Late to the party as usual but not as late as usual. I have a brewery fresh Hefeweizen, Easy Company Hefeweizen from Bravo Brewing Company of scenic Pascoag R.I.

    Prost.

A stern pour from a 16-oz. can into a 20-oz. mug yielded a finger of soapy white foam with above average retention and irregular spots of lacing. Very cloudy straw color, I can barely see my finger through it.

Banana, clove, toasted wheat bread and Wheat Thins greet the nose. There's a faint lemon smell and faint floral hops.

The taste is semi-dry with moderate bitterness, wheaty malt is bold and in control. The clove is now more of a general baking spice taste, a light and un-sweetened juiciness (apple and citrus featuring lemon) tries to make it sweet.
Bitterness builds to above average as it dries a bit at the quick and clean finish. Spicy bitterness lingers a while.

Medium-light bodied and well carbonated, smooth and very balanced. I hint of yeast is noticeable, alcohol is well hidden.
A brewery fresh Hefe, traditional and true to style.

Well, I said that I wanted to return to offer my take on the "sequel" to my first beer, and here I am. I'm writing this after two and a half snifter pours, so hopefully I can give this review the respect it deserves. Double Smack by Three Taverns is the amped up version of their Morning Smack. It's a barrel-aged imperial pastry stout that gives you a taste of a well rounded breakfast: maple, coffee, banana, and bacon. Everything that was present in Morning Smack is here again with some delightful additions as well. This version is just as well balanced as the earlier version, but just pushed to the maximum. There is simply more of everything: more adjunct flavor, more sweetness, and more ABV. The biggest difference in Double Smack is of course the bourbon, and who doesn't love bourbon? Maple? Age in in bourbon barrels. Coffee? Add a shot of bourbon. Banana? Dip it bourbon and set it on fire. Of course, bacon and bourbon is already a match made in heaven. The one thing I didn't see coming was the big roasty flavor of the malt added notes of chocolate to Double Smack that was not as noticeable in Morning Smack. Quite simply, this is one of my favorite breakfast stouts that I've had. Thanks again to @ATLien for giving me the chance to enjoy these consecutively. :beers:

Look - Pours an oily jet black with some visible viscosity. A thin tan head lasts only moments before dissipating.
Smell - Bourbon, roasty malt reminiscent of chocolate, maple, coffee, and fleeting banana.
Taste - Bourbon and maple interplay first and is followed by the coffee and banana, smoke and barrel finish off the sip.
Feel - Oil slick with a medium-full body.
Overall - There is a lot happening in here flavor-wise. Everything is dialed up from the non-BA version, including the sweetness and abv. A well executed BA imperial stout with a balance of flavor that is no small feat with so many adjuncts at play.

    Hello New Beer Sunday!!!

Back home from a day trip to freedom-land... I mean western Iowa. We picked up a ton of beer today. Here's the haul:
Not bad for 2 people. I was afraid our Governor would call out the National Guard to stop us from bringing all this beer back to Minnesota.

We had one hell of a good time at West O Beer in West Okoboji, Iowa, and the beer was amazing. It was his first time there, and my 3rd time. Fun as heck. We then stopped at Lost Sanity Brewing back here in Minnesota, and that was also a blast. First time for either of us, but won't be the last.

Now on to the new beer:
Saturday Morning from Backpocket Brewing. It is a grape and blueberry smoothie sour.
Not much sour about it, though a hint of that. It is a smooth drinking, creamy beer, and it went down stupid fast.

    Review:

    look: 4.25 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

Pours a nice purple color. 3 finger purple/white head. Head retention is decent. There's some lacing on the glass.
The nose has a nice grape aroma, that is backed up with a hint of blueberry. Grape is the dominant aroma.
Taste - Well, the blueberry is more up front with a finish of the grape. Slightly sour up front, but moves into a sweeter flavor on the back.
Smooth, and creamy feeling. Decent body. Not thin at all.
Tasty, and refreshing on a hot day.

And that will be my last new beer of the day. I am having a 6 Foot 6 from West O Beer at the moment, but I think I've had it before.

    Cheers!

We give fish oil supplements to one of our dogs to help with her skin and joint health. We've noticed a real improvements in her itchiness. She's also an older pup, and it seems to keep her agility in tact.

A moderate pour released a finger of soapy white foam with average retention and no lacing.
A clear golden straw body appears orange-amber in front of light.

Subtle smell of toasted wheat and caramel (Crystal?) malt, faint herbal hops and a general graininess.

Neutral on sweetness with moderate bitterness, sweet malt and hop bitterness are well balanced. Pale barley malt is noticeable as baked bread. Hiding in the background are under ripe white grapes and pears. The finish is quick with a slight astringency, The aftertaste lingers on bitter and dry.

Medium-light body, averagely abundant carbonation. Soft and smooth, session-able and summer-able.
Striking looks with an un-complicated taste. I can read small sized print through it. True to style, highly recommended.

Some thoughts and maybe I am crazy, picky or both, you guys can decide. The title of this thread is "New Beer Sunday Wk whatever. To me it could be tweaked.

Unless I opened the beer on a previous day every beer I open on a Sunday is a new beer. Should it be changed to something along the lines of - " My first time having this beer", or "A Beer I have never had before".

Shortly I am going to go open a new Central Waters Salted Maple Stout. I have had it before but it will be a new can !

Evening all - back with at least one more this evening. Black is Beautiful from Noon Whistle Brewing. For their version they added blackberries to the stout.
Pours a lovely shiny dark black color - completely opaque and viscous. Thin dark brown head dissipates but not completely as a thin film is left on top of the beer. Aroma has notes of roasted charred malts, tobacco, and a tart berry fruitiness.

Taste profile is interesting. Initially there is a fleeting moment of charred malts, tobacco and ash that quickly is taken over by a tart berry note. Not jammy - its more like fresh tart berries in the beer. As that settles down, you get that charred malt coming back into view and then you get some nice piney hops on the finish. Feel is thick, viscous, with a moderate, smooth carbonation.

Overall a really nice stout and a flavorful twist from Noon Whistle.

Beautiful photo! I want to drink that beer! Or at least sit there & admire it, as the sun sets. :+1::slight_smile:

The guys from Sam The Beer Man made a trip to Fifth Hammer (& Finback) Friday, & brought back a sh*+load of new-to-me(us) beers. That presented a conundrum* : where to start**? While pondering that perplexing question, the thought occurred : *WWtIPAHD?
A: Hunter would go for the Nelson! Problem solved!
    Tonight's 2nd NBS brew : Functional Modern , a 7.5% EIPA, with Nelson Sauvin,Citra, & Moteuka.
Pours hazy orangey-gold,with light off-white creamy head.

Smells of orange, peach, coconut (slight), a vague tropical fruit mix ,white grape, and a light creaminess, as if it has lactose. No mention of lactose, so probably malt. A strong smell of unripe peach (pit) from the pen can, but not the glass.

Taste is slightly unripe peach, bitter orange (Citrus aurantica) , a hint of sweet grapefruit, a melange of pear/white grape/honeydew, but mostly it's a modified, more bitter Fuzzy Navel .(I do like that taste profile.) Moderate pleasant bitterness, that is on the more bitter (& better,IMHO) side of the NEIPA spectrum. :+1:

Overall, though nothing special in the current NEIPA world, it is well-done, and thoroughly enjoyable. Until a few months ago, I lived within walking distance of Beer Tree Brew Co., so may have become spoiled/jaded, but this one still got my attention. Very reminiscent of some of the better BTBC beers.
I didn't officially review this yet, 'cause sometimes you just-wanna-drink-the-damn-beer, but I'd put this in the 4.15-4.25 range:clap::clap::clap::clap:

    * What Would the @TheIPAHunter Do?
** Not sure if it's actually possible, but I may have too much beer. The recent heat/humidity has led to a certain level of exhaustion, that occasionally leads me to fall asleep with no beer imbibed for that evening!:open_mouth: I still see many wonderful brews out there, so can't resist bringing them home, but don't always get so far as to drinking them, thus the current surplus of enticing, but not-quite-enticing-enough options.:grin:

Earlier, B-43 , from Old Nation, the brut version of M-43 (which I've not had .)
Overall, I really liked it. :+1:
Short version : more complex in aroma & taste, & less-carbonated, than Ommegang's Brut IPA, but very similar. :+1:

Would you mostly be using it for itching/coat issues? Or joint health? We have another older dog that doesn't have any issues with his coat, but his joints definitely slow him down sometimes. He's also on a restricted diet due to recurring bladder stones. Our vet recommended giving him a supplement called Dasuquin for him. He still has good and bad days, but it seems to help smooth out his peaks and valleys a bit. It's not exactly cheap, but it's only and every other day treatment once he's built some up in his system.

    Hello Late Night NBS...
Well a few months back I found a mystery beer from the esteemed @akatz821 in the back of my deli drawer in the fridge. This was one of his many rounds that crushed my porch in NBS BIF #9 Nein.
So Poured it into my new Tired Hands Tuku courtesy of our very own @larryi86 in NBS BIF #11 (yes, it goes to 11- and soon to be 12).
I thought it was going to be a sour, so I didn't pour any for the wife...well if it is a sour, it is the most profoundly dark sour the world has ever seen. And the hint on the sophisticated brown paper bag wrapper says, "joker spice," and "45-60 degrees" temperature.

    Here we go....
As I stated, dark brown, like deepest mahogany. Less than an inch in dense foam rises and slowly settles a most elegant mocha colored ring. An island of bubbles in the middle reminds me of an attempted homage to Crater Lake, Oregon. Almost like a kids geography project cum baking soda/vinegar volcano. It has this tiny dark pool in the middle that keeps pulsing with a new stream of bubbles. Like a mini Old Faithful without the gusher (more of a bubbler).

Smell is roasted malt along the line of dark brown bread. There is a gentle warm spice note that I am trying to nail down. Nuanced undertones of dark fruit, maybe apple peal.

Taste really pulls me in. At first, a mildly roasted malt. But then, a subtle deep blend of fig, date, cinnamon, and mild pepper. But there is a hint of what I'm getting as apple and pear.

Mouthfeel is medium to full, but not chewy. A mildly warming alcohol heat comes through from right from the start. But it's subtle, and holds everything together. Slight carbonation stays throughout.

    What is it?

Ok. So I missed the coffee, but caught some roast. And after all of this, I forgot to give my guess. I was thinking some kind of Imperial stout (although a tad thin on mouthfeel for that), or maybe a mild Belgian quad with some roasted barrel notes.

The reveal... Sunday Mole Stout by Weyerbacher. Now I get the Joker reference. Thanks @akatz821 I see you haven't been active in a while. Hope you see this and say hello.
