Should be a good World Series. I'll be rooting for those first-timers, the Nationals.
I picked up a six pack yesterday and saw that I had never reviewed this beer.
The beer is a clear gold color with a small, quickly disappearing white head.
    Sweet malt aroma, outdoorsy.
Caramel taste up front, late grassy hops.
    Sweet in the mouth, easy-drinking.

NBS for me. A Weldwerks/Trilha (Brazilian brewery) collaboration.
Points of Light Hazy IPA (7.1%) - Need a spoiler? If you like slightly creamy/sweet juicy IPAs, this is totally your bag.

A - The looks give it away, probably a little hidden lactose in this bad boy but an interesting hop mix here of Citra and some usuals, along with two experimental hops. Lacing, but not much head on this. Interesting.
Aroma - Great stuff in the nose; citric-tropical aromas, a little floral, and you can almost smell the creamy sweetness on this. Not sure it's my favorite from them, but leaves an impression.
T - Solid, full, creamy-juicy palate impression full of tangerines, grass, papaya, and some dank pineapple to boot. But not as layered as some of their Juicy Bits offerings. Almost TOO much going on here, but crammed full, rather than layered.
M - Great carbonation as usual, but finishes almost on the verge of being an imperial sweet hazy.
O - A great beer, and a great collaboration, that may not be for everyone but seek it out if you can.
    Cheers!

[IMG] Basic Betty Artisan Ales. Poured into a 16 oz stem less tulip glass not sure when it was bottled but I have others say September 5, whatever a BIG Pumpkin Stout that pours a midnight black on a cloudy evening. A big mocha head that settles rather quickly and leaves little lace, but leaves a thin mocha ring of bubbles around the sides of the glass. 4.5

Smell is pumpkin, clove, nutmeg, cinnamon, expresso, vanilla, and a little alcohol for sure, but not over the top. 4.5

Taste follows pumpkin is a big part of it, but nutmeg, clove, brown sugar, cinnamon, with some coffee, vanilla, and warming alcohol in the bold finish, holy cow it is excellent if you enjoy a bold stout this is one. 4.5

Mouthfeel is big but slightly watery because of the moderate carbonation, creamy but chewy also, and at 11% it drinks maybe even bigger in flavor for sure. 4.75

Overall this is an amazing stout and a first class Pumpkin Beer. Highly recommend. 4.5

Good morning, NBS friends and family! The Hints and Hauls thread is in full swing, with a small but very solid group of familiar participants. Cheers to the Astros, who as the best team in baseball this year are fully deserving of a World (World's, technically) Series berth. Good luck to the Nationals, making the first trip in franchise history (including the Montreal Expos). The one thing I know: this features the most exciting set of opposing starting pitchers I can recall .... well, ever, in a World Series. Absolutely unreal, and as a lover of great pitching, this could be tremendous.

My first beer today is a style that certainly hails from the traditionalist camp, yet is not fully embraced, understood, or even known of by the casual fan .... so, perhaps a La Russa suicide squeeze, or an NFL drop kick. On a New Beer Sunday where I only have two new beers I'm expecting to get to, I'm starting off with none other than Drie Fonteinen.

    2018 Oude Kriek

First off, I'm a sucker for cherries and, therefore, Kriek. While I spend a good portion of my review highlighting the difference between this Oude Kriek - which is a very, very traditional aged Lambic that happens to be rested on cherries - and many other varieties of Kriek Lambic - often with sweet cherry syrup, and in particular with American versions, with souring bacteria added for extra punch a la kettle sours - I do in fact like all kinds of Kriek/cherry beers. So, if my review makes it sound like I am denigrating a sweeter approach to a Kriek Lambic/cherry sour, that's not really the case.

That difference is, however, quite noticeable - and notable. While the cherry addition hides 3F's particularly strong funk on the nose (blending in more with tart, sour notes), there's no disguising it on the palate. This is every bit the straightforward Lambic as their Oude Gueze, simply with wonderfully natural cherry tones and consequently more sharp sourness.

This is a deep, rewarding brew, worthy of taking your time to fully appreciate. A lively sting combined with puckering sourness makes it difficult to savor each sip for particularly long, but it has a gum-clinging finish - and as it warms, it becomes easier to savor (or perhaps I'm just growing more accustomed to the sourness).

I haven’t been over in this neck of the woods in awhile, but it’s good to be back. For your reading pleasure today I have this tree house offering from @brutalfarce that I am drinking to forget how badly my Braves played in game 5 vs the red birds.

    in perpetuity

a side note before I begin, I really love the idea behind this as I believe it is a beer the head brewer at TH brewed to commemorate his first wedding anniversary. Bill also sent me beneficiaries of chance (to commemorate the wedding day) and brighter than starlight (for the 5th anniversary). Hopefully I’m right about all these things, if not I’m sure someone will correct me. Enough rambling, get to the beer dude.

appearance is pretty standard tree house haze with good carbonation. Aroma is citrus, and some dank ness. The taste is some orange, citrus zest, earthy hops, and a little Dankness rounding it out. Mouthfeel is also amazing, as per usual tree house. Creamy, slick, medium, but also a little light. Not thin, just very easy drinking with adequate carbonation. Overall this is very good, I’m in the 4.25 range

American Brown Ale on a hand pump at Trap Rock Brewery Restaurant in Berkley Heights NJ. Trap Rock is a white table cloth restaurant that brews it's own beer. The brewer does not try to brew the latest and the greatest. He brews traditional beer to style and they are all very good or excellent. They 8 taps and a hand pump. I've had this beer there in the past on tap but was the 1st time on the hand pump. This is not a cask conditioned ale but very different than the beer on tap. This ABA is a deep dark brown color with a thick tan long lasting head and is served slightly cool. Nice roasted malt aroma. The taste is also malt with traces of caramel with a small amount of hop bitterness. The mouthfeel is full but soft. The finish is off dry and slightly bitter. Excellent beer. I had a 2ond pint along with a 8 OZ glass from a tap. That is a fine brew also but side by side I'll take the hand pump.

So I asked the owner of our best local what is this and he said donno, just wanted to offer my customers a cream ale . . .

Clear rich copper gold color with good cap and lace.

Mild aroma of caramel with a touch of sweetness.

Taste is caramel malt with a twinge of roasted malt that gives it just a bit of an edge. Hop level is low to barely noticeable. The sweetness isn't much and does fade by mid palate while the whole finishes dry.

This was out of a nitro draught can and I don't know what the texture is supposed to be but it struck me as light to light medium with balancing carbonation.

Overall it's light and refreshing. More of a poolside or beach beer.

He’s never going to be a high BA guy, he strikes out too much, but the Phillies problems are pitching. Even Nola whos the best of the bunch might be a 2/3 on a team like Houston or the Nats. Pitching wins in the post season, Nats have a good shot with their pitching staff. I hope they win, nothing like a WS Champ in your division to ratchet up the pressure to accelerate.

I go years without picking up one of these, and, when I do, slap myself for neglecting it. This is an unmolested 2018 33cL bottle.
Tan head for days, reddish brown color. I could smell the stone fruit and caramel as soon as I popped the cap. So many stone fruit and spice flavors which continue to develop as the glass warms. Smooth coating feel with a little spicy kick in the finish. No alcohol heat.

Drake's -- The Void - Aged In Sherry Barrels

    4.17/5 rDev 0%
    look: 3 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4

Deep dark color, opaque brown; no head. Aroma infused with notes of roasted grain, dry oak, sherry. Sweetly rich flavors; sweet chocolate and cocoa; raisins and dates; dry sherry and light red wine; vanilla; a bit boozy. Heavy body; oily and sludgy; tons of residual sugars; primarily sweet overall with a mild boozy dryness.

This beer deftly melds a robust imperial stout with the subtle tastes of sherry through its barrel aging. At 14.1% ABV, one wouldn't expect much of a head, but other than some initial fizziness, there is nothing, so points off for that. But otherwise, the smell, taste, and mouthfeel are rather spectacular for the style and sherry barrel aging.

Marriage is about teamwork, but sometimes my dear, sweet Mrs. Goot drives me to drink...

We're hosting our neighborhood annual chili cook-off (which we've done for about the last 15 years or so), and, sparing you the details, it seems everything from how I'm cooking our chili entry (everything from ingredients to what pots and slow cookers I'm using) just isn't right. Plus she's all wound up about every little detail about number of tables and chairs to the cool, windy weather. Sheesh...

I figure everything will work out fine. The key is not to over-think or over-plan for things. Don't sweat the details. We'll adapt as necessary and everyone (including us) will have a great time and enjoy some excellent chili dishes and good company.

But, the build up, as I've alluded to, has been somewhat testy. Lucky for my, she got a call from a friend needing an airport pickup, so she's gone to rescue her friend while Rocket the Wonder Dog and I peacefully work on the last minute details of event setup (which doesn't really amount to anything. But it does provide an opportunity to front-load...and catch a little Raiders / Packers football before show time...

    Ah, sweet relief...

    Synopsis:
A super-jammy, super-sour beer. If the goal was to have this beer drink like liquified raspberry jam, it delivers. The beer has its faults, as the carb is barely there, and it drinks like a still beer. But the nose/taste is so good it doesn’t really bother me. Acidic and tart, just like I like em. I look forward to trying other Ology beers. Thanks again Jordan!

I have a conflicted feeling toward the Nationals. I was pulling for them in the NLCS because they have never been to the World Series, and because of the history of Washington in MLB related to the Minnesota Twins.

OTOH, I view them negatively because their front office squandered their first opportunity to reach the World Series with a completely stupid (IMO) decision to shut down Stephen Strasburg in his second season back from Tommy John when he was having a MLB-leading season in pitching measures, to "save" him, even including the playoffs, thinking they would have plenty of future opportunities. Such ignorance of how MLB works cannot be forgiven, IMO. Washington lost in the NLDS to the St. Louis Cardinals in 5 games.

Washington MLB franchises have an interesting history.

The original Washington Statesmen / Senators were contracted by the National League in 1899.

The next Washington Senators were established in 1901 with the American League. They moved to Minnesota in 1961 to become the Twins.

After that, a new Washington Senators expansion team was established in 1961 by the American league. They ended up moving to Texas to become the Texas Rangers in 1972.

The attempt to contract the Montreal Expos, now the Washington Nationals, also involved an attempt to contract the Minnesota Twins, an act which resulted in Carl Pohlad (Twins owner - who saw the scheme as a way to "sell" the team at a profit), and his co-conspirator, the Pretend Commissioner Bud Selig (who's motives were significantly in question at the time due to his ownership - carefully skirted technically - of the Milwaukee Brewers) being forever reviled in the minds of Minnesota baseball fans.

But, having the 3 Washington franchises involved in contraction, one actual completed contraction and as both teams in an attempted contraction, is certainly odd history.

Anyhow, good luck to the Nationals. But I'll be hoping the Astros win.

Back in a few with a beer.
