T) Follows the smell. If you like oaky, church-like brews, and oaky wine this is yours.=
    F) Oily serious thick meditation beer. I’m buying and aging.
    O) Carton builds another original. This is a collector item.

"GOD hates astronauts" is all I need to hear to understand the inspiration of this beer. Love it.
Of course, space is supremely hostile to human life and requires a new kind of drive and verve to survive it.
    a) Looks like this will survive the chaos of space, big white head over a cloudy body that lasts and laces.
    s) Big citra hop. Bright, brassy, grassy, orange. Some scat and lemon.
    t) Follows this big smell and gets bigger. Lots of orange hops, tropical fruits, sweet malts, with grass, scat, earth.
    f) Chalky rather than sticky, mineral, orange then into bitterness as it dries on the landing.
    o) Vivacious, puckering, survival beer.

As part of flight at brewer, this Double Porter impresses.
    A) Ring of steady head and lace over a black body.
    S) Char first coffee second, wood third, church and a Hail Mary last but not least with accompanying perfume and incense.
    T) No less that the aroma church-like, grave, charred. Smell the coffee and wake up!
    F) Punches an ascerbic hop bite in the finish to balance precieding sweetness. I could operate on espresso cups of this and espresso all day long with the right balance of mood and mind.
    O) Not tame, big double porter, kudos to Rook as well as Kane.

In a shoot-out or flight with me, often the APA wins. (Dales my fave) This beer does not disappoint.
A sneakbox is a small, camo boat used in hunting.
    a) Pours hazy, clouded gold with active carbonation. White head laces and lasts like clouds.
s Begins with bright citrus, tropical fruit, herbs and flowers, over a sweet caramel and honey malt base.
    t) Mid way the Citra hops kick in with abundance cascades of fruit and then land dry and bitter.
    f) Nice feel, mid weight, great food beer.
    o) Hoppy APA at its best.

    Surly Darkness 2012 RIS
Pours a motor oil black with a luscious milk chocolate and creamy colored head. Thing ring to nice spotty lacing.
Huge wonderful aromas of bakers chocolate, espresso, coffee, raisin, and a hint of piney hops, roasty dark malts and spices and extracts.
Taste is just mind blowing; dark chocolate, figs, raisins, aged port grapes, coffee, cinnamon, pine, toffee, sticky brulee, vanilla. Wow.
The body is medium - not a heavy drinker. The flavors beg for another sip supported by a decent carb for the age. The finish is on the dry side and not leaves a perfect balance of sweet/hop resins.
Ive been saving this and so glad I opened it. What a fantastic multi dimensional brew. At every corner you are enticed with a different nuance or feel. A beer thats like walking through an amusement park. Excitement at every turn and you cant wait for the next ride....damn[IMG]

Very nice DIPA. Awesome head retention and foamy lacing on the glass. Aromas and flavors of big tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, mango, melon, guava, berries, citrus peel/rind, wood, peppercorn, and pine hops; with moderate brown sugar, wheat, cracker, biscuit dough malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, woody, peppery bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; balanced creamy/bready/grainy malts and sticky hops in the mouthfeel. Some resins/rinds, light-moderate increasing dryness, minimal hop astringency. Very smooth, not overly aggressive, minimal warming 8%. Feels like mostly Columbus, Chinook, and Simcoe; which is unique for a hazy style. Very juicy, vibrant, dank, and earthy balanced hop complexity; nice bready malt/sugary backbone, with minimal residual sweetness from lingering dryness. Would not mind picking it up again, very well done. 3.9

Outstanding Brett Saison as expected. Great head retention and foamy lacing on the glass. Aromas and flavors of big lightly tart lemon, lime, strawberry, orange, grapefruit, peach, pear, melon, red apple, white wine, citrus peel/zest, peppercorn, wood, mint, pine, hay, straw, herbal, floral, and grass; with moderate wheat, cracker, white bread, light biscuit malts; light leathery/musty funk, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate peppery yeast spiciness; pine, zesty, herbal, floral, grassy bitterness; and slight Brett tang/tartness on the finish. Medium-high carbonation, medium body, and moderately crisp/clean finishing. Bready/grainy malts. some sticky hops, and slight acidity in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing bitter/spicy/carbonated dryness, no hop astringency. Very flavorful/refreshing, minimal warming 7.1%. Well over a year old, but that is a positive thing for Brett saisons. Awesome well rounded Brett/Saison yeast complexity with balanced citrus/fruity/earthy hops; nice bready malt backbone, with minimal residual sweetness. I hope they put the Genetic Drifts in cans soon. Wonderful. 4.15

Now up a kind of new beer, 2SP Vermelho Funaça, a smoked porter ages in red wine barrels. I had this on draft at the brewery over a year ago but finally sitting down and have it from the bottle. Good evening NBS & thank you @cjgiant for the opening post. I have worked 75 hours in last 6 days and need a beer!
It is a little ironic or serendipitous that I picked this beer up Friday night. Not your usual NBS IPA. Great Lakes has just begun distribution to Indiana and I am taking advantage by ticking style #89 English IPA...
    The review:
12oz bottle bb 10/31/18 poured into a nonic pint glass at fridge temp 7.7% ABV 70 IBU. The beer pours bright copper tinted amber with abundant light tan head. The head recedes to a thin, but complete, cap and laces the glass very nicely. The aroma is faint with a hint of yeast and caramel. The taste is semisweet caramel and earthy hops in a balancing act. Neither really overcomes the other before the medium bitter and dry finish. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and adequately carbonated. Overall, good. This is, most likely, a loose or Americanized version of an English IPA. It's pleasant and would be good with food. I would prefer some distinct English hop notes.

There you have it. I might have a couple more over on WBAYDN, but I'm all out of energy for reviews. Cheers all and enjoy the new beer in your glass!

Played in a soccer tournament this weekend - 3 games over the course of yesterday and this morning. We found out Friday morning that the other Over-30 teams dropped out so we got bumped up to the open division playing against two club college teams and another team who had an average age at least 8-10 years younger than us. It was rough going because of their speed, but we ended up with two respectable losses yesterday and then squeaked out a somewhat surprising 2-1 victory this morning. My new beer for today was had after our game while waiting to see if we would be playing a fourth game (thankfully we didn't have to).

Jack's Abby - Post Shift (sorry for the large stock photo, I didn't snap one when I had it).
Appearance: no idea because I drank directly from the bright yellow can.
Taste: like the sweet taste of victory, exhaustion, and a job well done. Also, pretty standard pilsner - crisp, clean, slightly hoppy.
    Feel: Smooth
Overall: A solid pilsner that I would definitely look for again. I do tend to like a lot of the Jack's Abby beers, so I wasn't overly surprised I liked this one, too.
