    Happy 4th all!
For this auspicious occasion I pulled out GI Anniversary from 2020. Sent to me as a kindness by @FBarber who heard I missed it by 2 people in line.
And wow, what a beer. I’ll have to review it later as I just drank it and can’t think straight. Thank goodness for spellcheck. Or curse it, depending how this comes out.
    Thanks Frank!

I started the day with a High Life and my current choice is a subversive one - an English Christmas ale… which seems like a perfectly inappropriate choice for this holiday. :beers:

What a great end to the long weekend here. Easy day with some morning weed whacking, burgers and dogs for whoever showed up. Grandson ran in the house asking Nana to "slap some ketchup on that puppy"...

    The weekend ender:

Flummox- a pilsner from Proclamation Ales. According to the sarcasm on the can, they basically make this beer because they feel like it since you can't drink 11% abv fruity gloopy beers all the time. Well, good for them, says me.

Pours a clear golden color with an inch and a half of white foam that falls fairly quickly to a cap replenished by a stream of bubbles from the bottom. There's a little bit of lacing.

Smells of sweet malt that is bready and cracker-like. Nobly hops ride above that, earthy and a little green grass/herbal. Slight lemony aroma and a bit of peppery spice. Simple but effective.

The taste is a bit malt heavy and a tad bit sweet with a little lemony citrus. As it goes down, there's a nice hit of hops. Earth, grassy/herbal, and a tingly hit of peppery spice. A bit of doughy malt carries thru in the finish.

Body is light bordering medium, moderately carbonated. It's on the dry side with minimal bitterness and just enough of the peppery spice to balance out the malt and sweetness, but barely.

Ok...so for me right now this beer is hitting the right notes and of course that is subjective. Is this the epitome of the pilsner style - no, but I do think it is more than adequately in the ballpark. It's probably a little malt forward, but it tastes fine and fits the bill for an easy drinking good old beer that I don't need to think about or unravel. Score...hmmm... thinking 3.8 or so trying to keep subjective influences at bay.

“Slap some ketchup on that puppy” is now my new tag line for ….. everything.

I’m getting t-shirts made up first thing in the morning.

    Hefe & Wedge
    [IMG]
    5% Hefeweizen by Wolfs Ridge

Pours a hazy gold with not much head. Little lacing throughout the tasting.

Nose is traditional Hefeweizen with more banana than clove but neither is overdone.

The taste features banana and clove as expected. The added orange is present but serves more to soften/merge the banana. That combination is nice. The finish has a brief astringency, an odd bitterness, that is off putting. From the orange?

Mouthfeel is fair and carbonation a little lacking.

Interesting premise that falls short for me.

Jeez. Wrong thread. Sorry - nothing to see here. I love the WBAYDN misposts, and it was only a matter of time til I fell victim.

    12 ounce can.
    Canned 5/12/22.

Moderate pour yields a 3/4 inch white head over a hazy light copper colored body with lacing.

Nose of citrus and slight tropical fruit.

Taste mirrors nose pretty well with the tropical fruit coming forward a bit.
Finish is tropical fruit and very slight citrus pith.

    Normal Switchback medium mouthfeel.

Overall, a fine replacement for their Switchback IPA (Green can.)

    Cheers!

    Thanks! :beers:

And, I have had Lablatt Blue, but that was also 40+ years ago, like with the Bud. So, I can't really comment about how it would compare.

D9 - Whiskers on Kittens, another from @superspak

Light golden, moderate to light haziness, small short-lived head. Smell is tart, lemony, light funk.

Taste is clear kettle sour flavor, tart and acidic, lemons, maybe a stone fruit vibe.

Mouthfeel is light and dry. Overall, it's not bad, but the other D9 was better.

Great Notion - Freshly Sliced with kiwi, strawberry, mango, and pineapple

Pours murky peach with no head. Smell is very mild, all I get is a whiff of strawberry.

Taste is mildly tart and very juicy. Tastes like a tropical fruit punch, which is no surprise based on the description.

Mouthfeel is just on the thick and pulpy side. Tasty, if you're looking for something juicy.

I think I'm getting a hat trick again, though not all the same brewery.

    Bicycle Day from Great Notion.

Pours murky green with a small head that fades to a light dusting. Smell is tart and vaguely fruity. Kind of a canned peach aroma. Lime, though that might be my eyes deceiving me.

Taste is very peachy, tart and sweet. A little hint of kettle-sour.

Mouthfeel is on the chewy side of medium. Overall, pretty good.
