    2021 Triple Stout by Tripelroot

Poured from a twelve ounce can, the body is dark brown. Very little head and no lacing.

Aroma is light coffee, bourbon and chocolate.

Taste follows nose with all flavors amplified. A bit of booze is detectable, but nothing approaching the ABV. Notes of vanilla, coffee and chocolate work beautifully with the sweet bourbon. Nothing overly complex but very effective.

Mouthfeel is thick and coating. Low carbonation.

Luxurious stout that was a bourbony treat.

Drekker Blueberry Swirlee Creamsicle Sour, 6.7% ABV. Pours opaque maroon with a small light-purple head that left puree residue. Aroma is blueberry and vanilla ice cream. Taste is strong blueberry, vanilla, and lactose, quite sweet, slightly tart. Creamy mouthfeel, sticky lips. Overall excellent.

Cheering the not-Vikings (Eagles). South Dakota can't have an NFL team, because then Minnesota would want one.

Greenhouse Aleworks ( Rogers, AR ) Linden Czech Amber w/Saaz Hops, 5.0%; 3.95 overall

Pours an effervescent honey color with one finger of eggshell colored head. Average-ish head retention & lacing

S: Bready, grassy, perfumy hops once warmer

T: Follows the nose, fairly dry, hay notes up front. Bready & honey sweetness, grassy & herbal hop bitterness, some dryness as this beer warms. Finishes sweet with enough grassy bitterness leave you wanting more

MF: Medium body, restrained carbonation, well balanced

Super easy to drink nice take on the style

    1715. A 4.5% pale lager by Lvivske.

Pours gold that is clear with after a brief chill haze. Decent head. No lacing.

Initial funk aroma quickly dissipates leaving a light grain sweetness.

Taste follows nose with the malt bill carrying the load. A minor hop note on swallow trails off at finish. Light and balancing.

Mouthfeel is medium with good carbonation.

    Easy drinking lager.

Social Project Brewing Dig Hop Kiwi Double Hazy IPA w/Citra, Nelson Cryo & Galaxy Hops, 8.1% ABV; 4.12 overall

Pours a hazy gold/honey color with 1 finger+ of eggshell colored head. Good head retention & stellar lacing

S: Citrus, melons, a touch of strawberry. Orange comes on strong once warmed up

T: Sweet orange, pomelo & passion fruit, green melon up front. Some pineapple, bitter orange, some kiwi fruit once this beer warms up, guava too. Finishes dry with pomelo, guava, passionfruit & sweet orange

MF: Medium body, subtle carbonation, good balance

Super solid offering but no unity of purpose in the flavor which is a bummer

    Happy NBS!
Today I moved a light switch for a three way configuration and two light fixtures. The person that wired it originally was not clear on the concept but somehow it worked.
To celebrate figuring it out I drank a porter that may be the most I’ve ever paid per ounce for a beer.
Spoiler, I might go back and get another one.
The pour is darker than my soul, with a deep brown head that left sheets of lacing.
The taste, oh my, where to begin? The coconut is the only flavor that stands out from the pack, but it is subtle and works really well. The honey is indeed noticeable, not sure what muscovado sugar tastes like but it is likely in the flavor profile as well.
A little bourbon brings the ABV in sharp focus and adds another layer of flavor.
The base porter is a huge part of this beer, some chocolate and mild coffee, some wood char which might be the only thing keeping this in line.
The feel is absolute viscosity. This was meant to be sipped and savored. I highly recommend that you plan at least an hour.
OA, amazing porter, quite possibly the best tasting one I’ve had and I live near Perrin which sells an assortment of different barrel aged porters every year.
Very happy I took a chance on this. It is truly good.
Cheers! Back later with my gaming beer!

Two week old can from the Rochester Pop Up shop this weekend, pours milky yellow with a one inch head that dissipated to soapy ring. Aroma is tangy fruit, starbursts. Taste is melon, some pineapple, passion fruit , lemon heads. This green is hopped up with the associated bitterness. This one wasn’t as Creamy as the name would suggest, it’s less harsh as I get it mid glass. This has smaky, and leaves you with a puckered aftertaste. Show you can be fooled by a name. Oh well, I have many more options in the beer fridge.

This afternoon I am waiting for some friends to join me at Function PDX, a place that hosts monthly "pop-ups" for 2 out-of-state breweries each month. The guests for October are Burgeon Beer Co. And there Does Not Exist, both from California.

I'm starting with a barrel-aged imperial stout, as you do.

    Burgeon Breakfast on Tap

Coffee and bourbon share top billing in the nose, and it is a most agreeable partnership. There is also a gratifying amount of maple. Dark chocolate, vanilla, and caramel round things out. Oak, baking spices, and a touch of anise provide delicate counterpoint. Not too sweet! The body seems light for a 12% stout, but the texture is silky. Alcohol heat lights up each sip, which is fair, considering this beer spent about 42 months in a Wild Turkey barrel.

Very nice beer. I sort of wish I'd ordered a full pour, but there are other New Beers to explore here at Function this afternoon.

This is Uber dem Meer, a German style Export Helles Lager from Blood Brothers Brewing of Toronto. 6% ABV.

Pours a not-quite-transparent copper/gold with ample pillowy head. Dissipates slowly to a thin veneer on the top of the beer. Minimal lacing.

Light cereal aromas, herbal notes. A hint of lemongrass.

The herbal notes are stronger on the tongue with a light soda cracker sitting in behind. A mild but noticeable bitterness on the finish.

    Medium body with good carbonation.

A nice Helles. Blood Brothers keeps improving their lager offerings. This was quite nice and I’d gladly enjoy it again.

    Cheers!

I like Imperial Stouts, especially Russian Imperials, if they're Barrel-Aged, so much the better, an anniversary edition even better.
A: Dark brown, thick, oily looking, nice brown head, even some lacing.
S: Nose gets chocolate, roasted malts.
T: Chocolate, vanilla, some coffee and a hint of booze.
F: Oily feel, coats the palate, well carbonated, incredibly smooth at a sessionable 13.9%. Certainly warming on this 48° fall afternoon.
O: I always enjoy Russian Stouts, this is one of the best. Call the scores 4.5 across the board.

Light gold and clear body jam-packed with lively, tiny bubbles; thick, white head, long-lasting, dense with a creamy texture on top. Wonderful cereal grain aroma infused with some zesty, peppery hop scent; a hint of floral qualities. Clean taste; mild biscuit; refined hop bitterness balances things; Noble hop flavor. Medium-heavy body; soft and creamy; crisp; fine note of dryness rounds things out.

This is a superb Oktoberfest offering. Very balanced with a respectable complexity and well-rounded. Quite enjoyable.

Good evening. I've got one that piqued my curiosity but also said possible impending trainwreck. Let's see what happens-

This is Convergence from Barreled Souls. The can says it is a blend of West Coast Pale Ale and American barleywine dry hopped with Simcoe, 7.4% abv. What could go wrong?

The beer pours an opaque deep gold color with 3/4 inch of dense white foam. Superb retention and lots of sticking to the glass.

The smell opens with citrus and piney resin, earthy, some other vague fruitiness. It pretty much presents as a pale ale or WC IPA. Underneath is a little sweetness and a bit of malt.

The flavor is similar but the barleywine adds a lot of depth. Grapefruit, resin, maybe orange, light berry, earthy. Once all that's gone by the barleywine portion comes in with some sweet malt and some caramel. There's a bit of bitterness on the end and the aftertaste is very pleasant - there is a clear contribution from each part of the blend.

The feel is silky and smooth, moderate carbonation. Kinda neutral on the dryness.

This is going down far easier than it should, and while it sounds a strange union, it works. It's pretty tasty and reminds me of something like DFH 90 minute or even 120. If I didn't read the can I might say it's most like a DIPA. Like the flavors and the boost the barleywine provides - can't be much in there since it's only 7.4%, but the influence certainly shows.

It's not in the database. UnTapped has it as IPA - other. We don't have that so I think I'm gonna stuff it under Pale Ale but could go American IPA just as easily. Whatever it is, I'm thinking around a 4.2. Hard to score by style, but the taste and smell are great and I'm glad I have another one to enjoy.

    La Chouffe
8% Belgian blond ale by Brasserie d'Achouffe

I have enjoyed this ale for years but it slipped through the cracks. This time the pour was from tap. Not many notes but here's a few. First time on tap for me.

Body is light orange with good head and lacing. Same delicious clove, coriander, malt and fruit flavors. Spicy finish that cleans up nicely. Bitterness is present but it's mild to my palate. The perfect Belgian blond ale in my books.

    Good mouthfeel and strong carbonation.

    An excellent beer.

    Black Butte XXVII

12oz bottled 06/10/25 poured into a tulip glass at fridge temp 12.9% ABV. The beer pours pitch black with a hint of brown when back-lit. The head is medium brown in color and settles to an uneven ring & island. The aroma is mild with chocolate, orange and a hint of wooden barrel. The taste is bittersweet roasted malt up front with the chocolate, orange, barrel and lactose coming through in stages. Moderately bitter. The feel is medium plus bodied with average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Overall, very good. I was nervous about the tequila barrel, but the tequila is subdued by the adjuncts with the end result quite tasty.

    Cheers all!

Most of you have probably had this one before, I used to see it every year but it disappeared and I didn’t expect to see it again. So when I did see it, I grabbed one.
The pour is transparent amber with a tooth white head that leaves rings of lacing.
The taste begins malty with caramel and biscuits, then the hops kick in providing an edge. The piney hops are almost dominant but the bready malts won’t give in.
The feel is very full, a little viscous. It almost seems to clash the flavors.
OA, glad I finally decided to give this a try. It’s not what I expected but it is quite good.

Clear, brownish-orange pour, darker in the glass; very thick head, light khaki color; densely foamy; sticky splotches and fingers of foam inside the glass. Fresh-baked pumpkin pie nose; mildly charred dark brown sugar; caramel; roasted nuts; cinnamon, cloves and allspice. Light malt base, sweet with the spice flavors in the foreground. Rather light body for a Scottish ale (even with the pumpkin); sticky smoothness with a touch warmth.

What I enjoy with this pumpkin beer are how bold yet balanced the spice elements are.
