Love that name, Groundskeeper Willy. "Aye, or Die!"

I agree, many Wee Heavies are too sweet.

That's kind of what the style is about, Malt Showcase. But then again what I'd want to do with most of them is barrel age them & amp up the grain bill...

    Another Montana Gem from @muchloveforhops3

Kettlehouse Brewing Co. Shady New England Style IPA, 7.0% ABV; 4.07 overall

Pours a hazed effervescent honey color with a thumb+ of cream-colored head. Average-ish head retention & lacing

S: Plenty of citrus, some tropical fruit, fades a bit once warm

T: Oranges, passion fruit, a little lime & green melon up front. Tangerine, limes, passion fruit & pineapple once warmed up, plus a little dryness. Finishes a little dry with much tropical fruit & pineapple, even a little coconut

Medium body, dialed back carbonation, good balance, some acidic notes

Solid take on the style, started out like gang busters & tailed off a little once warm

Drinks easy, fairly juicy. This would be in my rotation if locally available, delivers on the flavor!

Last beer of the weekend for me. Had our end of season parents vs kids soccer game (parents prevailed 4-1)
This is Troegs Brewing out of Hershey PA and their Bourbon Barrel Aged Mad Elf. Beer is 13.1% and is the aged version of this famous beer from the brewery.

    onto my review:

Sampling a 375 ml bottle that is corked and caged. I purchased at the brewery last Christmas time. So its been in my cellar for about 11 months. the beer pours into my trusty snifter a rich mahogany color with garnet highlights. A minimal khaki colored head foams up about .5 cm and fades to a sturdy edge layer and one large island in the center of my glass.
Aroma is a lot of cherry notes and some sweet bourbon hits too. Not really boozy on the nose and no hop character to speak of on this beer. Smells like what I would expect knowing the base beer.
First sip reveals a lighter body than expected and very fine and tingly carbonation. Texture is smooth and the beer drinks surprisingly easy.
Flavor is some sweet cherry notes, a bit of toffee and then some bourbon notes coming over. generally a sweet beer but not candy like. Never any hop flavors on the beer and not boozy either even with the higher ABV.
the beer is good and hits the notes I expected for this beer. Im glad to have tried this one and I would definitely buy it again if I see it this Christmas at the brewery. Worth a purchase.

Free Will Brewing Co. - Ralphius - Coffee
2022 Vintage, so it has been cellaring for two almost two years. This is a big beer at 14.4% yet it hides the alcohol surprisingly well. The coffee flavor has probably faded, but it's still very tasty, complex, and the year of bourbon barrel aging has integrated the beer and spirit flavors very nicely.
