The officials in the the Eagles-Loins game drove me crazy, too many bad calls that helped shape the outcome of the game...anyways finished my chores around the house so time for one more beer. Other Half Nelson Daydream, thanks @CanConPhilly!

That's a lovely looking glass of beer right there!

Thanks for the recommendation! I had seen that place on the map and wasn't sure between it and a distillery. Since I am worried I won't have time for a distillery depending on our schedule that might be perfect.

They do an overview type tour of the distilling process so you’ll be able to get a good sense of that.

Picked this up Friday night. From my state's capitol city, this was very drinkable, but not terribly interesting.

A hazy for people who didn't like IPAs until the hazy style came along. Pretty much every sharp edge this might have had has been sanded off.

Not sure I'll be back with a 4th one today. I may just move on to hard alcohol after watching the Seahawks gift New Orleans with not one, but two TDs, totally negating a great Russell Wilson performance.

Speciation Common Descent (Lemon & Lime). Outstanding Berliner as usual. Poor head retention, and no lacing as expected. Aromas and flavors of big tart/tangy lemons, limes, citrus peel/zest, peach, pear, melon, red/green apple, white grape/wine, peppercorn, mint, hay, straw, and grass; with moderate wheat, cracker, white bready malts; light leathery/musty/lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/lactic tartness, fruit tang, and Brett spiciness on the finish. Medium-plus carbonation, light-medium body, and moderately crisp/clean finishing. Balanced bready/grainy wheat, lactic acid, and fruit tang in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing acidic/tangy fruit dryness; no pucker/astringency. Refreshingly smooth, mellowly lactic, not watery for 3.2%. Fantastic balance of juicy/vibrant citrus and Brett/bacteria complexity; with a great pale/wheat malt backbone against acidity for the ABV. Minimal residual sweetness with crisp dryness. Another easy winner, glad I bought more. 4.15

My first (and possibly only) new beer today is not a Märzen or Oktoberfest, despite the season. It's a regular imperial stout - no barrel aging, no coffee, no maple syrup. Huh, remember those???

Untitled Art / Voodoo Imperial Stout

Of course, it clocks in at 12%, so it's still a beast. Reminds me of the peak of Evil Twin's non-flavored imperial stout production, with a few new massive (>10% ABV) imperial stouts every year. Can it live up to that kind of expectation?

    In a word: yes.

In more words: remember Ten-Fidy? Founders Imperial Stout? This isn't quite on that level, but neither is it very far behind.

Huge, mouth filling body - just a touch too lively, really, with more bite than I'd prefer. You'd never guess this thing is over 9% based on the limited heat; only the thick, chewy body gives away the sky-high ABV.

Flavor and aroma are just swimming in classic American Imperial Stout tones: char, nuts, prunes, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, cola, coffee, grapes, chocolate, cream (all in no particular order). Definitely a bit of sweetness from the massive malt bill, but this isn't a dessert stout by any means.

Wonderful change of pace, and I have absolutely no regrets in picking up a 4 pack.

Left Hand White Russian Nitro Stout, 8.9% ABV. Pours off white, and as the nitro goes to the top it leaves the beer cloudy red with a nice two finger white nitro head. Nose is sweet vanilla, taste is sweet vanilla and coffee, with only slight bitterness. Mouthfeel is smooth. Overall excellent. This is the third white stout I've had, and it was the best.

New Beer Sunday: American Wild Ale

Evenin’ NBSers with an alert for those who can get their hands on Russian River beers.

This evening’s new beer was a birthday gift from my wife and is called Intinction (Sauvignon Blanc). For those who are familiar with Russian River beers as near as I can tell this is the first time this beer has been bottled for distribution.

My review, in progress, can be found here:

    https://www.beeradvocate.com/user/beers/?ba=drtth

The aromas/flavors are filled with white wine grapes and some tartness. There’s also a touch of lemon, some oak, a bit of honey-like malt sweetness and a touch of earthiness from the Brett. Drinkable, enjoyable, complex and delicately flavored this is a beer worth trying if you can find it.

    Cheers, all!

    La Trappe - Quadrupel

I never tried this beer even though it’s a modern classic of style codification... although in this case it’s about the name rather than the liquid. I’m crossing it off the list tonight.

This is a pretty copper beer with a huge tight head. Wow, the banana coming off this thing makes you think that’s it’s a humongous German Weizen Doppelbock. The taste doesn’t really change that, but it complicates it by adding Belgian yeast spiciness, alcohol, and caramel flavor. Rich but finishes dry.

Cycle Trademark Dispute Orange Label. Fantastic as expected. Poor head retention/minimal lacing. Some coconut floaties on the top. Aromas and flavors of huge milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, coconut, caramel, molasses, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, roasted nuts, and dark bread/crust; with lighter notes of licorice, raisin, prune, fig, date, smoke, oak char, leather, tobacco, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast earthiness. Very mild herbal, grassy, roast, charred bitterness; and bourbon/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Light-medium carbonation and super full body; very creamy, silky, velvety malts; light slickness, sticky, chalky roast, and oak tannins in the mouthfeel. Lightly increasing lingering bitter dryness; no cloying, acrid, astringency. Very smooth/soft sipping, mild increasing warmth of 12%, no lingering barrel booze. Fantastic balance between super rich malts, coconut, and bourbon barrel presence/integration; mild earthy hops and fruity yeast. Not overly sweet/heavy from lingering dryness. Another easy winner. Have 1 more from he series, Brown Label/Vanilla. 4.25

    16 oz. can.
    Canned 09/12/19.
Moderate pour yields a one inch light pink head over a dark reddish - purplish body with some lacing. Nose of blueberry and pineapple, in that order. Taste is where the banana comes forward, especially in the mid-palate, with a finish of pineapple. Whoa; wonderful mouthfeel is all banana! Overall, maybe banana is the new lactose?!? I certainly hope so! Cheers!!!

    Good evening NBS
It was new and it was Sunday...
One of these chain brewhouse things opened a couple weeks ago here in town. We went for dinner and I sampled their Octoberfest. It was bright and amber with no head. Not much for aroma. The taste was heavy handed American caramel malt and sticky sweet. Mouthfeel was medium with some off flavors in the aftertaste that had to come from the brewery because I don't think it's possible to foul a tap line in two weeks. Overall, maybe the worst of the 63 Oktoberfest beers I've tried in the last three years.

They claim to brew in five locations and then distribute to their restaurants. Not sure where to enter a review for this beer as BJs is not set up as a brewery. I will enter a place review for the restaurant.

    Cheers all!

Texas is full of German/Czech/Bohemian/Moravian descendants, so Oktoberfest-type celebrations abound around me. There's nothing big locally that I know of.

My New Beer Sunday is dedicated to @TheIPAHunter, who mentioned a certain style of beer last weekend between discussing beer and schooling me on Mac Miller over at the other friendly neighborhood bar WBAYDN. Thanks for the inspiration to finally try one of these suckers!

Why do I feel like posting about 20 House of Pain videos? :stuck_out_tongue:

Call me crazy, but I kinda love this beer. It tastes more or less like a really good American adjunct lager, like a Lone Star or Coors with a few pounds of barley malt added to it. There's still some grain flavor, but the malt is just enough to keep it from tasting like a tortilla chip (Miller High Life). The mouthfeel couldn't get better for the so-called "crushable" beer. Light, crispy, easy to handle but not watery.

I may have to adjust the numbers if and when I try more malt liqours. This one is my first to review, so I've almost no references. Stuck in my memory is downing a forty of Schlitz Malt Liquour Bull (the blue bull) or Old English 800 or St. Ides in college, but ... no ... wait. I remember: It was a quart of Miller High Life that I drank at that softball tournament in Lufkin in 1994. Not malt liquor.

Anyways ...:rolling_eyes::rolling_eyes: Sorry for the digression. Mickey's is good. Try some sometime.

    Cheers!

Pale straw yellow body; thick and frothy head, a bit creamy. Grassy and light malt grain aroma; soft biscuit; mildly floral and fruity. Soft toasty grain base infused with some low-key hop bitterness; light bread crust; clean tasting. Light body; crisp; a bit warm; light dryness on the palate.

This is a wonderfully light and delicate lager. It brings some delicate yet balanced and nuanced flavors and feel to the senses. Very enjoyable.

Had a decent meal this evening, trying a pork and green chili chili recipe. The spiciness and vegetables were spot on, just need to try the dish with shredded pork instead of chunks of pork.

And a decent day of pro football. Nice seeing the Browns being somewhat competitive...
