Hey, kids. House is quiet. Our "kids" have gone to the jack-o-lantern display at the Roger Williams Zoo. Light rain and just as they pulled out there was one boom of thunder. I'll sit inside and have me a beer.

Neither of us remembers buying this one, and before the date police come get me there's no date or even trace of a horribly smudged date on the can.

Moniker Brewery Electric Recorder 6.7% New England IPA. It's hopped with Cashmere and Zamba, so maybe there's some potential here It promises lemon, peach, pineapple and mango - says so right on the label. Let's see...

Pours with a fluffy, white head over kind of a pineapple juice color translucent liquid. The head clings quite well. It's got the look, I suppose.

On the nose I'm not getting much. Vaguely sweet and kind of a fruit cocktail-ish tropical and citrus fruit melange.

The taste perks up some. Pineapple emerges as does a pleasantly peach peach. It's fairly sweet. On the back end of the taste there's a lemony hit that is pretty clear. But it falls flat - a lot of the flavor potential I thought might come out of the hops used don't seem to be there. It's basically kind of flat and two dimensional.

It feels a little juicy but light, surprisingly dry finish. There's a bitter hit mid-swallow. Mild carbonation.

Overall, it's OK at best. Not knowing the age, I can't say if it's lost a beat or not. I don't taste any oxidation. As it sits, 3.6 territory maybe. It just seems like it's close but not quite there.

    Cloudburst - Boycott the Uline

16oz can served in a big snifter. Dated 09/03/24. Bought it at Ridgewood about two weeks ago.

Pours clear dark golden with a medium sized head that settles quickly into a medium sized ring and a wide, thin island. Smell is pine resin, melon rind, slight honey sweetness.

Taste is grain and honey sweetness with a strong earthy/resinous bitterness. Grapefruit rind is strong. Lots of resin bitterness in the finish.

Mouthfeel is medium to light, effervescent. Overall, pretty good IPA, not a mind blowing fresh hop.

My final (wait, tomorrow is Columbus Day, will this thread still be open through tomorrow?) is one I saw and thought I’d like to try it. Samuel Smith does some good stuff.

Poured the color of Baltic amber with a 1” manilla head that curiously left no lacing.
The taste is very mild toffee, oak, a bit of leather and a touch of apple, which really surprised me. Nothing amazing but it is very good.
The feel is light and lively, which seems counterintuitive but works well here.
OA, very good beer to have tried, and I might even try it again.
It didn’t really taste like a “strong ale”, not sure I’d classify as such by the flavor, but this isn’t a style I drink often so who am I to judge?
    Cheers!

    Three Magic Letters
    6% AIPA by Hill Farmstead

Poured from a pint can, the body is an apricot yellow with nice fluffy white head. Good lacing.

Nose is tropical with a lovely waft of Nelson.

Taste has a light, clean bitterness with a subtle dankness. An enjoyable tropical flavor, mildly sweet, works well with the Nelson.

Mouth is soft and carbonation is good.

Unsurprisingly another good IPA by Hill Farmstead.

    Hello NBW
This beer steals my motto when it come to beer.
    Yes Is The Answer
Stamped: Be Well Sara Loves You 7/30/24.

Visually as expected for style, but with a really solid, fluffy head. Good retention and clumpy lacing.
Nose begins with a light, almost generic citrus note. But soon there after a really bright peach comes through.
Flavor follows the nose, but eventually the peach becomes a really pleasant contributor.
    Mouth feel is slightly pillowy.

Toppling Goliath Nelson Sauvin Dry Hop Pseudo Sue Pale Ale, 5.8% ABV; 3.96 overall

Pours a very hazed gold with 2 fingers of whippy beige head. Very good head retention & lacing

S: Some tropical fruit, citrus & hints of coconut, fades a bit

T: Pineapple, coconut, green melon, passion fruit & dryness up front. Dryness, green melon & white grapes dominate as this beer warms up, a touch if pomelo as well. Finishes dry, with pomelo, lime & green melon & a little pineapple

MF: Medium body, slight carbonation, good balance

Drinks easy enough just doesn't really wow me

One more while watching the Dodgers put a spank on the Mets.
    Kissin Sky
16 oz can stamped "9/10/24 Skizzy Rips"
Pops with a nice, white fluff that slowly tapers off to a film. Good retention, thin, soapy lacing. Golden in hue.
Nose bursts with peach, citrus zest, & blueberry.
Flavor follows the nose faithfully. The citrus is lighter, almost pithy rind, and makes more room for the peach and berry notes. A hint of guava comes through as well.
Mouthfeel is a tad fluffy for a nonNEIPA, but really plays well here. Just a tad shy of medium heft and finishes with a slightly dry, bitter note.
    Solid.

Cloudburst - For Wet's Sake fresh hop IPA

16oz can served in a big snifter. Dated 09/24/24. Bought it at Ridgewood about two weeks ago.

Pours hazy pale yellow. Small head, very fine carbonation. Smell is bright hoppy resin and cut grass and fruit skin, melon rind, leans toward lemon rind.

Taste is citrus rind, melon rind, strong bitterness, moderate juicy sweetness.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied, slightly chalky. Nice.
