Howdy all, I've had a couple new beers this weekend, one while doing a flooring project, one that isn't in the database yet and as I drank it from the can. The name of it is Cuzzy and it's a "Thiolized New England Pilsner"
I've seen that term on IPAs and this one reminded me more of an IPA than a pilsner.
The hops list: Motueka, Nelson Sauvin, Riwanka, and Rakau. Yet for all those it was a muted IPA-ish lager (Pilsner? that's what they say)
It was refreshing though, I'll give it that.
Oh, and the sandwich was sublime; curry chicken.
The floor install darn near killed me, I could hardly walk when I get home.
My nightcap helped. And a lot of ibuprofen.
Back soon, hopefully the next one is in the database.
    Cheers!

Got a late start to the day after spending the first 5+ hours of it (starting at 06:00 on a Sunday!) watching that unbelievable final at Roland-Garros. Wow what a match! So finally getting around to having a beer—another anniversary beer from Firestone Walker, this their 26th from 2022. Preliminary review (still under construction) below. Cheers!

12oz bottle into a tulip. Pours a dark brownish mahogany with a half-finger head that dissipates quickly to a narrow beige collar.

Aroma is big dark stone fruits—figs, dates, plums—and rich caramel malt. Vanilla, brown sugar, molasses. Sweet and complex.

Taste follows nose. Lots going on here but the main theme is sweet (countered by an appropriate bitterness) and strong. Dark roasted malts, toffee, floral Old World hops, boozy bourbon.

Mouthfeel is thick and coating, heavy but not cloying, lingering finish. Nice boozy warmth.

Overall another expectedly fantastic anniversary beer from the master blenders at FW.

My nightcap from last night - grabbed this as I really wanted a big stout to help things stop hurting. It was meant for a SAN but needs must!
The pour is old oil black, with a light brown head that dissipated fairly quickly (which for the ABV is expected)
The taste leads with chocolate with the vanilla accenting it rather than standing on it's own. It tastes like there is lactose in there, but it;s not listed as an additive. The coffee/espresso finally shows up during the second half of the beer as the sweetness tapers off a little. During it all the stout is present. Soft and smooth, sweet but not too sweet.
The feel is lightly viscous, appropriate for the style, and it was welcome to sip slowly as muscles finally started relaxing.
I’ll have one for tonight, not sure which one yet.
    Cheers!

A couple new ones so far today..

#1 Ronan Cooperative Brewery - Sheepshead Stout

    Notes:
P black, 1f tan head, med heavy lace
N med to med bold Hershey's choc, roasted malt, coffee, pleasant
T roasty malt and coffee throughout w/ just a touch of choc sweetness, finishes w/ a fair amt of roasty bitterness
Mf med-full bodied, med to med-high carb, nice mouthfeel
    O one nicely done stout

#2 Sun King - Java House Cold Brew Martini Stout (courtesy of @jzeilinger :beers:)

    Notes:
    P deep mahogany/black, 1f khaki head
N bold and inviting combo of choc and rich espresso; excellent nose
T sweet blend of choc, espresso, light roast, cohesive and super tasty, light boozy notes, but no heat, dotted with vanilla, espresso comes back around in the aftertaste (character akin to a choc covered coffee bean)
Mf smooth, creamy, light-med bod, med to med-high carb
    O outstanding stuff

    Cheers!

Poured from tap, the body is a lightly hazy, straw-yellow with two fingers of fluffy, white head. Light lacing.

Aroma is a cracker malt with light clove though no banana esters.

Taste follows nose as the clove is the main flavor with added notes of banana and light vanilla. I'd personally prefer a bit more banana flavor, but it's not underdone.

Mouthfeel is medium, soft with strong carbonation.

    An enjoyable summer beer.

I got to catch bits and pieces while we were visiting my tennis loving dad today. I can’t believe how it ended. How they play for that long is mind blowing, it’s a great sport.

Prairie Albino Rhino White Stout ( strikes 1 & 2 for me usually ) 6.0% ABV; 2.88 overall

Pours a bright & effervescent gold with fast falling beige head. Zero head retention & lacing

S: Some vanilla, cocoa & coffee, hints of wet dog once warm

T: Follows the nose, plenty dry. some roasty aspects up front. More vanilla, some coffee, & dryness once warm, coffee on the fringes. Finishes dry, with faint coffee grinds & vanilla

Medium body, dialed back carbonation, skews sweet

Not a fan of the White Stouts, if you are going to do this go imperial & don't' F around. This just needs more across the board, this one is lower rung for the sub-style. Maybe one of the worst misses from Prairie, ever. Only redeeming features; I bought a single & the can art

I am not taking to this seemingly new style of fruit juice brews. But appropriately for the thread, here is Weekender from Two Pitchers Brewing in Oakland.

Aroma is startling and seriously fruity. The taste is super-sweet and totally fruit juice with a touch of carbonation to help the medicine go down. I would say this tastes almost entirely unlike a beer. For a second I thought there was a bit of hop taste but apparently it's citrus peel, which gives it a little heat. As fruit juice, this might be good in a spritzer with a shot of gin. The passion fruit nose is so relentless I want to wash it out with something beery.

    Intrepid Orchid
11.2% vanilla barleywine by Bottle Logic

Poured from bottle, the body is an opaque black with small initial head. Not much lacing.

Aroma is an intoxicating mix of sweet bourbon and light vanilla.

Taste follows nose. The bourbon is present but not warming despite the ABV and its sweetness is medium, not anything near cloying. The vanilla, my biggest fear, was, deftly done, mixing well with the bourbon and staying restrained. The mix is an easy drinking barleywine. As the beer warmed, notes of oak and dark fruit were revealed.

Mouthfeel leans heavy. Luxurious. Carbonation low but present.

    A treat.

    Icarus blonde ale
...appearance is a cloudy amber with a thick lasting head
...medium light carbonation with a thin body
...aroma isn't very strong but theres earthy bitter hops out front, some citrus peel and not too much else
...taste to me comes off like a watered down ipa way more than a blonde ale.
....overall ill wait to review it officially but it literally and figuratively leaves a bad taste in my mouth [IMG]

I finally got to drink one today and because it’s Sunday, it’s a barleywine-
    [IMG]
I really think I need to drink more Barleywines. These are quite good.
The look is darker than expected with a manilla colored head which leaves spotty lacing.
The taste gives the impression of sweet without being sweet. Butterscotch and toffee, dates and leather. Delicious.
The feel is viscous, not quite syrupy but getting close.
Another really good beer from Jackie O’s.

Cabin Boys Brewery ( Tulsa ) M23 Stoutfire Imperial Stout 2023 aged for 11months in Woofford Reserve Double Bourbon Barrels with Abrol Chilles, 13.0% ABV; 4.09 overall

Pours an effervescent cola/mahogany color with rapidly falling mocha colored head. traces of head retention, no lacing, plenty viscous

S: Bourbon, traces of Chilles, cola & vanilla

T: Follows the nose, some cinnamon notes, dryness up front. Cola, Bourbon, & a little Vanilla & more persistent Chille heat once this beer is warmed up. Finishes with Some Chilles, cola, vanilla & smooth Bourbon

MF: Medium body, low carbonation, warming, somewhat lacking for the style

Good, but the lack of carbonation doesn't keep up with the rest of the beer, ABV is well hidden

I’ve been drinking new beers for most of the day but I wanted to post one more “official” review - Bur Oak Brewing Co.’s Missouri Monster Dark Ale, or MOMO. It’s a Belgian Dark Strong Ale. Reddish-brown with cherry notes and a small, ecru-colored cap and minimal lacing (3.75). It has a nice smell with cherry, brown sugar, and caramel (3.75). The taste is big and bold with black cherry/dark fruit, caramel, brown sugar, and bitter char (4.0). Its mouth feel is thick and syrupy and the 9.5% ABV gives it good substance (4.25). Overall, MOMO is a very good Belgian String Dark Ale. It was nearly sold our but I was able to snag a couple of cans. Cheers and have a great week, everyone!

Humble Forager - Cedar, BBA barleywine from @bbtkd.

12oz can served in a tulip. Can is not dated as far as I can see. Got it from @bbtkd in Stout/Barleywine BIF #2.

Pours very dark brown, not black and tarry but in lower lights it would be easy to confuse them. Smell is boozy, oaky, horehound and root beer, some vanilla and toffee, lots of nuts. Something in between cola and Dr. Pepper.

Taste is sweet, cola and nuts. Vanilla, burnt toffee, lots of molasses. Booze is quite noticeable, but not quite as powerful as I expected from the aroma. A little bit of coffee bitterness?

Mouthfeel is thick, still, chewy. Very nice beer.

    Barrel Aged Northwind
Pours motor oil dark, almost black. Khaki colored head pushes a firm finger in height before settling, slowly, slowly, slowly, to a thin ring. Good retention with slight lacing.
Nose abounds with some mildly sweet notes (chocolate), some mild roast, a smooth and barely warm booze note, and maybe a hint of vanilla. Tempting.
Wow, the flavor is even better. There is a nice start with the chocolate notes, hints of caramel and molasses. Some deep, but gentle coffee with a hint of woody barrel char. Then she warms up a bit. Now the bourbon notes come in. Not strong, but a firm, slow rising brings a rounded out in your mouth warm hug.
Mouthfeel is a bit chewy. I like the. Smooth swallow. Warm.
