Cheers to @FBarber for this NBS BIF #18 brew Werk Force/Rocky Reef BBA Stupid Sticky Fingers ( 2024 ) Imp Stout W/ Roasted Marshmallows, Graham Crackers, Cacao Nibs & Milk Sugar, 13.2% ABV; 4.16 overall

Pours a semi-turbid chestnut with a pinky of tan head. Average-ish head retention & less lacing

    S: Some vanilla & marshmallow

T: Cocoa, vanilla, mocha flavors besides those previously listed upfront, a little hazelnut. Lactose, presses through as this beer warms up, cinnamon, vanilla & cocoa, this is a bloody S'mores, a little Bourbon nibbles at the edges to be sure, some woody hops as well. Finishes dry, oaky, with a little booze, vanilla & marshmallow, a hint of coconut & cocoa, Lactose shows as dryness & sweetness, works well!

MF: Medium body/chewy, low carbonation, faint hints of barrel warmth

Nice take on the style, the ABV asserts itself as this warms up

Basqueland Brewing Project (Spain) collab with Deya Brewing Company (UK) ‘Chop Chop’ 8th Anniversary DIPA,

    4.26/5 rDev +2.7%
    look: 4 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4.25

OK then.,. here’s a 440 ml / 14.9 oz pink label can, poured into a proper pint glass, in Toulouse, FR.
This is a Basqueland Brewing Project (Spain) 8th Anniversary collab with Deya Brewing Company (Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, UK), 1 of 8 limited, unique and unrepeatable brews.

Pours dense papaya batido thick, aromas of cantelope and pineapple jump out the glass, right now. Creamy pale white head over carrot juice-color brew.
The Motueka hop is boom bam assertive and up front, different from being restrained and mixed, as is its usual unfeatured position.
Taste is oh my gosh fruit salad - I can’t get past the cantelope / mush melon thing. A true milkshake DIPA, it’s super chewy and dense from flaked oats and maltodextrin adjunk treatment. Got late pine sap drip under the cantelope brolly and a little bitter bite.,. Gah!
Mouthfeel is uber thick, yet lush. Prickly carbonation somehow rises up the muck to be a propellant. A big thick burp takes a minit to get out.
    Mmmmbuurp.,.,
    K then.,.
Overall, this is a project to work through, but, dammit, it’s an Anniversary beer.,. unique, Extreme, and sum damp good.

[IMG] This might be a record for posts on this thread before 7am. Thanks for getting it going Dave.

Poured into a 16 oz Nordic pint glass canned on 4/12/24. Pours a very attractive hazy orange with a half finger sticky white head that leaves thin lines of lace, with nice retention. 4.5

Aroma is mango, passionfruit, guava, blueberry, and apricot. 4.5

Taste follows mango, passionfruit, guava, a hint of blueberry, and apricot very well balanced. 4.5

Mouthfeel is above average, soft gentle almost creamy mouthfeel, not sticky or dry, and at 8.5% big balanced flavor, with excellent drinkability. 4.5

Overall we are talking Citra and Mosaic DDH of course it should be good. It is and well worth a shot if you see it. 4.5

    St. Feuillien Grand Cru (Belgium)

33 cl bottle poured into a snifter in beautiful Toulouse, France.
Up jumps a rich flat white froth that settles atop clear yellow gold brew. Stunningly, there is no BB date.,
Aroma is rather vague; malt, the usual banana, touch of funkiness.
First taste is unimpressive, but as the Cru warms, it unleashes its secrets. The 9.5% ABV forces the doppio malto and noble hops to jump up and blast the senses. There’s a honey sweet peppery spiciness that lingers. No lacing, a puddle of foam becomes froth again on the spin. Cidery, grapey, nicely bitter finish fearures an alcohol bite. Quick buzz. Zoom.
Mouthfeel is full, zipzip zippy carbonation.
Overall, patience is key here. Let the beer come to you. It’ll happen.

    Wiseacre Starless Schwarzbier

12oz can marked 306 3, so about 6 months old, poured into a becher glass at fridge temp 5.3% ABV. The beer pours dark brown in color with light brown colored head. The head recedes to a thin ring and island. The aroma is mild with some roasty, chocolately notes. The taste is bittersweet roasted malt with slightly ashy, slightly dark chocolate flavor and a mild, earthy hop bitterness. Mouthfeel is thin bodied with average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Overall, good.

    Cheers all!

I think it's because the landing page pulls based on title string matches. You forgot to add "now?" to your thread title so it isn't getting pulled.

I'm always looking for smoked beers, so I picked up a crowler from one of the local breweries that just moved from White Bear Lake to Vadnais Heights.

    Big Wood Forest Fire
    [IMG]
    Appearance: Dark amber, good head.

Smell: Malty sweetness with a hint of smoke in the background.

Taste: Moderately sweet with a syrupy, coating feel. Mild rye spiciness, sweetness throughout. Just a hint of smoke in the finish. The finish is long-lasting, mild smoke and the rye sticks around.

Overall: Picked up a crowler since I wanted a smoked beer. This doesn't bring much smoke to the party, mostly some whispers in the finish. Kind of interesting strong beer though, the rye brings something different to the party. If it was in 12 or 16oz cans it might be an occasional purchase.

[IMG] Poured into a 16 oz Nordic pint glass canned on 4/3/24. Pours a very attractive near pitch black with a 2 finger sticky brown head that leaves thick streaks of lace with excellent retention. 4.75

Aroma is cocoa, vanilla, coffee grounds, heath bar, a hint of pine, and a kiss of grapefruit. 4.25

Taste follows cocoa, coffee, Heath bar, vanilla, pine, and grapefruit and somehow it works together. 4.25

Mouthfeel is above average, gentle carbonation, maybe a little dry, and at 9% big body and flavor, but easy sipping. 4.5

Overall this is a unicorn these days. If you like the style, this one is excellent. 4.25

Moersleutel Beer Engineers (Netherlands) / White Labs Copenhagen (Denmark) collab - ‘Labratchet’ Espresso Lava Cake Imperial Stout

44 cl can, poured into a Firestone Walker taster’s glass at 52°, in Toulouse, France.
Deep brown foam cap above used motor oil color sludgy brew.
Nose is rich dark chocolate, brownie batter, full pull espresso, and vapors of vodka.
Taste is Big and Bold., in your face rich fudgy vanilla extract coffee goo, and a very hot alcohol bite. Coats the mouth, got to sip this monster slowly and chew my way down. Seems to get louder and stronger as it settles to room temperature, as a result, the stout’s profile gets overwhelmed by ‘don’t light a match’ alky heat.
Water back after every hit. This is a project.,.
Mouthfeel is thick and viscous, it’s got low oozy carbonation driving.
Overall, maybe it’s too extreme, as the flavors start off nice, but get powerslammed into submission by the 15% ABV.

Happy to spend another weekend at the virtual new beer bar with all of you. Today is Allagash's annual "Saison Day", so I'll try to stick to either Allagash beers, or beers in the Saison / Farmhouse family. To that end, first up for me is Barrel-Aged Freckled Fields, from Fox Farm. I love, love, love regular Freckled Fields....let's see how the BA version stacks up.

    Batch #2, bottled November, 2020.

Beautiful beer. Bright gold with plenty of fizzy white head that lasted longer than I expected. There's enough effervescence to maintain a small cap.

Aroma is fairly discrete from a foot away, but up close it screams farmhouse funk. Bright notes of lemon and hay, but it's the earthy funk that I love the most. I'm not getting any oak on the nose, but that's fine, as this still smells wonderful.

Taste has many layers to it. It was subtle, light farmhouse ale at first, but subsequent sips brought out different flavors. Everything is well balanced. Not too tart, and just the right amount of funk to almost keep me guessing from sip to sip in terms of what I'm going to experience. Hints of oak, lemongrass and light must. Light, relatively dry, and refreshingly easy to drink.

    Overall, very nice beer.

Good morning, Weekenders! It sure looks like we're off to a heck of a start! I'll chime in with a breakfast-appropriate-ish brew, split with my partner:

The Veil - Wangdoodle: White Russian (11.5% ABV imperial milk stout with coffee, vanilla, and "natural flavors," aged in Willett Bourbon Barrels for 28 months)

Wow, this one's a home run ... if you like White Russians, of course.

It smells just like the drink, including the dangerous, almost ominous booziness (for the record, I love White Russians).

Flavor is super rich and decadent, and for about the first half, leans closer to cookies and cream than a cocktail, but the coffee note on the back half really brings it around. Delicious from start to finish. The bourbon brings a wonderful booziness that helps sell the illusion, but tasting notes are largely complementary rather than stand-out (appropriately, I might add).

    Absolutely fantastic.

Busy weekend. Have a bunch of kids and grandkids visiting, and it's a bit of a madhouse. My son was picking up his girlfriend in Albuquerque and stopped at La Cumbre on his way home, so my NBW is going to be La Cumbre Weekend.
First up is Project Dank, Mercury Edition. An IPA starring Citra, Eukanot, and Centennial.
Gold color, faint haze, Small white head. Nice lacing.
Mostly a fruit aroma, slight pine.
Big fruit taste. Mango, pineapple, grapefruit, orange. Late hit of pine.
Medium mouthfeel. Seamless transition from fruit to pine.
    Nicely done!

I didn't drink at all in high school. First time I drank was a few weeks before heading off to college when I met my roommate to be down at the shore. Spaghetti for dinner and lots of White Russians. Let's just say the night didn't end well. I haven't had a White Russian since, nor will I ever. Took me a long, long time to even be able to think of them without feeling sick.

I was wondering the same thing. It's been a while since I had the regular version, although I have several bottles in the cellar. Maybe I'll crack one open later today, although I try to stick to new beers on the weekend as often as possible.
