When I did make the Michelada, it took a lot of V8 to counter the booziness & sweetness of those 5 ounces

Thank you for this information. Lots of great memories! Do you happen to know the date of NBS #540? I'd like to go back and see what beer(s) I reviewed that day. This is my first missed NBW in memory. I'm "struggling" through a dry couple of weeks to take off some pounds before my physical in early March. I look forward to rejoining this fun thread in 2 weeks. Cheers, all!

Inspired by others, I dug into my BA history a bit. My first NBS post was NBS Week 485, June 8, 2014 hosted by Maria (utopiajane) during Dave and Maria's tenure as alternating hosts. The beer of the day was Smuttynose Farmhouse Ale. I joined the site in November of 2011 and posted my first review on 12/17/2011 and I posted mostly in WBAYDN to that point - a lot of new to me beers didn't make it to NBS. So the question - what took me do long? I think I hesitated to post with my sometimes clunky reviews compared to others, but I finally figured out the only way to get better was to dive in headlong and join the party. Sure have enjoyed every minute since. I've learned much and truly relish this thread and all who keep it lively and enjoyable. I'm quite reticent by nature, but I have come to truly enjoy sharing here in the best virtual bar there is and join in supporting the adventurous spirit of Beer Advocate.

Here's to keeping this train rolling!!! I'll be back this evening with a big ol' barleywine while I'm watching the snow fall. We are as prepared as we are gonna get at this point...tractor full of fuel, ten gallons of diesel on standby, a weeks' worth of food and a cupboard full of stouts and barleywines!

Seems like it would've been sometime around June of 2015 - since the initial post of @Victory_Sabre1973 was NBS #560 in mid-November 2015.

You are smarter at me in the search methodology. I could see back to 2019, not sure how to link it to my posts

    Athletic lime and salt.
...semi cloudy pale gold appearance with a thin lasting head
...medium carbonation with a close to medium body
..aroma is lime, fruit and peel, salty corn chip with mild cereal in the background
...taste isn't complex but stays close to the aroma
...overall this one of the best na beers I've had and mostly due to it not tasting of wort or rotting vegetation [IMG]

    This banger is from @mlench10

Revolution Brewing Deth By Raspberries Imp Stout, 11.0% ABV; 4.03 overall

    Poured at 52 F

Pours an effervescent, purple-tinged mahogany/dirty brown with a pinky of mocha colored head. Stays effervescent throughout the pour, viscous

S: Plenty of raspberry, not much else breaking through, pleasant but doesn't make think big stout until late in the game, a little dark cherry. You get sweet & tart on the nose, a little smokiness late, red grapes

T: Boozy raspberry puree, oaky notes, a little coffee, tartness & some woody hops up front. Dryness, mostly tart, but a little sweet raspberry, baker's chocolate& woody/oaky notes as this beer warms up. Finishes with oaky notes, boozy raspberry, dark cherry & a little red wine

MF: Medium body, slight carbonation, some acidity from the berries, warming. Carbonation picks up once warmed up, sticky on the teeth

Decent offering, but a little one dimensional until near room temperature; the raspberry is the star of the show. Drinks easy enough

Congrats on the victory. It was quite a game. It felt like Canada stole momentum early in the 2nd and was the better team the rest of the way. There was a bit of goalie-ing going on, but Canada also flubbed a handful of grade-A chances. In a game while that, the team that plays better doesn’t always win. The team that buries their chances does.

There is lots of second guessing of everything up here, as one would expect. But, two great teams played a game and one had to lose.

I like 3 on 3 in the NHL to try to avoid the shootout. I agree with those that would rather it not be the way an important game like this one is decided. Them’s the breaks.

As a Habs fan, I’m pleased with the tourney. Suzuki looked like he belonged and played a very solid 200 foot game. Slafkovsky was the darling of the Games and should be in the starting 6 of any ‘team of the games’ list. Considering he plays for a Slovakia, that’s impressive. Even Kapanen who finally got into the bronze medal game for Finland looked like he belonged. When you add the fact that both Hutson and Caufield wouldn’t have looked out of place on the US team (and maybe better than a couple guys who were picked for the team), and Demidov would be a first line player for Russia, I’m pretty peachy about the Habs’ future.

Can’t wait for the ‘real’ hockey to start up again. @jonphisher , lots of the pundits here in Toronto are hoping for a bit of a sell off (OEK, Reilly, McMann, Domi) to recoup some draft capital trades away the past few years. Not sure how you feel about that. I just hope their first rounder doesn’t go to Boston at 6-10….

I’ll be back with a beer later if I can get my kids through their homework and to bed at a reasonable hour.

    Cheers.

Bought this one a couple years ago for a trade and it never went through. So I tried it out of curiosity.
Might have been a little generous in my rating as the can was packaged over 2 years ago and IPAs generally are not aged.
The pour is pale orangish yellow and transparent, the head is almost an inch tall and it left sparse lacing.
The taste is better than I expected, peaches are heavily favored, some non distinct citrus (though tangerines came to mind) and an herbal finish.
The feel is a step more than crisp, but that could be due to its age.
OA, it’s pretty good, may need to try a fresh one.
I’ll be back soon with what might be the oldest beer in my cellar.
    Cheers!

Agreed - a lot of names from the past. The "brute force" method if scrolling thru my content was interesting. How my participation has changed but also how the various forum topics have evolved. Fun...tedious, but fun.

pFriem Family Brewers -- Fresh Hop Barrel Aged Saison
    Fresh hop barrel aged saison

Mildly cloudy light gold body; sparse, coarse streams of carbonation; fair head, white and dense yet patchy; rings and fingers of foam lace the glass. Sublimely balanced nose of gentle brett funk and wet white oak; hint of citrus. Incredible taste of soft wheat, lemongrass, white peppercorns, lemon. Medium bodied; soft with a delicate velvet feel; a touch of juiciness, a dab of dryness.

Simply - wow!!! What a gorgeous take on the saison beer style. The beer is incredibly nuanced and balanced, exuding brett funk, low-key barrel-aging, and elegantly refined flavors. Amazing!

    ----------------------------------------------

...I really do enjoy saisons and wild ales, yet, for whatever reason, this was one of the last beers of my box of pFriem's Local 451 Artisan Club beers a month or so ago...being a fresh hop beer, I likely missed out on some of the nuance of such a beer...in any case, this is still a beauty even at three months or so of age...

A quick new beer between responsibilities.

This is Export Stout from Bellwoods brewed in celebration of Black History Month. ABV 6.5%

Pours a deep black brown with nice cappuccino head that sticks around as the beer is enjoyed.

Slight char on the nose with toasted grains chocolate and a little smoke.

The chocolate notes pop out more on the tongue with the other aromas taking a back seat.

Body is medium/full with a gentle bitter note on the finish.

Good stuff from Bellwoods as usual.

    Cheers!

Central Waters Brewers' Reserve Single Barrel Stout
    11.1%

Poured from a twelve ounce can, the body pours a jet black with light mocha head. Excellent lacing.

Aroma is a lovely light barrel and chocolate.

Taste follows nose with the bourbon up front but met by a robust bitterness. Notes of chocolate and a wee bit of vanilla keep this stout balanced.

Mouthfeel is very good, very soft and luxurious. Carbonation good.

A very enjoyable stout on a cold winter’s day. Thanks to @LesDewitt4beer for this delightful beer.

    NBW people.
    Greetings and Salutations!
I went on a legend quest journey through the beautiful historic Hudson Valley of NYS for fabulous and rarely visited breweries. Fidens - Wayward Lane - Suarez Family brewery… All stellar and legendary. You just need to trust me that these are top notch. Oh, and we visited Bard College for my daughter’s grad school audition. Loved the journey, loved the school.
Note to @GreenBayBA : this Saturday’s quest for the grail was as you foretold. The Horoso used his light force of the living to breach its masters, dimensional prison escapes, an Age of Darkness was nearly averted! I saw ghosts and spirits on my personal acceptance of my inner Mexican teenager in this horror- fantasy- comedy.
Btw: the all of this description is in Anime, as you must know it is.

Canned 2/9 poured 2/22 pours thicc, luxx, glug glug with a ripe full 3 finger head. Aroma is zingy lime, light and bright tropical and garden fresh basil, sweet light herbs. Taste is immediate passion fruit, peach, zesty lime, not big grapefruit but my salivary glands feel like I had a big chunk of pineapple, the twang & flavorful tweek of the back sides of the tongue. This is a flavorful detonator in my mouth. It’s got a hint of sprite as well. Feels creamy, medium carbonation. Excellent hazy from an excellent brewery. It was worth getting stuck in the snow this.

Me: Ass, Grass, or Gas. Nobody rides for free
Wife: you lack three things: muscles, Carhartt pants, and common sense

‘yeah , I got stuck in a snow ditch at this brewery, I was rescued and then forced by common decency to buy another round for my countryman, super friendly, kind, helpful rescuer .
It’s what we should always do in America!

OK - buckled down, Celtics game on, nothing to do but shudder in antici.............pation...

    Oh and have a beer:

Barreled Souls, Big Bang Barleywine aged in Russell's Reserve Bourbon Barrels for 13 months, 3 days. Bottle 650 of 720, born on 08/05/2024. Big boy stuff - 13.6%.

Pour looks kind of ho-hum brown until held to the light. Crystal clear deep, deep (garnet?) red. Quarter inch of cream colored head that falls to a hefty ring of really fine bubbles that cling like mad but leave no lacing residue. This is a looker - let's hope everything else lives up to the visually stunning appearance!

Plenty of sweet bourbon on the nose with caramel/toffee/brown sugary overtones with just a bit of vanilla. Getting some dark fruit - fig and date. A different sweetness - like honey or maple syrup but vague and not strong enough other than delivering a side note. Some oaky spiciness.

The taste - just WOW. There's actually some hoppy resins going on over everything else. The oaky notes come to the fore rapidly followed by rich bourbon and a much more noticeable vanilla. Medium sweet - dark fruity sweetness leaning more towards dates and raisins. Brown sugar and caramel come through clearly. I get a touch of honey (not maple), dark bready malts, and a spice like snickerdoodle cookies. As the taste fades there's a little tiny bit of anisette-like spice. There's also a little kiss of stone fruit that does a really fast fly by - seems like apricot.

It's a little less than medium-bodied on the feel. Smoothly carbonated. Slightly drying with a tad bit of residual sweetness. There's a little phenolic oak sting in the aftertaste and a lingering flavor of those cookies. And in the PSA portion of my post - it's drinking far too easily for a 14% beer.

Oh...I am sooo shocked here - a slam dunk from a Barreled Souls barleywine? Yeah - it's their jam...I get it. At least a 4.5 on the BA-o-rometer here. Another noteworthy brew from Saco, ME.

-- If you've seen the 1 million beer thread, it was kind of a call to arms for adding beers to the data base. Well, here I sit...retired, basically snowed in with resources at my fingertips...danger, Will Robinson. I've gone thru the MA breweries one by one using the places list here. I'm somewhere in the letter T and have added 750 beers this month (1033 total - way more than I have reviewed). And I have not even gotten to Trillium or Treehouse yet. Found a bunch of places to add to the Wannavisit list. It's an impossible task to keep up with the beers out there in the wild - especially with draft-only breweries and flavor-of-the-day "IPA factories" where a minor formula change means "yay new beer". I think it adds value overall though - we can show and kind of track the range of a brewery and provide that resource for people who may want to visit said brewery. I have been surprised that in this day and age quite a few breweries (and not necessarily the smaller ones) have absolutely crap web sites. Makes me appreciate our little home here even more.
