Meant to post this a while ago, but things kind of stopped with everything on MNF ...

Next up is the "OG" Krampus: Old Irving Brewing Co. - Barrel Aged Krampus Cookies. The 2020 version is an Imperial Milk Stout aged in Heaven Hill, Four Roses, & Old Elk Bourbon Barrel-Aged with vanilla and cocoa nibs.

Pours pitch black, oily and viscous. Fleeting, fizzy mocha colored head appears when the beer is poured but quickly disappears. No residual head remains. Aroma has notes of chocolate, vanilla, cream, bourbon and oak. On the nose this is sweet, but it does not feel overly sweet - just more of a dessert beer.

Taste follows the nose with notes of chocolate, vanilla, cocoa, maple, oak, bourbon and sweet cream. The barrel is well integrated and balanced. It is sweet, but I personally felt like it avoided being too sweet. Feel is medium to full bodied. Smooth. Moderate carbonation with a slight sprightliness. Dry finish.

Overall a lovely barrel aged sweet stout. Very enjoyable sipper. Will continue to enjoy this one in years to come.

This collaboration has been released annually for the past three years (and another favorite called Base, which was a WCIPA for two, dropped off this year), and I wasn't as big fan of the "West Coast Pilsner" they replaced it with.

Back to Maintains and Shapes, I scored this beer very high the first time I tried it, and bought it at every release. I tried one from the batch you reviewed two weeks ago it has dropped off in terms of sharpness and crispness. It is still an enjoyable beer at this point, but you may want to revisit your review if you get a shot at a fresh can or draft pour next year. I'd rate it at a 3.5 or 3.75 at six months old vs. the 4.5 fresh review from 2020. The 2022 fresh cans were relatively consistent with the OG batches.

Looks like an excited packed house! Where is this, and who did you see?
