Pick this one up from @Victory_Sabre1973 at Dallas, WI O'fest.

    Bemidji Brewing, Riverfestbier.
    4.3% ABV My review:
    3.96/5 rDev 0%
    look: 4.25 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4
    Enjoyed from 750ml crowler can.
Look: transparent gold body. Nice white head that leaves some nice lacing
    Smell: grain, biscuit. sweet malt.
Taste is grain a little biscuit, a micro hint of honey. Corn? There are a some mild hops notes that herbal/floral plus maybe a hint of grass. Taste is less sweet that it smells. More bitterness on the end and in the aftertaste.
Good mouth feel for the ABV. Nice carbonation.
A clean nice drinking fest beer.

Thanks to @AzfromOz for kicking things off this weekend! I'm drinking Parallax from Single Hill. American style barleywine aged in Westland Distilling American single-malt whiskey barrels. Comes in at 11% ABV, and this is apparently the first rating/review of this beer on BA.

Poured from a can at fridge temp, but it has warmed for a good 5-10 minutes so far. Pours a murky orange with a bit of off-white head. The barrel comes through on the nose pretty immediately. Boozy bourbon, along with some citrus notes. Orange peel, melon, a nice floral note, and a hint of toffee (although it took a bit for this to come out).

The taste is fantastic. Sweeter than the nose suggested. Now getting tons of Werther's caramel candy, along with vanilla, bourbon, and an ever-so-soft citrus peel note. Also getting notes of honey and a plums. Really love the taste. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, and the aftertaste is sweet candy.

I'm really surprised how different the nose and taste were on this beer. It's not often that I'm completely shocked by a taste after smelling something, but that's what happened here.

Earlier today I had lunch with Mrs. DeWitt-or-BreWitt and enjoyed two bottles of:
    Left Hand Milk Stout Nitro
6% ABV ** Goofy glass <> I poured bottle 1 wrong but bottle 2 was correct with a firm creamy head.
    3.95/5 rDev -4.6%
    look: 4.25 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 4 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4
12 oz bottles into a 12 oz glass.
L: Pours black and is pretty much like other nitro beers with cascading bubbles and an expanding firm & pillowy light tan head that has incredible retention. The head is like a lid. Thick lacing with heavy sheeting and rhythmic banding.
S: Toasted caramel malts, brown sugar, toffee, a hint of char.
T: Dark toasted sweet malts, mocha, a hint of toffee, very light chocolate, a hint of coffee very light vanilla.
F: Smooth and very creamy medium bodied feel with a medium length non-drying finish.
O: A lovely tasting and feeling Milk Stout. Very easy drinking, smooth, creamy and gently sweet. Great to the last drop. It is outstanding in its style.

    Good evening NBW
I just returned home from a quick trip to northern Indiana and Ohio. Stumbled across two IIPAs of high reputation, so I grabbed them both. First up
    [IMG]
    Columbus Bodhi

12oz can PKGD 08/03/23 poured into a Spiegelau IPA glass at fridge temp 8.3% ABV. The beer pours opaque, slightly hazy medium amber with khaki colored head. The head recedes to a thin cap and leaves rings of lacing. The aroma is moderate in strength featuring pine plus tropical and citrus fruit. The taste is bittersweet earthy, resinous tropical fruit layered on caramel malt. Moderate plus final bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Overall, excellent IPA.

That's all for tonight. Cheers all!

Good evening fellow beer geeks! We had our monthly SAN last night and this one was left over so I drank it tonight.
One of the ones we had last night was from the same brewery, Precious Vanilla, and that was really well done (provided you really like vanilla)
So I had high hopes for this one. The pour was good in that it looked like a stout, just without any head. Hmmm.
The taste definitely includes chocolate and salt, but while a touch of salt on an actual brownie is great for amping up the flavor, it’s just salty in this beer. Curious if that was the intent.
The feel is pleasantly viscous, this is a sipping beer, no doubt.
OA, I may try a different year to see if they can dial in the balance more, hope springs eternal ya know.
    Cheers all!

Been a minute since I have had the time to review a beer here on NBW - but I felt this one deserved a write up.

Goose Island Beer Co. - Husk

Pours a dark coca cola brown. Thin, weak khaki colored head forms on the beer when poured but quickly disappears. Aroma is lovely - notes of dark fruits, raisins, plums and prunes, with maple and brown sugar, oak and bourbon, vanilla and char. There is a lovely array of harmonious notes perfect for a cold evening by the fire.

The taste follows the nose with notes of brown sugar, toffee, maple - sweet, but not overly sweet. Lots of dark fruits and tannic notes giving way to oak and bourbon on the finish. Really a quite lovely blend of flavors. Feel is sticky, fuller bodied, with a sprightly carbonation. Rather dry on the finish.

Overall its a lovely barleywine from Goose Island.

Boulevard Dark Crator BA Doppelbock, 12.5% ABV; 4.16 overall

Pours a slightly effervescent hazel/caramel with one finger of cream-colored head. Traces of lacing & head retention

S: Red wine, toffee & leafy hops

T: Follows the nose, oaky barrel as well, some figs too up front. Barrel dryness/rawness & a little heat, plus woody hops, & red wine, some caramel as this beer warms up. A little whiskey sneaks into the finish, dry, oaky with figs, red wine & treacle as well

MF: Medium body, restrained carbonation, warming

A sipper, but delivers complex flavors make you want to come back for more

Breakfast Epiphanies from Free Will. Imperial stout aged in bourbon maple syrup barrels with coffee. Comes in at 12.6% ABV. Huge thanks to Dan (@DIM ) for sending this can!

Poured at fridge temp. Pours motor oil black with a solid 2 inches of brown head. Once the head dissipated, it looked rich and creamy. The nose is fantastic. Huge roasted malts, coffee, maple, and some vanilla.

The taste is insane. Huge coffee notes hit first. This is really good coffee, not the cheap shit. Following this is maple, vanilla, molasses, roasted malts, almonds, baking chocolate, biscuits, and slight tobacco.

The mouthfeel is super creamy. Overall, a fantastic stout!

After I got the kids to bed last night I enjoyed this one while watching the Habs play a sloppy game, but make a gutsy comeback for the win against the Jets. I was sleepy by game’s end and didn’t have a chance to record my impressions.

This is Thin Man Unsung Smoked Helles Lager. This was given to me a few weeks ago by a great BA in our sort-of-semi-annual beer swap when he drives up to Toronto. I generally really like Thin Man beers, and love smoked beers, so am really looking forward to this one.

Pours a straw gold with substantial head that sticks around a good while leaving a thin film on the beer’s surface and light lacing as the beer is enjoyed.

The nose is nearly smoke free, which I was a little saddened by. What I do get is light cereal, lemongrass and the ever so slightest hint of green apple.

The taste brings the smoke, but only in a very mild, subdued way. If the label didn’t indicate this to be a smoked beer, I wouldn’t be looking for it and might have missed it. There is soda cracker, some herbal notes and that suggestion of green apple.

The body is light and the beer is very drinkable.

I liked this. I was disappointed by the very mild smoked quality, but then again, I always want the smoke to be prominent. The apple notes are not something I generally enjoy, but they were mild enough as to not distract my enjoyment. Overall, a solid beer that I’d gladly drink again.

    Cheers!

Good morning yinz! Back again with another from Jackie O's:

Champion Ground (2023 vintage) – from Jackie O’s Brewery. 12.7 oz bottle. Acquired 26/10/23 online from Jackie O’s, $15.50 (Including shipping and tax), $ 1.22/oz. Reviewed 29/10/23 (Review 3174). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Label stamped “2023”. Stored at 34 degrees at home. Served at 56.6 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature was 59.5 degrees F.
    Appearance – 4.
First pour – Deep Amber (SRM 15), slight haze.
Body – Brown (SRM 20), opaque. Under direct light, same. When rear-lite, same with pear overtones at the top edge, red amber at the bottom.
Head: Average (Maximum one cm, aggressive center pour), buff, fizzy, and just outlasts the pour, leaving no crown, cap, nor bubble ring.
    Lacing – None.
Aroma – 4.5 – Moderate malt aroma mixed with bourbon, oak, and coffee in the background. No hops, no yeast. No ethanol (13.1 % ABV according to the label). The bourbon quickly fades.
Flavor – 4.25 – Begins slightly sweet with mild toasted malt, bourbon, brown sugar. Not picking up any oakiness on the taste. Coffee quickly switches from a dominant flavor to a nagging after thought. No hops, no yeast. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl. Ends with weak gastric heat.
Palate – 4 – Medium; approaching syrupy; soft carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 4.25 The transitory nature of the bourbon and the fading coffee make this an unusual taste experience, sort of a flavor roller coaster. Certainly not bad, but I would have enjoyed a longer performance from both the bourbon and coffee.
    Rating 4.27, rDev -1.2%

Extremely fruit fly approved - four are walking on the bottle rim, taking turns going down the inside of the neck. As long as they stay away from my snifter...
