Good to see things are back to normal! :grinning: Other than pine, I really felt this was kind of a WC IPA profile on top of a NE IPA body. As this was one of three +rDev reviews for me out of over a dozen, I'm not sure about the higher ratings ... but I suspect that is style dependent. You definitely seemed to have a very similar experience to me with this beer, ratings aside.

Thank you as always, my friend. Shockingly, I've been putting off American Gods for ages, and I am not disappointed - not in the slightest, and I have very, very high expectations of Gaiman, especially when it pertains to religious/ideological fantasy.

I will say is that it immediately and persistently grabs my attention that he defaults to profanity and sexual crudity - which is by no means peculiar to him, but which I've always found to be a bit of an adolescent stab at attention. It's one thing to have a character express vulgarity as a trait (and, well, I'm the opposite of a prude, so I'm not offended), but when it becomes part of your world-building, I begin to suspect it is a crutch. "Look at me, I'm edgy! My characters swear a lot, and I talk about seeeeeeehhhhhx!"

For me, that holds true with literature equally as with music. I've always felt that music that dwelt on sexuality was a touch juvenile; the new Architects single annoys me because they consistently use profanity to excite, and simply because they can, but not because it fits. I'm all about it when it fits, but not when it's a gimmick.

So, kind of like my thoughts on beer, I suppose. I love coffee, cacao, coconut, whatever the hell you want to toss into a beer, when it fits. I love it less when it becomes a gimmick that overstates its importance over the beer itself.

(I really do like the book, though. I don't read it every day, but I do average about 45 pages each sitting.)

Macchinato, a Coffee Porter brewed with hazelnut coffee by English brewery Wylam (6.5% ABV).

Pours a pitch-black coloration with a medium, creamy head. Smells of roasted, slightly caramelly malt and a distinct roasted coffee aroma, as well as just a hint of hazelnut.

Taste is a great balance of roasted, caramel malt and bitter, roasted coffee, as well as lighter chocolate and hints of hazelnut and earthy hops. Finishes bittersweet, with a medium bitterness and some roasted malt and coffee lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

A very nice coffee porter with a distinct quality of roasted malt and coffee, as well as lighter milk chocolate, hazelnut and earthy hop notes, making for a great balance of sweet, roasted and bitter notes, while feeling rather rich for the ABV as well. Overall, a rather enjoyable coffee porter with a rich, roasted character and lighter sweet and bitter notes, with an impressive body and mouthfeel for the ABV.

I often like your beer choices. When you said: "good, not great English style barleywine" I knew this beer must be listed here as an English barley wine. It is, but I don't think it should be. If the system here is going to have an American/English divide, then this one should be "American-style." It's no Bigfoot, but it's hopped and dry-hopped with Amarillo, Citra, Chinook, and Columbus. I could have sworn I put in a request for the change here a year ago. I don't know if they never changed it or changed it back. @FBarber

Black Project Gauntlet (Dry-Hopped Sour Ale With Blackberries)

    4.25 across the board.

    16oz canned 7/10/20. Opened 10/24/20.
    LOOK
    2 finger pink-tinted fluffy head.
Very good retention, falls slowly to a cap. Spotty, slippery lacing.
Reddish-purple liquid, bright but not clear.
    SMELL
Vinous nose, fermentation room - foeder-barrel character.
Sour/tart berry (blackberry/raspberry) aroma, light funk, a premonition of what's to come.
Weedy hop character shows out late as the beer warms some and adds a nice element.
    TASTE
Bright, tart and sour fruit. Bit of a baking spice note middle to late.
Vibrant flavors, intense sourness and a good amount of acidity that all works well together.
    FEEL
Light body, high carbonation. Bright mouthfeel. Dry, lengthy, and sour finish.
    OVERALL
    Outstanding

Another one of those Dovetail brews from @FBarber :
This is their Rauchbier. Yeah, this one wasn't going to see tomorrow around here .

The overall personality here is hovering between even-handed and refined. Fantastic flavors harmoniously meshed together- clean beachwood smoke, toasted bread, dried figs, subtle spiced cookies, dried cherries, even a touch of molasses. It's rich but not too rich, flavorful but not bold, finishing nicely dry and surprisingly bitter. Drinkability is off the charts. It's a solid A (4.5) at the moment, Maybe a touch more punch would bring it higher. But who knows... if I ever have the chance to encounter a full 4-pack I just may have to re-evaluate that drinkability aspect :sunglasses::slight_smile:.

Westbrook how good this is. Sour with guava and tangerine
    Cloudy grape/orange color
Aroma is tangerine fruit and guava, lactose, sugary, citrus and strawberry
... taste is very mild sour,,sweet, guave and tangerine juice. Some lactose, citrus peel and some citrus tart sourness that burns and lingers.
...this was not too sour for a sour and was actually an excellent fruited beer. Was not a sugar bomb and really packed real fruit taste[IMG]

Single Hill's berlinerweisse with raspberries, blackberries, and guava: RBG Rocketship

16oz can split between a pair of WABL glasses. Dated 07/16/20.

Pours pink, cloudy, with ugly floaters drifting about, small head, moderate carbonation. Smell is raspberry, general berries and fruit, sharp tartness that I associate with kettle sours. Not a smell (or flavor) I love, but one that I think is normal and appropriate for the style, so I'll try not to ding it for that.

Taste is kettle sour, a little watery, still a strong berry profile.

Mouthfeel is medium and fairly still. Overall...it's OK.

12.7 ounce bottle from 2020 poured into a DFH tulip. Very little head over a dark brown body. Smell hit me as soon as I opened the bottle. Lots of dark fruits, molasses, raisins and brown sugar along with booze. Taste mirrors the smell but has a certain richness that grows as it warms up; at first I rated it slightly lower but the warming change adds a certain x factor that warrants an upgrade. Mouthfeel is reasonably full without being chewy.

I've been conditioned to big stouts and barleywines from Jackie O's such that this strong ale somewhat took me aback and I had to recalibrate my expectations accordingly. I'll be anxious to see if they continue to brew this since they seem to do a lot of one offs. Still they don't run short on ideas.

    Thank you Dimidiata for this
375 ml bottle, batch 1, poured into a tulip

A- A slightly hazy golden copper with a fast fading white head.

S- White wine, apricots, tart, oak, nice mild funk, a little on the earthy side.

T- Sour, wine grapes shine through, some apricots, oak, earthy funk.

M- Smooth, crisp, light body, carbonation is on the higher side.

O- A tasty wild ale, sourness has a nice puckering quality without being overwhelming. Like the balance of grapes and apricots but was hoping it would be a little heavier with the apricots.

Heist's Pacific Thunder, a hazy IPA.

16oz can served in a big snifter. Dated 09/10/20. Think I got it on Tavour.

Pours a light yellow, very hazy, small head. Smell is very juicy, bright fruit, mango, pineapple, and pine.

Taste is more pine bitterness, fruit skin bitterness, echo of the bright juicy fruits.

Mouthfeel is medium and effervescent. Overall, not bad.

East Sixth Brewing's How's Your Momma & Them? Weizen bock, 7.5% ABV, 3.72 overall

Pours an effervescent copper with 3+ fingers ( proper pour in a hefe glass ) of cream colored head. Below average head retention & lacing

    S: Green bananas & cloves

T: Brown bread, green bananas, cloves & toasty dryness up front. More toasty dryness, some green banana & clove as this warms. Finishes dry with green bananas & a little ripe & toastyness

MF Medium body, fairly restrained carbonation

A solid take on the style, just didn't quite take me all the way back to Germany
