My goal this year was to expand out of IPAs and stouts, so I'm going for more sour beers when I shop.

This stuff is incredible. Super strawberry tart jam with a nice thick mouthfeel.

The vanilla beans really add a whole different layer to it and make it almost like a smoothie meeting a beer.

Back with a late new beer number 2 for the day. This one is from my first box received in the NBS BIF from @Jimmy_Kneecaps , and its a good one.

    Tailgate Lager.

Cloudy light gold with a substantial head. Light lacing. Attractive.

Lemon. Grass, broad floral aromas. Hits the mark for style.

Nose translates to the tongue. Lemon, fresh grass, light floral character. Lightly toasted cereal. Smooth bitter finish.

    Crisp and bitter.

This is a nice lager that I am glad to have tried and would certainly drink again.

I don’t know if this a new brewery, or just has limited distribution, but this is a very solid beer and I’m surprised mine is only the second of two reviews/ratings.

    Cheers!

    16 oz. can.
Vigorous pour yields a 3/4 inch white head over a golden body with some lacing. Head dissipates down to a thin ring rather quickly. Nose of coffee, vanilla, and milk chocolate. Taste mirrors nose with a lactose feel, and very sweet, sort of like a creamsicle. Overall, another BBCo offering of milk sugar that I still do not love. Oh well, cheers...

Getting in one courtesy of @LloydDobler

Pours a cloudy dark ruby red with two fingers of pink foam.
Smell hit me as soon as I popped the cap. Huge raspberry, as if I just smashed a bushel of fresh ones and stuck my nose in the basket raspberry. Tart, sweet raspberry.
Taste follows pretty closely. Initially it's a blast of sweet raspberry, mid to late palette the tart kicks in, long lingering raspberry aftertaste. Quite jammy!
Medium to full body, a bit syrupy at times. Good carb level.
Overall a wonderful if you like raspberry(I do).

    Good evening NBS
I'm checking in just under the wire with a beer I really wanted to pick up on my way through Indy...
Forgive the crumby picture and improper "glassware." I'm on the road...
    The review:
16oz canned 1/8/19 (82 days ago) poured into a plastic cup at fridge temp 6.5% ABV 20 IBU per brewery. The beer pours bright red tinted dark amber with minimal khaki head. The head recedes to a thin ring and little else. The aroma is Munich malt and light oak smoke. The taste is toasty malt with a sweet and oak smokey interplay that is very complimentary. Little bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation and a dry finish. No off flavors or flaws in the lagering. Overall, very good. This is a very nice bock with a subtle campfire smoke addition.

I'm always excited about a smoke lager and I've been watching the Daredevil website to make sure they still had this one available when I got the chance to drive through. I'm very happy I can pick this up, in my home, state for $12/4 pack. Great beer at a great price.

I have to say I really look forward to NBS each week and @lordofthewiens & @cjgiant openings are part of the fun. You guys took over about the time I decided to stop being a spectator and jump in. It's been a fun two years and plenty of beers. Cheers all!

Having one from across the pond courtesy of a coworker that likes to trade when he comes over.

Pours a lightly hazed golden with two fingers of white head that settled fairly quickly.
Smells of citrus, lots of lime, orange, also getting a good dose of Citra(more so than most of the Swedish IPAs I've had).
Taste is bitter citrus, lime, orange pith, some guava. Getting a flavor that is common among most of the Swedish IPAs I've tried that I can't quite identify. Different breweries, different hop combos but it's there. Not a bad taste, just one I can't identify.
    Medium body, lively carbonation.
Overall a decent representation of an American Pale Ale.

Sure enough the prediction was true. I ended up sampling all four of those goses (with both pronounced like the latter).

From @Dragginballs76 and Westbrook, I tried both the Lemon Cucumber and Key Lime Pie. Also courtesy of Mike I tried Evil Twin's E is for Elderberry, and a South African gose made with sorghum and renosterbos that was a collaboration between Little Wolf and The Stellenbosch Brewing Company.

    Sampled in the above order.

-The Lemon Cucumber poured mostly crisp until the end when it acquired a mildly cloudy tinge to its rich yellow body. A brief fizz of white swelled and receded in a single motion. Galaxy swirl after recession.

-The Sorghum was next, and was immediately much cloudier a concoction right off the bat. More robust head, though still in the fuzzy white vein, stuck around longer than expected as well, but once it started to minimize, it did so with little fuss and quite completely. Wet bubbles rise and release leaving little more than memories.

-The Key Lime Pie was somewhere between the two previous as far as hue and cloud content. Shades to the pale side, but also the clearer side. The head fades quickly and leaves a galactic swirl.

-Unsurprisingly the E is for Elderberry was... easy to pike out of the lineup. Rich watery red like cranberry juice does the same small swell then settle trick, though it seems a little more willing to leave some content on top than the other three.

-The Lemon Cucumber was determinedly lemon at the start. Full lemon profile, leaning towards lemon juice as opposed to sweet lemon or overly acidic. Cucumber helps to mellow out the edges and keep it refreshing and rounded rather than harshly acidic.
-Little Wolf's offering had a really really intriguing bouquet on initially with the tart gose-notes accented by a nectar/floral character that I'm almost certain was the renosterbos. Grainier than expected, which I attribute to the sorghum.
-Key Lime Pie was all oily lime buildup to a smoother lime downslope. Blossoms as it warms. Really pleasant.
-Berry juiciness and dull salinity vie for supremacy on the E.

I quite like the smell of all four. Good start.

-Immediately upon first sip I was really really impressed with the Lemon Cucumber. While the nose was all about the former, the latter leads things off on the tongue. It's like the idealized manifestation of the cliche of the refreshing cucumber. This cool mellow intro leads bridges to a dull lemon haze that runs the rest of the sip. Drinkability is real real good there.

-Unfortunately the interesting nectar like suggestions from the nose didn't really translate and it's more dominated by the sorghum... a dull earthy graininess with maaybe a sweet hint of banana even moreso than the tartness or the salinity, though the latter two do still exist. Not unpleasant, just not as compelling as it could have been.

-Once again Key Lime Pie charts its course between its two predecessors. Bear with me here, but there's two distinct peaks here with a final slope of classic gose saline/tartness. The two peaks are both lime in nature, and similar to the nose it leads with oily tart lime. Then it retracts before impact where the second wave has a brief puckering moment before letting off into the slope mentioned above.

-E is tartly acidic, easily the most sour of the four. The elderberry juiciness continues here offering a nice balance, and making this one almost feel more like a mild fruited sour moreso than a lighter gose, like an APA that's hopped up enough that it's probably really more of a lighter IPA at this point.

I enjoyed all four of them on their own merits, and as points of comparison to one another. The clear winner for me, if there has to be one, was the Lemon Cucumber from Westbrook. It just really nailed all three parts of its name (Lemon Cucumber Gose), drawing the refreshing element out of each and blending them really really well. The E is one I think may have benefited from standing on its own. I dug it, but it was just far enough away from the other three that it felt kind of out of place, while the Key Lime Pie lacked some of the depth (though it was really really good at that one lane to which it committed), and the Sorghum one was interesting but probably the fourth of four if I'm being honest. Still dug it though. Fun fact: renosterbos is used traditionally to treat indigestion and ulcers. Interesting.

They have a blurb on the label talking about the movie's filming in Santa Rosa, too.
