New Belgium Voodoo Ranger Cryo Ranger IPA, 7.8% ABV; 3.9 overall

Pours an effervescent gold with 2+ finger of pearl colored head. Nice head retention & lacing

S: A little green melon, grassyness & perfumy I associate more with old world Pilsners or Helles, plus a little breadyness

T: Green melon, dryness, limes up front, some white grape skin as well. More green melon & dtyness, plus a little grassyness as this beer warms up. Finishes with green melon, dryness & white grapes & lime

MF: Medium body, crisp carbonation, nice balance

Great drinkability, solid DIPA, but don't think I would pull the trigger on this again

So... Compared to the imperial it's...better? In a can but just as good? Better, but in a can for some reason? Not worthy of a different variety?

Here's one from The Drowned Lands in New York-- "Water Elm: Berry"
My first thought on seeing the odd reddish tinged color, and then reading the label, was "oh no, not flavored Rice Lagers!" But it's actually quite drinkable. But I like the flavor of a good Japanese rice lager better. Why not just drink a fruit seltzer instead? Oh-- be open to possibilities...

No, I've always liked asahi. Plenty of funk. This sounds good to next level.

Just slightly different. Cryo hops certainly depend on how they are used. Too much & the dryness starts knocking out all the other flavors. Cryo freaks will like this

Lost Forty Kilt Optional Scotch Ale, 6.3% ABV; 3.92 overall

Pours an effervescent hazel/chestnut color with a pinky of tan head, Some head retention &lacing

S: Some brown bread, faint peatyness, brown sugar & toastyness

T: All of the above, dryness, a little leafy hops up front. More toastyness, a touch of peatyness, fairly dry, as this beer warms through, some woody hops . Finishes pretty dry with faint peatyness, toastyness & a little toffee

MF: Medium, a little over carbonated for the style

A solid stab at the style, could use some refinement & then on to making a BA Wee Heavy??? I would buy this every year, but it has room for improvement. This is a style I rarely I find close to perfection in...

    Good Sunday morning, Weekenders!

Speedway Stout is one of my absolute all time imperial stout benchmarks (along with FIS and Ten-Fidy). Yes, I know it has coffee; I don't care. It's thick, rich, and wonderful.

So a Salted Caramel Brownie version? Count me in - and twice! Three times! A lady! (My lady loves salted caramel and stouts, too, so this should be a home run for her.)

Unfortunately ... no. At least from me, Clive.

It's not bad. It's good. But that's it.

First of all, it's exceptionally salty. When you add salt to caramel, chocolate, or coffee, the goal is to accent and elevate the star ingredient. Here, it takes away; the salt is nearly overpowering.

The chocolate is bitter, and when paired with the coffee and base beer, it simply becomes more and more bitter. Is that a problem in a stout? Not normally. Is it what you want from a frickin' brownie? No, no, no. Now you've gone too far.

Based on the can and the advertising, I expected a rich, fudge-like dessert beer. That's not what this is. And I can say that the caramel impression does grow over time, but overall the profile is still a bit thin and bitter.

AleSmith makes some absolutely fantastic beers, including variants of Speedway Stout. This, while tasty, is not one of them. I can't help but think that this beer is getting a rating boost from reputation.

Thanks to Whyteboar for this one!

12oz bottle poured into a stemmed tulip glass.

The beer pours pitch black pour with about two fingers worth of tan/khaki head that recedes slowly leaving behind a small crown that lasts throughout the session, and a nice amount of lacing.

The aroma is roasty and coffee forward, with notes of dark chocolate, and just a hint of char.

Like the aroma, the taste is mainly roasted malts and coffee, with hints of dark chocolate, char, and to a lesser degree vanilla, and grassy hops. Medium bodied, and mildly carbonated with a nice creaminess. No booziness to speak of

Overall, this is a nice, easy drinking stout

Thanks to @Whyteboar for this one!!

Settling down for the morning to do some work, watch some football (Premier League and NFL) and enjoy a beer. Not sure how smart it is to drink a 14.1% beer while I work, but I tend to take a LONG time to drink beers like this (probably 2-3 hours), so hopefully I don't send any regrettable emails!

Appearance is typical for the style - close to black with motor oil vibes as it pours. Minimal short-lived tan head. Decent legs. Decent looking beer, but mostly unremarkable.

Nose is very nice. Rich and malty with clear notes of molasses and cherries.

It's taking me a bit to figure out what I think of the taste. My impression upon the first sip was that there was too much of a cough syrup vibe to it, but after several sips that impression has mostly (but not completely) subsided. Interestingly this is nowhere near as rich as the nose implied it would be, which is fine by me. There's a bit of sweetness, but it's not over the top. I didn't smell any roast, but I definitely taste some, especially on the finish.

Very nice alcohol warming, and very full bodied.

    Overall, this is very nice.

I wanted this last night, but had a big dinner and didn't want to overdo it.

    Bewilder - Mole Porter

Brewed with cacao, cinnamon, and chipotle peppers.
    Canned on 10.27.23
Purchased from the brewery cooler for $3
Poured at fridge temp into a nonic glass

Pours a seemingly thick oily black, with a cola tan head that rose quickly and fell just as fast. No lacing or residual head, but an oily slick left behind a long with some visible rising carbo popping the surface. 4

Dark bakers chocolate, some smoked chipotle and pepper, cinnamon too makes a slight appearance. Reminds me of Mole Negro. 4.25

Taste follows exactly how I remember mole negro. Smoky, savory, unsweet chocolate, soft peppery heat. It's quite delicious and while not rich I'd consider it robust. 4.5

Oily appearance carries and leaves a light trace behind. Fairly full nearing chewy body, soft carbo. 4

Overall a delicious adjunct laded English porter that is billed exactly as advertised. Incredibly well made with flavors that could have easily gone awry but blended perfectly and for the intended effect. Will absolutely buy again. 4.25

Taste follows but bigger and better. Mango, mandarin, guava, and apricot well spread out. 4.5

Mouthfeel is above average, not sticky or dry, soft gentle carbonation, and at 8.4% really easy sipping. 4.5

Overall a very nice NEDIPA from a very impressive brewery.

    de Garde - The Archer

Another delicious beer from de Garde. This one pours a color that I can only describe as that of watered down red wine, with a pinkish head. The aroma is funk and your expected Pinot Noir notes from the grapes. The taste is well balanced with sourness and bitterness being predominant. Very pleasant mouth feel and a long, dry, and bitter finish.

Pours a deep, clear honey amber color before the yeast sediment enters the mix; dark amber in the glass; thin head initially that recedes to a light ring encircling the inside of the glass. Huge caramel and toffee aroma; some indeterminate earthy esters; leather. Rich malt flavor with a boozy undercurrent; caramel and toffee; figs; a kind of peppery spiciness in the background. Heavy body; thick and sticky on the palate; dense residual sugars.

There's no indication of barrel aging on the bottle label, yet my palate gets a sense of some sort of whisky / whiskey barrel aging. Ah, but wait! The web site indicates the possibility of whisky barrel aging but not necessarily for this edition. Regardless, this is one heck of a big, classic, English style barley wine. Rich, luxurious, flavorful, and a fine sipper.

    Midnight Dunkel

    5.5% by Sibling Revelry

Poured from a twelve ounce can, the body is an opaque dark brown. Small white head quickly recedes and light lacing during the tasting.

Aroma is a light grainy, nutty nose. Perfect for an autumn evening.

Taste follows nose and adds a lightly sweet chocolate. There is a very subtle hop bitterness that is present but doesn't balance the malt. I d prefer a breadier and sweeter taste but that's a statement of preference, not a criticism.

Mouthfeel is a bit light but the carbonation is good.

Easy drinking. Solid Dunkel from a local brewery.

Since this is NFL Sunday i typically go with lower gravity beers. Today's choice in Schilling's Rennsteig, a Schwarzbier.

Beer poured dark brown with a beautiful tan head that has some great hang time-4.5.

Nose is nice, notes of light roasted malts that give a touch of coffee-4.0.

Taste is light to medium roasted malts that give notes of pumpernickel bread. I do get some light coffee in after sip aspirations. Finishes with a nice dose of hops that balance this out perfectly-4.5.

Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied and both smooth and refreshing-4.0.

Overall a very nice Schwarzbier, another nice job by the Schilling team-4.25 (overall 4.28).

This is a cross-post with the BIF thread. Thanks @Mikexw , nice choice!
    Cheers!
