Bless me advocates for it appears I have fallen on to the wagon? Trust me when I say I have kept the faith while visiting a couple of our Nat'l Parks and tapping the Klamath Basin but lacked the timing and posting wherewithal. Back now surrounded by all of life's conveniences - wifi, atms, showers and bad commutes.

Voodoo Ranger Atomic Pumpkin was a throw in to my Oktoberfest assemblage from a few weeks ago but well within its enjoy by date. A classic pour into a Spiegelau tulip generated a two finger, off-white head atop the orange-yellow.
Cinnamon aroma dominates with maybe some faint vegetable - green pepper or pumpkin.
Some pumpkin but really just a spicy finish but lacks sweetness to tie things together
Medium bodied but with a off-putting mucous thickening effect.
A chili beer attempting to be an edgy pumpkin ale was not successful. Not terribly interesting. Fine as part of a pick-a-six or a sample size. 3.58 -5.5%

Poured from a can dated 9/21 to a nonic.
NIce head, hazy body, with floaties.
Aroma is mild, hint of citrus, but not strong.
The taste is not citrusy though, borders on dank with some malt presence.
Overall, not horrible, but I was expecting more.

BullyJuice from Bolero Snort, and 8.1% DIPA...
10/2/18 canning, brewed with Galaxy, Denali, and Mosaic hops at Wyndridge Farm in Dallastown, PA... Medium golden caramel-colored and opaque, with a coupla fingers of off-white head on top... Citric aromas undercut with notes of sweeter tropical fruits and light herbal pine... Flavors of mild passion fruit, citrus along the lines of orange and mild lime, a not-particularly sweet pineapple element, and a flash of dull berry... Doesn't get too sweet, nor does it present much bitterness - well-balanced between the two tastes... Feel is smooth, medium-weight, and gently carbonated... Drinks like an IPA... A very nice beer...

    Cheers...

Good evening NBS, hope everyone is enjoying the end of the weekend once again. Normal weekend for me as usual. 2 recent BIF trades are in, with another trade going out tomorrow. So I am good to go on reviews for a couple weeks. I was nearly running out as of last week.

    New Beer.

Awesome APA! Fantastic lasting head retention/lacing on the glass. Aromas and flavors of big ruby grapefruit, mandarin orange, lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, blueberry, citrus peel/zest, mint, peppercorn, and pine hops; with moderate cracker, biscuit dough, light toasted malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, grassy, woody, peppery bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation, light-medium body, and moderately crisp finishing. Balanced bready/grainy malts and sticky hops in the mouthfeel. Some resins/rinds, moderate increasing bitter dryness, no hop astringency. Very flavorful/refreshing, 5.2%. Awesome Mosaic/Crystal showcase. Very juicy, vibrant, dank, and earthy balanced hop complexity; nice bready malt backbone for the ABV, with no residual sweetness. Outstanding for the style. 4.13
    [IMG]

First review, Strange Roots. Awesome saison. Good head retention, minimal lacing as expected. Aromas and flavors of big tart/sour lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, papaya, mango, melon, strawberry, guava, red/green apple, white grape/wine, peppercorn, oak, hay, straw, herbal, and grass; with moderate wheat, cracker, white bready malts; lighter notes of leathery/musty/lacto funk, white wine vinegar, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate lactic tang/tartness; peppery yeast, and oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Medium-plus carbonation, light-medium body, and fairly crisp finishing. Balanced bready/grainy malts, lactic acid, and oak tang/tannins in the mouthfeel. Moderate increasing spicy, acidic, tangy, tannic dryness; no puckering. Very smooth, not overly lactic, minimal warming 6.4%. Outstanding Brett/Bacteria and Saison yeast complexity; nice oak presence and pale/wheat malt backbone against acidity. Spot on stuff. 4.1

Good Sunday afternoon, New Beer Samplers and commentators. I'm glad to join you all as it's been a frantic weekend at here at Casa MacMalt. We are renovating most of our new house and the spackling and sanding is finally complete and the custom book cases installed in the family room. The kitchen cabinetry arrives tomorrow. We've been cleaning and dusting furiously because we are picking our new puppy up tomorrow and we don't want her breathing sheet rock dust. It's very exciting as we've been without a dog for over 18 months.

On to New Beer #1. I received a couple of cans of King Sue in a trade with @bstyle. I've been wanting to try it for ages and am excited to do so. It deserves its World Class rating. The citrus and melon are big and bold and are superbly balanced with vanilla/lactose and a strong dose of Citra hops. At 8% ABV it's very easy to drink. It's one of the best DIPAs I've ever had which is reflected in my rating. Here's my review:

    4.66/5 rDev +0.9%
    look: 4.25 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4.75 | feel: 4.75 | overall: 4.75

I received this from @bstyle in a trade. Poured from 16 oz. can into a Spiegelau IPA glass. It pours an opaque, golden-tangerine color with two fingers of bright white, fluffy head and lots of spotty lacing. What a dynamite aroma! Lemon, pineapple, tangerine, grapefruit, lactose/vanilla, and soft floral hops. You can smell it the moment the top is popped. Wow, this is close to perfect: It opens with big tangerine, pineapple, and tart lemon and grapefruit. I'm also tasting ripe melon. The vanilla/lactose provides a creamy sweetness, and the Citra hops are highly flavorful and moderately bitter but without a strong bite. To me, it doesn't drink like 100 IBU. It has a pleasantly creamy mouth feel with moderate carbonation, and the 8% ABV is perfect. A second pour is a must. Overall, King Sue is exquisite - wonderful, bold flavors that balance well, and super drinkable. I'm glad to finally have tried this World Class DIPA.

I have a stout from @Vidblain assuming room temperature and should be back shortly. In the meantime, I hope you're all enjoying your new beer this autumn afternoon!

Speaking of In-laws; kind of had a complicated relationship with them. I got along okay with her mom, but she had mental issues that led to my wife & her being estranged.
Her Dad, I couldn't stand him forever. He had married a bunch of times & to me he always put his own kids second, especially my wife ( one of the reasons she moved out on her own at 16 ). Her step-family & her Dad would only be in touch when they wanted something. Much later in life her Dad had health issues that was either going to put him in a home or someone would need to take him ( more to it, but I am trying to keep this short ).

Back 2010 we had him move in with us in Oklahoma. I figured if my wife wanted to take him, who was I to object. Over time my wife & her Dad mended fences, so I came along for the ride as well. He was a decent Grand-Pa to my kids & that's all I could ask. He passed this Fall, done in by Alzheimers. But I was happy that I got to know him in a different light.

Now on the beer. Crooked/Stave Maui Two Ticker to Paradise Tropical Saison, 4.7% ABV, 3.65 overall

Pours like an effervescent Chablis with pinky of beige head. Zero head retention & lacing

S: Pears, a little berry scent, plenty of oakyness once warm

T: Pears, berries, a little hibiscus tea with oaky dryness up front. Oaky dryness, white grapes & pears as this warms, plus the lime showing as well. Finishes with a little lime peel, berry sweet tart & barrel dryness

    MF: Medium body, slight carbonation

Drinks easy enough, but just not that memorable

    My first American Solera
    [IMG]
Pours a rusty purple shade, bubbly thin head pops out quickly into a few floating bubbles and thin collar.

Aroma is fresh berry, get a hint at the tartness in aroma and some barnyard funk.

Fresh and tart blackberry up front with some more jammy flavors as it warms. Tartness and sweetness is mellowed by an earthy funk background. Grassy grains poke through the layers.

Moderate carbonation, hint of effervescence. Medium body.

A great sour ale and I’m happy @r0rschach sent a few from these guys. Thanks!

    Long-time want here.

L: Dark gold color with a good amount of off -white head. The lacing is crazy on this thing, it clings to the glass for days.
S: Getting a ton of citrus and tropical fruit scents, followed by a nice hoppy pine scent.
T: Tons of citrus in the flavor and also some pine notes.
F: Medium-bodied with a good carb and a nice dry finish.
O: This one does not disappoint, super solid DIPA.

    Thanks Corey!

    Mango Gold

A Tart Wheat Ale from Michigan courtesy of @Smokesnotes. I’ve got another beer of the same style that I think I’ll review after this one.

    3.65/5 rDev -5.4%
    look: 3.75 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 3.75

Appearance: This tart mango wheat ale pours a golden-amber color. Despite a slight haze, it is translucent. Upon gently pouring, the beer immediately foams up. The loosely packed bubbles leave a wake of lace in their path. No visible carbonation. The head disappears as I drink the beer. As does the lace.

Smell: Fruit forward acidity, driven by ripe mango, juicy peach and dried apricot, with sweet Macintosh apple.

Taste: This beer has low acidity. The flavor is nicely fruit forward with mango, peach, red grape, and a crackery dry finish. Probably the least acidic kettle soured beer I’ve had.

Mouthfeel: Light, prickly carbonation. Not too sweet. Not too dry.

Overall: This is a very good beer. I’d prefer some more acidity from it for the style, as well as to offset some of the sweetness. However, it is a very “clean” kettle soured beer in that there is nothing offputting about it.

    Thanks again, Jason!

Happy Sunday NBS players. Fall seems to have taken full grip this weekend here on the island with a good 20 degree drop from the mid week temps. We dipped down into the high 30's last night and had to crank on the heat for the first time. The older I get the faster the seasons seem to go or time for that matter. Watching football all day, of course, and the Jets with a nice second victory in a row.

Taking it pretty easy on the drinking today and I have just one new beer. It is Black Boss Porter, a Baltic porter, from Browar Witnica S.A. in god damn Poland. The brew checks in at 9.4% abv with no apparent bottle date. I have been meaning to get onto a good porter kick and at 2.89 a bottle I figured what the hell.

The pour yields a dark cola color with a fast white head and good clarity. The nose is sweet with malts and sugars. Roasted malts hit upfront on the initial sips. A rather smooth flow and finish. I get a rather pronounced cola flavor. It's not completely off-putting but the brew really drinks on the sweeter side of things and at times drowning out the malt characters. I'm getting additional notes of brown sugar, honey, caramel, vanilla, and burnt breads. The mouth feel is light/moderate and drinks a bit seems to be a bit thin on the body at times. The abv is barely noticeable.

Overall, its ok but not something I would probably have again. It was well worth trying and seeing some of the reviews here I might be tempted to revisit and see if my opinion is better on another day.The sweet cola flavor was just a bit to pronounced for me. I'm in the 3.5 range at best here players,

New Belgium Oakspire, 9% ABV. Pours deep burgundy, with a one middle finger of off-white head that left slight lacing. Nose is...pretty much nothing, and taste follows. A bit malty, but that's about it. Decent mouthfeel, overall meh. Not picking up any noteworthy flavor and can't detect any barrel. Overall good, in that it's inoffensive.

Checked out both the Brut IPA and DIPA today. Now it's time to fade into something familiar - coffee and stouts.

    To Ol's Mr. Brown 2018.

Pours black with two fingers of dark caramel head that foams up rapidly. Head retention is okay. Aroma is coffee, featuring a kiss of charring and a touch of burnt. Coffee is followed by earthen, roasted, toasted, and nutted malts and a hint of caramel. Flavor profile is smooth and rich coffee, hitting a medium roast. Coffee is accompanied by chocolate and roasted, toasted, nutted, and earthen malts. Coffee is less bitter and more complete in the flavor profile versus the aroma. Mouth feel is medium-thick with a velvety, creaminess that is bordering on thick. Overall, a splendid coffee stout despite a light aroma.
