Like you I was impressed. I'll be back next weekend to try the APA and the English Pale Mild. It's actually a little weird having a brewery located just across Route 10 from where I grew up. There's so many options now. I know it's the same for you. If you're gonna be up there again, then let me know and I'll buy the first round. Cheers!

NBS #2. Fat Elvis, from Brix City's Silk City release earlier this month. This variant is conditioned on banana puree, peanut butter, and vanilla. I generally don't like banana in Stouts and was prepared not like this one but Brix did a masterful job. The banana is subtle and adds a tropical hint. The roasted peanut compliments the dried char. I'm really impressed by the delicacy of the bourbon barrel; it's barely noticeable. The flavors blend very well. Although all of the Silk City variants are a bit less viscous than I'd like to see, I'm glad the ABV is limited to 10% so it's not overpowering. I'm pleased to say that this variant exceeded my expectation.

Stunning day out, good to be out playing golf in decent weather again. Drinking some lighter stuff as a result, here's Counterweight - Voided (previously Void)

This is an oatmeal stout, fairly light at around 7% which is great.

Pour is pitch black with tan head. Great lacing.

Nose is malt sugar, coffee, brown sugar, dates, herbal hoppy bitterness.

This is immediately robust, betraying its ABV by at least 2%. Sharp upfront: roast malt, sugar, caramalt, bitter hops. Very even - nothing too sharp, well balanced.

Finish is medium, light and lively after the combo hop/malt bitterness. Heck of a pint, this one.

@NorsemanOne Cheers for the reply, appreciate it. I tuned in for the NE v Dallas second half. Gritty stuff. Reminds me of club rugby days, with muddy conditions, slugfests. Quite enjoyed watching it. There's no shortage of talent, and it's definitely gutsy rugby being played out here. I'll be sure to keep a closer eye. I was watching some warriors highlights, your guys look like a strong outfit. Very explosive backline in particular.

Greetings all from the great northwest where we have seen the Gonzaga Bulldogs basketball season come to an end. Frankly they made a better showing in the tournament than I expected.

This weekend we have Melvin IPA from Jackson Wyoming.

First I've had from this brewer. A well balanced IPA.

    Until next time

    Time for another beer.

Grabbing some more Dewey Beer Co. and a pretty bold impressive stout.

Poured from the can into a teku glass.

Good rich creamy head, at a simple two finger height with tan color and fine bubbles. Sticks around for a bit for a good settling and bowled collar. The body color is a real dark fudge brown. Thick and with a matte like appearance but very bold and some hint of tan carbonation popping up here and there. Very nice looking stout.

Just a gangbusters and excellent aroma. Truly… cookie chocolate waffer with a nice sweet biscuit tone. Dark cookie crunch and hints of light vanilla and lactose with an ice cream flavor. But wait.. There's even more here. Dark roast malt flirting with carob and even some coffee in the mix. Bold and big and shockingly not even a hint of booze for it's giant 15% labelled punch. This is exceptionally well done on the nose, even if it is a goofy flavor somewhat.

Very fascinating palate. The alcohol kick really puts the beer into different territory. Kirsch and coffee like brandy flavors, mixing with dark chocolate cookies in the mid palate. Hot hop and a great roasted malt bitterness on the finish accentuated by the alcohol. Bitterness brings real great aftertaste of coffee, brandy, dark carob chocolate flavors, tangy molasses, crisp waffers and even some nougat like nuttiness. Mouthfeel doesn't quite get velvet but still has some richness, and touching syrupy feel due to high abv content.

Real unique take on this flavored stout that makes some very neat surprises too. If cookies and cream is your jam, this is your beer for sure.

All right, back yet again with another sent to me by the generous @Whyteboar

iOSaison - Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales - Dexter, MI - Saison - 6.4% ABV

I have had a few Jolly Pumpkin beers in the past that I picked up in Wisconsin. To be honest, I really didn't like them much. Don't know if it was a production issue, or improper storage at the liquor stores that caused my dislike. It's been several years since I last ventured with them, but I can say that I like this beer. It's so complex. There's a lot going on, and it took quite a while for me to write my review. I do like this beer, and am so happy that it was sent to me. Thank you Craig!

The beer looked fairly pink when pouring from the can. In the glass it's a darker red color. When I hold it up to the light, there's no clarity in this beer. The head that forms is 2 finger, and off white, with red notes to it. The head retention is ok, and there's a bit of lacing on the glass.
The nose is quite strong, and very floral. Lots of roses in here. There's another aroma that I get that must be the hibiscus.
I have to think a bit about what I'm tasting before I write. There's a lot of bitterness to this beer, and it lingers, but it is also pleasing. The rose isn't as strong as the aroma suggests, but it's there, and it's the main flavor. The hibiscus plays a bigger role than the nose let on, and it's a close second to the rose. The hibiscus provides more of an earthy flavor to this beer. There's a bit of sweetness that comes in the middle, but doesn't linger and is replaced by the bitterness that lingers. There's also a tartness that shows throughout this beer.
The body is crisp feeling. The tartness ans sourness lingers in my throat, and coats it.
I do like this beer, but I can also see why some would not like it.

    Be back for another later.

Camerons Brewing Company - Röad Crew

American Pale Ale, from England (6.2%).

Pours a clear, deep golden amber coloration with a small, frothy head. Smells of doughy, very slightly caramelly malt and floral, grassy, slightly citrussy hops.

Taste is a decent balance of doughy, very slightly caramelly malt and floral, grassy, slightly resinous and fruity hops, with light citrus notes of grapefruit and just a hint of pine. Finishes with a medium bitterness and some floral, citrus hops and just a hint of pine lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a light/medium body and medium carbonation.

While this was originally classified as an IPA, the label now reads American Pale Ale and the truth is probably somewhere inbetween. While the 6.2% ABV are pretty borderline, it feels a bit lighter than that, with the flavor profile tending towards old school IPA though. It's quite floral, which isn't really for me, but also decently bitter and resinous, with a certain, slightly caramelly malt backbone to it as well.

Nothing special, but a decent, drinkable brew that feels like somewhere inbetween an APA and IPA. Seems much closer to an American Old School IPA than an English IPA though, as some others have written, probably because I'm drinking this rather fresh.

Of course my dude! I notoriously hated sports for as long as I can remember. Tried soccer, football, MMA, baseball, etc. Really wishing I got into rugby when I was younger. 80min start to finish is a perfect amount of time imo.

I'll take the bumps, bruises and even cheap shots in the lineout compared to injuries in football, so I don't perceive it as gritty. I enjoy seeing older athletes play since you get penalized for being dangerous. I certainly don't want my boys playing (football) if we can help it.

Hoping to join in with you guys soon.

Wife's grandmother's 80th today. Lots of good traditional swedish food, sadly the entire family (minus the Mrs. and I) are non-drinkers.

Is it still a party if it's dry?

    FrauGruber Brewing - Crazy Times

Double New England IPA with Strata, Simcoe and HBC 586 hops, from Germany (8.1%).

Pours a hazy, dark orange coloration with a medium, fluffy head. Smells of light biscuity malt and tropical, citrus hops, with notes of passion fruit, mango, lychee and grapefruit.

Taste is a great balance of light biscuity malt and fruity, juicy, slightly resinous, herbal and dank hops, with tropical and citrus notes of passion fruit, mango, lychee, grapefruit and orange, as well as hints of herbal weed and pine, Finishes with a light/medium bitterness and some passion fruit, lychee, grapefruit and weed lingering in the aftertaste. Soft mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

This makes for a pretty nice NEIPA in which all of the different hop varieties stand out rather vibrant and well-defined. There's the passion fruit and dankness from Strata, grapefruit and hints of pine resin from Simcoe, while I pick up a distinct lychee note that I would assign to the HBC 586, as well as some light herbal accents. This has certainly got that balance of fruity, juicy and slightly dank and resinous notes going on that I appreciate in a NEIPA, although in leans more heavily toward to juicy side of thing. Still this makes for a rather enjoyable example of the style, with a good mouthfeel as well and not a hint of booziness to it.

Another new beer from @NorsemanOne -
    [IMG]
Poured a tinted yellow color with a short, 1 cm near white head that dissipated quickly and left no lacing.
The aroma was lost on my Covid affected nose, sorry.
The taste belies the norm- there is bitter there but not piney, almost like Granny Smith apple tart which was in left field. That said, I rather liked it.
The feel is pleasantly drinkable, if I hadn’t been trying to decide what I was tasting it would have gone down very quickly indeed.
Good beer, a bit perplexing but still tasty!

Day 2, one and done for me this evening - Mrs O is making ham & beans, and I’m prepared to eat my body weight in that ATF of mine.

This beer from the “Hazy King” will establish a good foundation for me to build from. Bring it, NBS, because it’s your lucky day!!!

Pours a very hazy yellow color with a chalky white head that is creamy and provides significant lacing. Beautiful hazy. The nose is rife with white grapes, lychee, pineapple, and some mango. Very nice.

The taste is all about that white grape and lychee combo pack that lends an exotic note to this NEDIPA, with balance provided by the pine and mango. The can references pilsner malt, which for me impacts the color of this beer only, because the taste is all in the Galaxy and Nelson Sauvin hops. Delicious stuff.

The mouthfeel is full, creamy, and on the softer side per the style. I could drink this until it came out my ears.

Well said. Yeah, I guess that scoreline was 10-9 with a flanker knock-on off a scrum on the blind side to finish the 80. So gritty in the sense that it was tight and intense. You're right though, I've had to learn how to watch football. It's tough seeing guys flying in off their feet, shoulder height, body on the line, but that's how the sport is. I love watching football but it's intense. And yeah, all the pads do is produce a false security. Completely agree with your sentiment. Forwards have it tough in terms of cheap shots! :stuck_out_tongue:

Dark amber body, clear; thin khaki colored head; thin sheets of foam curtain the glass. Malty, grainy nose. Toasted and roasted grain flavor; mild spiciness; buckwheat and rye; light bitterness; nutty. Medium body; sharp and prickly on the palate; light dryness.

A very nice, balanced amber ale, clean and tasty.

Fossil Cove Brewing Co. Frost Fest Double IPA, 9.4% ABV; 4.2 overall. Easily the best beer I had from these guys if memory serves me

Pours an effervescent honey color with one finger of eggshell colored head. Pretty good head retention & lacing

S: Super fruity, bready, some mango & papaya for sure, fades a bit as this warms up

T: Follows the nose, a little dryness, some woody hops, a little sweet pineapple as well up front. Cakeyness, dryness, pine & pineapple as this beer warms up. Finishes with sweet oranges, pine, cakeyness & dryness, plus a little pineapple

MF: Pretty chewy, low carbonation, decent balance, sweetness finally gives way to bitter as this beer comes up to ambient temperature

This is a throwback Imperial IPA, malt forward, heavily influenced by their house yeast ( which usually doesn't work for me ). A sipper for sure
