Very poetic. I can't tell if it's a Mastodon reference or a Grateful Dead reference or if you're just naturally poetic. Maybe it's all three.

New Wild Ale Sunday (Week 712)
Goood morning all you outstanding Oktoberfest inspirers and magnificent Marzen admirers, Happy New Beer Sunday from on the ridge in Mid Hud Val, NY. Glad to join you all today.

Chill morning but looks to be a beautiful day. Been six days since my last day in the woods, and I will be spending today in the beauty of mixed hardwood forest of the Shawangunk Mountains. Gonna be a picture taking day for this untalented but motivated photographer, as I still have pounds of my last, huge batch of mushrooms drying on a big screen with two fans, and in the freezer and fridge are maitake mushroom soup, fried maitake with mustard dipping sauce, herb crusted maitake, and simple saute'ed garlic and maitake. Have eaten myself to the edge of illness with these delicious shrooms And though I have given away soooo many dried, the upstairs freezer is full of food saver bags with more.

Have cut way back on my beer drinking as I prepare to take a month+ off completely, but I have a new beer courtesy of the estimable @WillieThreebiers , and am gonna have it now for a pre-woods late breakfast, so let's get this baby ready for the Crack and Glug (apologies, @woodychandler, the royalty check is in the mail).

Re: in-laws, I must say that both my ex mothers-in-law were far superior people to my own mother, who was an angry, arrogant, judgmental, sinister genius of a woman who we now believe to have been a functional sufferer of mental illness through her adult life. I miss my ex-mothers-in-law more than I miss my ex-wives.

Thanks again to my wandering buddy Prof. Bill for this delicious beer from OEC, Petanque. Listed as a wild ale. Really enjoying this, in a can no less!
Highly recommend this one. Hell, I have had a number of OEC beers over the years since B. United had the wonderful idea for it, and every one, no exception, has been a top quality treat. You simply cannot go wrong with any beer from OEC. I will recap this one from my review-
At its roots this is a simple Berliner-esque sour beer with spice added. Yet it captures an amazing amount of clean, strong flavors, tames them, balances them, and allows them to perform refreshing dances of deliciousness on the palate.

    Full story here

Hope you also have a Great American Beer in your glass. Cheers!

Just to add some Lawson's news, their new brewery and tap room in Waitsfield already have had a soft opening, and are ready to open completely to the public in the coming days. Big change for a brewery that did distro and events only, and not so much of that. I understand Sip will continue to be brewed in Conn.

Hi Folks. My theme today is drinking beers related to past NBS beers. A few weeks back, I tried Edmund's Oast Coin Operated - a Belgian table beer from a brewery that's new to my area. I really did not like it:

That particular beer didn't make me want to drink more from them... but then they came out with a mild. Put a mild on the shelf and I'm gonna try it:

    Edmund's Oast - Lord Proprietor's Mild

OK... so here's my second chance for an Edmund's Oast low-ish ABV drinker, and I'm having the same reaction as the first (but I like this one better between the two). This is a 3.5% "mild" with black tea. Nice head but overall low carbonation. Body (and flavor) are very watery. Taste is mainly mild coffee with a little nuttiness and a little berry tanginess. I enjoy the lightness of this offering, but once again, I feel like this brewer just isn't capable of making the most out of a low ABV brew. Glancing at other people's reactions to this beer, I seem to be in the minority with my take on it.

I had two servings of Guinness Draught last night, and I enjoyed those way more. Not too long ago, I had two servings of Suarez Saunter (their dark mild), and I enjoyed those way more too. Granted, neither are an apples to apples comparison (with one of those two being a porter and both of them with ABVs in the 4s), but they still both provided a somewhat similar and far more enjoyable drinking experience.

I'm pretty much plebeian in my tastes. I've consumed massive amounts of Old Overholt in my distant past - when my drug test results didn't come back in time and delayed my DROS, my buddies referred to me as "Old Holdover". Now, it's Wild Turkey, Woodford Reserve, Whistlepig, Ranger Creek's .44 Rye, and of course, the PBR of ryes, Old overholt. As for livers, I hear you can get a new one nowadays.

[IMG] First of many new ones I will touch off today. @lordofthewiens I really love hearing your story about you father in-law, especially knowing he is a survivor of pancreatic cancer which my Dad is dealing with at this time, hopefully my father can have the same outcome. Cheers Doc.

Pours a very dark near pitch black with a massive 3 plus finger head that leaves a ton of webby lace at near room temperature. 4.5[IMG] Smell is boozy, dark fruit, molasses, pecan, dark chocolate, coffee grounds, tobacco, and vanilla bean. 4

Taste follows big shot of cognac, figs, brown sugar, molasses, dark chocolate, expresso, tobacco, and vanilla. 4.25

Mouthfeel is a little thinner than I prefer maybe medium, gentle carbonation, a tad dry for sure, and drinks much bigger than its 10.1% ABV. 3.75

Overall a very complex stout that would drink nicer for me if it was more chewy, but it is still an excellent imperial stout. 4

Never had Old Overholt. I had a WhistlePig once. I don’t think it was rye. I remember really liking it.

    Synopsis:
I’m getting a lot of the same things as @Victory_Sabre1973 noted in his review. This thing is a grapefruit and pineapple machine, but I also get a huge cotton candy taste in the finish...which I usually don’t dig, but here the sweetness is complementary to the other flavors. Near-perfect body too. Also, points for the math nerd can. Thank you Josh!

Happy New Beer Sunday everyone! Today has been extremely sunny and warm for October and I am drinking a beer made for Easter; lots of seasons in one day. The beer is "Boskeun" from De Dolle Brouwers:

The appearance is a hazy golden orange with a generous white head. It took awhile to get the beer fully poured and the head has stuck around to some extent for the entire beer.

The aroma is very sweet, herby, a bit spicey, has some notes of honey and slight alcohol aromas.

The taste is sweet with notes of honey and malt upfront followed by some zesty citrus flavors, spice, Belgian yeast and a bit of alcohol on the finish.

The mouthfeel is medium to thick and the beer has a nice carbonation level.

Overall I really enjoyed this beer. The aroma and flavor were layered and quite complex. Even though the beer had many various flavors it was still easy to drink and definitely an enjoyable experience. All the beers I've had from De Dolle Brouwers have been really solid and this was another wonderful beer from them. Hopefully everyone else is enjoying a new beer this Sunday!

IPA collaboration between Barrier and KCBC features Huell Melon and Mosaic hops, canned 10/2/18, 7.5% abv... Pours a hazy medium-pale gold under a tall head of white foam...Floral aromas of lime and grapefruit on the nose... On the sip, more bright but soft citrus impressions are accompanied by mild honeydew - moderately sweet, with an almost berry-like moment... Feel is smooth, light-medium weight, with soft carbonation...

Jack's Abby - Shipping out of Boston Kellerbier

Last week, I featured a group of "Kellerbiers," and today I'm following up with two related beers. Here's the text from last week:

After being very happy with last week's Jack's Abby Private Rye, I'm returning with another beer in their "Keller Series." This can is half a year old. I passed on it when it first came out. It's not showing signs of being very damaged from age. This is their "export lager" (hence the name "Shipping out of Boston") at 5.8% ABV.

It's a murky dried apricot orange color. Carbonation is low but prickly. Thick sticky body. This is one of those beers that simultaneously feels both sweet and dry - so it swings a bit from moment to moment but the result is balance. Tastes of unsweet corn and hearty bread. Hops provide great balance rather than big personality. This is like comfort food in beer form. Very enjoyable.

Cheers from rainy Tennessee! This is a @JackHorzempa inspired post, as I'd like to share some thoughts on my latest homebrew. A few months ago, @Lingenbrau posted a pic of his German Pilsener hopped with Huell Melon and it sounded like a great take on a classic style. I've been looking for different hops to try in a Pils, so I gave it a go, and I'm so glad I did! The Huell Melon does provide the classic noble hop floral and grassy notes, but it also brings interesting fruity flavors, like cantaloupe and strawberry. Subtle but definitely there. One of my favorite brews and one that might become a house beer. Cheers!

Good morning NBS & thanks for the opening @lordofthewiens
A funny story about beer and inlaws... My wife and I met at college around 20 years old. Both our families lived several hours away and finally the time came that she thought I should meet her folks. We set off on a late fall Friday night to make the drive south. She was driving and it began to snow. She wouldn't slow down and was fishtailing all over the road for two hours. As we pulled into her hometown she admitted her dad didn't allow her to drive in the snow and that was her very first time. We walked into my in law's house and made introductions, after which my future father in law graciously offered me a beer. I accepted that Coors light, opened it and drank it in one drink without a breath. As I set the empty can down I realized that might not have been the best first impression. That was 24 years ago. My father in law has been gone for two years. I enjoyed many beers with him over the years and he was as much a father to me as my own dad. My mother-in-law lives two blocks down the street and is part of our daily lives. I've been lucky in that regard. On to beer...
    The review:
12oz undated can poured into a tulip pint glass at fridge temp 7.8% ABV 33 IBU. The beer pours dark brown with brown highlights and mocha brown head. The head recedes to a film and leaves some lacing. The aroma is very coffee forward obscuring the cocoa nibs and vanilla beans described on the label. The taste is a nice balance of coffee, cocoa and vanilla with some Belgian character and bitterness to keep the sweetness in check. Mouthfeel is medium to thin bodied, adequately carbonated and mostly dry in the finish. Overall, very good. A very creative take on a Belgian Dark Ale, oddly reminiscent of a "Mexican stout" in additives and overall profile.

Sorry for the mile long post. I've got two more Taxman brews slated for review today. Cheers all!

Going with the theme of the thread, I get well along with my in-laws, 27th anniversary next Saturday. My pet peeve regarding them is that they LOVE craft beer and top shelf alcohol but will not buy ANY. They look forward to having beer at my home, however when we visit them the best I have ever drank is Sam Adams Boston Lager.Moving right along this is Signature Move from Triple Crossing courtesy of @vabeerguy, a DIPA from Virginia. Pours an opaque orange with a half inch white head that is well retained, settles to a thin layer and leaves a good amount of lacing. Smell is rather mild with citrus and tropical fruit elements. Tastes of orange, orange peel, apricot, under ripe peach, some lactose sweetness and earthy notes. Medium bodied and carbonated, minimal bitterness, very slightly dry finish. Overall an excellent beer. Thanks Mike.
