I was lucky enough to have a couple of their offerings from a very generous ba.

They are putting out some great stuff!

Happy Sunday, NBS crew! It’s been a whirlwind of a long weekend, between the holiday and then a wedding on Black Friday which lasted into the wee hours. I took Saturday off to recover, and now am stocked with new beers to try today. Starting with this one from @vabeerguy . @JamFuel , was this on tap during your visit on Friday?

    Synopsis:
Not my favorite use of galaxy. It’s a bit muddled, with initial tropical flavors fighting with dank, some sour lemon, and some noticeable alcohol on the finish. Still, the smell and initial taste on this are lovely. Mosaic Triangles remains their best session ipa though. Thanks again Mike!

Good morning NBS and thanks @lordofthewiens for the start today. Glad to here your time with family was delightful. We had a local and relaxing day in WMass. Today's offering is from Weyerbacher, the Sunday Morning Stout I have walked by for some time now, no longer.
A very well constructed offering, this 4 pack was in the cooler at the local bottle shop, so treated well in that regard. I will look for a 2018 version to compare. A lush brew with a fine mix of flavors.

Poured from a 2017 bottle into the test glass at fridge temp.
A - Smokey Topaz, in color, deep and dark, gently carbonated, a thin ring of mocha clings to the glass throughout.
S - Roast chili pepper, dark roast coffee, hint of cinnamon, bakers chocolate, with a rise in temperature more vanilla and toasted oak is evident.
T - All the layers in the aromatics transfer to the palate, with the barrel touch more prominent, the coffee and dark malts are in harmony. A touch of Mole sauce hides in he corner, quite pleasant in that regard.
M - Oily, the carbonation cant compete with this hefty offering. Semi sweet, like having 75-80% Madagascar chocolate. Linger is espresso in style.
O - A very good stout, complex, alcohol is buried deep in the blankets of flavors, Well done on every level

    Unfortunately I can't post a photo of this one . . .

Uinta Brewing Noble Nectar, a Belgian Strong Pale Ale.

Clear light gold color with good cap and lacing.

Aroma of caramel grain, clove and honey.

Taste is a complex mixture of deep honeyed grain, ripe yellow fruit, spices such as clove and cardamom, all of which give a sense of both savory and sweet. Little hop presence that I can detect with the balancing prickle coming mainly from carbonation. No hint of alcohol but at 8.5% it's certainly in there.

Medium full texture with balancing carbonation.

My first impression was Belgian Tripel and by the end of the glass that was still my impression. This is a well crafted characterful brew that advances to the head of the class.

    Good morning everyone.
    ..eviltwin Irish-ish coffee stout
    ..pours a solid black
...very light carbonation but still noticeable, body is creamy, thick, and definitely above average
...aroma is vanilla, coffee, spice, roasted malt, and toasted oak.
..taste is vanilla, coffee, and roasted malt at first but then the toasted oak shows up. The nutmeg makes its appearance and like the oak stay consistent throughout every taste and lingers. This delivers all the flavors advertised, you don't have to look hard to find them.
...overall it was excellent, the coffee got bitter and stronger as it warmed but it isn't a bad thing [IMG]

This is a rock-solid IPA. The beer comes across with a pleasing appearance, dark gold in color with a nice sticky, white head with good lacing and layers of foam down the glass. The aroma comes across balanced as well, warm and malty with a crisp scent of sugary sweetness complemented with some pine resin notes. The flavor is full-on, much like the aroma. The hop bitterness is well-balanced with the bakery sweetness. The body is medium-heavy; warm and crisp with a mixed dry/sweet finish.

All in all, a very enjoyably IPA and a nice way to ease into an early Sunday morning...

Good morning NBS and thanks D. For getting us started so early in the morning ...

I didn’t celebrate Thanksgiving as it isn’t a tradition in Europe however I can tell I’m grateful for a number of things:

Having my parents and most close family still around and kicking
    Being in good health myself
Having an awesome girlfriend as well for 8 months now...
    Among other things.

Back to beer, I just bought a Parisian beer; actually an English IPA hence the name: Hop save the Queen. 330ml, 5,6%.

Poured into a neutral glass, giving a three inches bubbly white head.

Look is golden and opaque. Nice retention although the beer produce an unusual big foam for an English IPA.

Smells tea and tangerine as written on the label (I’m cheating a bit - but it’s educational I guess).

Aromas of citrus, cassis and spices. It’s decently balanced.

Overall impression: those who follow my posting in WBAYDN probably know I’m mostly into American and Belgian beers (regardless of the style) and I don’t know a great deal about French beer. This one isn’t a disappointment, it surely won’t blow you away but buying local every now and then is good and encourage the « small guys ».

This beer isn’t listed on the BA database so I’ll give it a 3,75 overall rating.

    Cheers.

Delicious! From the nose to the close, sweet orange and rich chocolate - tastes like marmalade and chocolate syrupy in beer form, with a little bit of molasses for good measure... Solid body, sweet and (a little) sticky, with a wonderful lingering aftertaste of... you guessed it - orange and chocolate...

    A real winner...

Well, NBS, that's all I've got new beer-wise at the moment - I have a Russian imperial stout from Browar Fortuna in the fridge, but don't know if that's in the cards for today - if I'm not back here later, you know I'll be over in WBAYDN...

Here's to new beer in your glass, cheers...

Good morning, NBS. I just finished my week of six consecutive overnights. Later today I'll drive up mom's for belated Thanksgiving. In the meantime, I have a rare free Sunday morning and will be celebrating appropriately.

Weyerbacher Sunday Morning Stout, now on SoCal shelves. Bottled 3/23/18.

Pours opaque black with two fingers of thick, light-brown foam. The head lasts as a creamy cap, but does not leave much lacing.

Smells of fresh dark roast coffee, chocolate, mild blurbon. Nothing burnt or charred.

Tastes of strong, dark coffee, cacao, dark malt. The bourbon flavors are very well-integrated. The flavors all work well together, and the coffee is about perfect for my tastes.

Smooth and rich mouthfeel; little alcohol burn followed by a pleasant warming in the chest.

Overall, I think this is my favorite bourbon + coffee stout I've tried so far. I shall enjoy this 4-pack.

    Cheers!

Jesus H Christ the maple in this one. It really does taste like french toast with a ton of maple syrup poured on top. The good maple syrup, not the shitty artificially-sweetened kind. I detect zero booze in this, so a dangerous one for me. I gotta think the BBA version of this is absolute magic. Thanks again Brian!

Good (still) morning, New BSers! For @Shanex, good prevening! (Prevening = later than afternoon but not quite evening) @lordofthewiens, thanks for today's early start and I'm glad your Thanksgiving went so well. Another typical day here in NW PA - cold but no precipitation although it's threatening, overcast, kind of windy, in general a crappy day best spent indoors.

Today's New Breakfast Beer comes from NBS BIF #8 and @Bum4ever:

Received from @Bum4ever in NBS BIF #8. Reviewed 11/25/18. Thanks Josh!
On back label “Bottling Date 26 Oct 17 Best Before 26 Oct 37, Blend No 54, Season 16/17”. Cork and cage bottle opens with a resounding “POP” and no overflow. Stored at 42 degrees and served at 45 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter.
    Appearance – 4.
Body – Medium yellow, hazy, effervescent.
Head – Average (Maximum 3.5 cm, controlled center pour), off-white, dense, average retention, diminishing to a five to eight mm ring fed by unrelenting effervescence and a complete layer.
    Lacing – None.
    First pour –Light yellow, clear.
Aroma – 3.5 – Very weak, rotting apples.
Flavor – 4.5 – Begins with the tartness of tannic acid from the oak barrels and the fruitiness of the yeast. The acidity is perfect, stopping just short of being vinegar. No hops, no malt, no alcohol (5.5% ABV), no diacetyl, no dimethylsulfide.
Palate – 3 – Thin, watery, lively carbonation.
Impression and interpretation – 4.5 – Although the palate and aroma are very average for a lambic, and the appearance isn’t superlative, the flavor is quite good and works well with the lively carbonation. The acetic acid level is perfect. Overall, a delicious example of a lambic.
    Rating 4.08, rDev -9.5%.

Goose Island Bourbon County Midnight Orange Stout

I think I got the name right on that one. It’s a mouthful.

I hope everyone got some time off this weekend. I’m sure the Eagles will get my blood pressure up this afternoon, but this weekend’s otherwise been a great, much-need break for me.

On Friday morning I went to my local beer distributor hoping to pick up some BCBS. The place still has cases of the 2017, but the owner told me they refused to send him any this year because they found out he sold some early last year.

I left there disappointed, but went straight to a PA brewery’s release that I was even more excited about. While in line, a dude told me about a local place that might still have some bottles of regular BCBS available. I checked it out, and they had all the non-Illinois variants — the first time I had seen anything other than Barleywine.

I was most excited about the Wheatwine, but decided to get a bottle of this (and the others) while I had the chance. Turned out to be a good call in this instance.

Midnight Orange Stout pours a dark brown color with a half-finger of fizzy brown head that’s quick to dissipate into a thin crown. The color has a nice hue to it, but otherwise, it’s pretty sad to look at.

A big blast of orange liqueur shows first in the nose, with chocolate and vanilla-tinted bourbon beneath.

The taste has a delicious mix of that strong candied-orange Grand Marnier and quality chocolate with hints of vanilla, toffee and wood in the background. Nice alcohol burn combines with creamy dark chocolate and orange sweetness in the aftertaste. The orange is certainly sweet, but also has a hint of earthy bitterness to it — like a nice marmalade that just lingers forever.

The beer has a lush, creamy feel with the perfect amount of carbonation to keep it lively.

The orange liqueur explosion in this is fantastic, and pairs very nicely with the chocolate and moderate alcohol heat. If you’re looking for an orange and dark chocolate barrel-aged stout, this is definitely at the top of the class, despite its uninspired appearance. That said, I did pick up a bottle of Free Will’s Chocolate Orange Ralphius on Friday, so who knows how long Midnight Orange’s title will last? Go Birds.
