Alright the home alone NBS entries continues; laundry folded, food prep done, dog walked, @Coronaeus I have your Habs on in the other room and now another @snaotheus beer...this one a hefeweizen from Heater Allen.

Heater Allen - Isarweizen (Hefeweizen 4.6%)

Pours as a hefeweizen should, a cloudy darker straw color; vigorous carbonation that creates a quick rising white head, super fluffy spongy, leaves some nice initial lacing but not much after that.

Nose is all you'd want in a hefe; yeasty esters; this one is spice heavy; clove; and less banana/bubble gum, the aroma has a bread like characteristic to it like spiced banana bread, there is a little bit of yeastiness if you look for it; I would describe this nose as pleasantly aromatic, makes you want to keep smelling it.

The taste in this case confirms the nose; a spice leaning bread like hefeweizen with banana in the foreground; this beer leaves an amazing aftertaste, very pleasant.

Light body, very soft and on the palette, leaves a very low but noticeable residual sweetness on the tongue...this pairs very nicely with the flavor of this beer; an incredibly low bitterness, but it is there.

This is a top notch hefeweizen in my opinion...it is very balanced, the flavors are very good and it has a perfect mouthfeel for the style. I'm glad to have tried this beer, thank you to "the beer whisperer" @snaotheus

This may be my last new beer of the day, I haven’t decided yet…I will quote my favorite movie…

“I will see you there, or I will see you on another time!”

In case have a great week everyone, enjoy whatever is in your glass tonight. Cheers everyone!

PS @SABERG I thought you may like our chalkboard…this has been up for the past few weeks…

Hitting the Big 5-0 towards the end of the month, myself. I suppose I need to start strategizing over what beer to drink.

I’m hoping you bring the Habs some good luck. I watched the first full game of the year of my Chargers last night. I think I’m bad luck…

    Greetings, fellow NBWers,

39°, gray and sporadically rainy right here in River City. Still some snow and ice around town but it's getting less dominant, except for places the sunlight doesn't get to much (like, say, the parking lot at my building). Downside is that the melting does often freeze up at night, creating new and exciting pockets of black ice and suddenly unreliable sidewalks.

Yesterday, I watched the Seahawks hang in there with the 49ers for a half, then surrender to the inevitable. I went in with the attitude that any postseason play was just gravy on top of a much better year than anyone expected, but I won't lie. At halftime, I felt like they might actually win it. Much as I disdained losing to a division rival, my hats off to the Niners for having a hell of a team this year that seems to be able to function almost flawlessly with whoever the hell is behind center. My fuel of choice during the game were a couple of local IPAs, as I wanted to drink Washington beers as my wholly imaginary form of supporting my team. Last night, though, I hit a hazy from @Roguer:
    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/28743/541512/?ba=woemad#lists
Initially, I wasn't too impressed, as it seemed very bitter and astringent without offering a lot of nuance, but as it warmed up it became more complex and approachable. Still very assertively citrusy for the most part.

Hitting another from Tree House now.

This one is considerably more rounded, but kinda ugly to my WCIPA-accustomed eyes. Very drinkable stuff, though, and with nary a hint of it's fairly high abv. I suspect I would drink several if local and on tap, and then perhaps marvel at how compromised I had become afterwards!

    Thanks, Andrew!

Probably no more new beers today, as I'm thinking of journeying to a local brewery for an item to go into a box, but stranger things have happened.

    Cheers!

4 Hands Brewing Absence of Light Fat Elvis Peanut Butter, Banana & Chocolate Milk Stout, 6.5% ABV; 3.52 overall

Pours Chestnut with one finger of Mocha colored head. Pretty good head retention & lacing

S: Peanuts, marshmallow, artificial banana smells

T: Pretty much follows the nose, pretty darn dry, some cocoa notes up front. A touch of iron & roastyness as this beer warms up, still some faux peanut & banana flavor, but kind of dissipates. Finishes dry & a little nutty with some fake aforementioned "flavors"

    MF: Medium body, moderate carbonation

None of these "peanut" Absence of Lights have really worked for me. Not bad, just not that good

And I will at the end of June. I know my BIL was totally shocked by it. He just expected immediate family there - me, my mom, his dad, mom and step-mom, brother (and his gf), sister, and her youngest daughter there. There was a good 30 people there for it. I also may have tried to be a match maker between my nephew and his girlfriend from when they were toddlers. They would make a cute couple now they're grown up. Hope they consider it. I'd gladly be her uncle also.

Now to another beer, and it's again to @Beersnake1 . It's also, well, from a country that's hard to get a beer from.

Urbock - Camelthorn Brewing - Namibia (Africa) - 7% ABV

Yeah, this is a tasty beer from a place one wouldn't expect. Packed with a lot of flavor. Considering the German influence on the nation over a century ago, some of it must have rubbed off on this beer. Very delicious. Thank you Tim for getting me my first beer from Africa. It is delicious!

Faint hint of CO2 smoke on the opening. Amberish pour with a 1 12 finger off white head. The bubbles are very small looking, and the head looks cloud like. Retention is decent. There's a bit of lacing as the head dissipates, but minimal. Not seeing any carbonation rising in the glass when I hold it up to the light.
Hits of cola as I move the glass past my nose. Up close I get some caramel, and bread/biscuit malts. Aroma isn't very strong.
Taste - Caramel seems to start off the show for me. I get some dark fruit hitting in this beer, lots of plum, and raisin. I get a nutty flavor that comes in as well.
The body is lighter, but not watery in the least. No feeling of carbonation in my throat. No alcohol burn, though, that wasn't expected. Very smooth feeling.
Tasty, and very easy drinking beer. Would gladly drink again if given the chance.

I'd wager I am done this weekend. I also think I'll be out of the loop next weekend considering it's the St. Cloud Craft Beer tour next Saturday. Unless I can pop off a quick review there, I can't see myself being able to drink at all Sunday. Cheers till we next meet again.

I think my car is back in working order, after a few radiator blowouts gave me the hint that the shoulder at the end of the neck of the inlet had broken off (surprisingly cleanly), leaving little to hold the hose in place. I don't have a ton of car repair experience, so it was a bit of an adventure to replace the whole goddamn radiator...because a quarter inch of a plastic pipe broke off. Nice to have my car back, though. Despite ~50 miles of test driving without an explosion, I'm still nervous.

Chela Chido Negra from Goldfinger. Once again, thanks to @FBarber.

Pours a dark amber, clear, with a big head that collapses to a thin skin that leaves heavy lacing up the side of the glass. Smell is rich funky bread, a little bit of honey or honeysuckle, maybe a hint of nuttiness, slight earthiness.

Taste is similar, but a bit dryer than the aroma suggested. Funky yeast is a bit stronger, definitely earthy. Sweetness is grainier, doesn't have much of the honey hint that I got from the smell, either.

Mouthfeel is moderately light. Overall, nice, satisfying lager.

Day 2, just a single tonight from an iconic brewery that I love. This beer is part of a variety pack that plays off of the brewery’s flagship beer (and arguably one of the most popular beers in our beer nerd world).

Let’s see how this imperial IPA does.

Pours a beautiful golden copper color that is nearly clear and props up a dense off white head that is positively clingy. Gorgeous beer.

The nose has some grapefruit notes and a lot of berry aromas. I am searching for some pine, ala Two Hearted and Double Two Hearted, but there’s none to be found.

The grapefruit flavor is forward on the taste, with a significant berry flavor following, and a decided lack of malt - but there is a little warming alcohol presence.

The mouthfeel is full and coats the tongue. This is by no means a “bad” beer, but a beer from Bell’s that carries the Hearted moniker has very high expectations from me, and that lack of malt and the relatively low bitterness leaves me wanting more from this beer.

16oz can canned ?/14/22 into a pint glass.
L: Pours med hazed light apricot w a 1.5" off white head w VG retention w a small cap, low carbo, clingy lacing w very rhythmic banding and light sheeting.
S: Lightly tropical, orange, lemon, general citrus, a hint of caramel malts, slightly earthy but not funky or dank.
T: Zest of lemon/lime, grapefruit, melon rind, lightly sweet malts, quite resinous w citrus, melon and pine resin, lightly sharp overall. Zeros in on rind, zest, and is quite pale.
F: A bit juicy & wet, med to med-lite bodied w a dry & soft finish that has a long linger. Lightly chalky. It is almost parching.
O: This lovely beer has a very dry finish due to its firmly dosed amt of lemon/citrus zest. Pine resin also finds a home in this semi-juicy tart drop. Quite refreshing and it is excellent in its style.

Damn that is impressive, your replaced the whole thing? You deserve a beer, or two, or three, or…

Only thing I ever have done is replace the battery and filters. I feel like being a true mechanic would be like having a super power, to save substantial time and money.

Is it cheating to post a review that was also pictured on a WBAYDN post?

    JW Lees Harvest Ale

L: Pours a rusty orange-brown, with little to no head, but what does hang around is bright white. A slow, languorous stream of carbonation threads its way up the glass around lazy, suspended sediment. That the sediment is there at all is due to my inattention while pouring. The beer is 6 years old as I pour it and I should have been more on my game. That all said, the beer screams barleywine. It looks thick. It looks rich. It looks like it wants a fire and a pair of wolfhounds at my feet while I drink it.

A: It smells like an old English farmhouse. There are years in the carpet, pipe tobacco in the air, coal dust by the back door, and age seeping deep into everything. There's a strong umami scent - redolent of crushed beetles, soy sauce and oxidation. There's booze and old sherry, old enough that the liquid has begun to crystalise in the bottom of the bottle. There's marmalade, thick and bursting with peel and sitting beside the jar of Marmite. This is comfort and warmth, cold nights, warm fires and old, old tweed jackets.

T: First blush is sweet malt, quickly gaining an umami edge before the marmalade washes over the tongue. There's an earthy, woody bitterness that never stretches itself beyond mild, and stays away from anything resembling a new word hop. Booze follows, mild at first, building as it warms and then softens out. There's a whiskey note right at the end as the beer thins after the swallow and a nice warmth in the throat and stomach. Everything works in harmony. It's not as loud and proud as the nose, but it perfectly fits the aural scene, and the subtle differences and softening of the taste work brilliantly after the build-up.

M: It's as thick as it looks in the glass. If ever a beer needed a spoon - fine old silverware, if it please m'lord - this one is it. Carbonation is an afterthought. The beer rolls over the tongue with almost no carbonic prickle and leaves only the slightest calling card on the way down.

O: This beer is the perfect synergy of nose, tongue and eyes. It looks like a barleywine, smells like a barleywine and sure tastes like a barleywine. All of those elements build on each other, and it's the evocative nature of that relationship, the building of a sensory pyramid that far outstretches its foundations, that make this beer so good. It's important to understand this is an English barleywine - there are no screaming hops, no face-melting bitterness; instead, there is malt shoved proudly front and centre, and a nod to classic English condiments, lifestyles past and times slower. Drink this beer whenever you see it.

    Cheers!
