Second of hopefully three or four. This is a Belgian-Style Farmhouse Ale with Peaches, added to the database here as a Belgian Saison.

Full review linked above. This is a solid traditional Belgian Saison, with the added peach adding / complementing versus overwhelming you sometimes see with these fruit added offerings. Solid, recommended pour at Revolution, this is a small batch so likely on a few weeks.

Stubborn Brothers Brewery and Sprecher Brewing Honey Vanilla Cream Ale. I am excited to try this beer. Sprecher Brewing craft beers and sodas are legendary in Wisconsin. Before I could purchase alcohol, Sprecher Brewing cream soda was my go-to celebratory beverage. Stubborn Brothers Brewery is a newer brewery, northwest of Green Bay, Wisconsin. The look is somewhat clear peach, with a lot of bubbles, but no foam. The smell is honey vanilla cream soda. It brings back many fond memories. The taste is what I hoped for. The finest cream soda, with a honey and vanilla finish. It is not too sweet, which I was afraid it would be. It tastes like a refreshing cream soda, but you can feel you are drinking a beer. The mouthfeel is soft, yet sparkly, clean, yet full. It is savory. Overall, this beer is quite a treat. This is made to be mixed in with an all-day Wisconsin tailgating session.

Look: pours a cloudy deep gold, big soapy head, decent lacing

Smell: resin, earthy, pine, blueberry, alcohol

Taste: resin, blueberry, pine, peach, grapefruit, tangerine, earthy spice

Feel: med body, mod carbo, bitter

Overall: Coming in strong at 9.1% abv and I can taste it. Boozy diesel fuel. Big resin upfront on the nose and taste. Blueberries were the dominant fruit and then it shifts to the peach, tangerine, grapefruit mélange. Finish is earthy and spicy with good bitterness. I like this brew and would love to drink more. Pairs well with Fuel by Metallica. It honestly does. Cheers!

Last one, as there is plenty left and this is very strong and sweet. Digging this a lot, a one off variant, but worth a try if still on. Full review linked below.

Kane Barrel Aged Holy Nights Imperial Pastry Stout, 13.4% ABV. Pours thick and black with a ring of light-brown bubbles that left wispy lacing. Aroma is strong chocolate and light bourbon. Taste is roast malt, fudgey chocolate, and vanilla, moderately sweet, slightly bitter, no bourbon burn. Excellent smooth and thick mouthfeel, leaving slightly sticky lips. Overall world-class.

Impressed that they use real wax, so it didn't take a knife to open. This ticks New Jersey in my 50-state review goal. I'll be checking off another state tomorrow, then I'll have seven to go.

Sadly, it looks like Manitoulin is closing up in a few months. The island will be left with Split Rail as the sole brewery.

Nice! I didn't need Kane to check NJ, being on the east coast and having visited the state a good couple handful of times (though only once for beer). That said, I feel I haven't really gotten to experience the brewery you posted about as my tick for them is their ubiquitous IPA.

I might need a trip to fix some things. If only there were some NJ BAs around to help me out if I actually follow up

Happy new beer weekend everyone, a doozy of a week and weekend. Living with the in laws is great but wearing on my brain, miss our home and the privacy and tranquility it brings. Glad for little snippets like this when I can mindfully dissect a beer with you all.

Started morning with baseball for the youngest then coached two lacrosse games for the oldest. Mrs. Phisher is away for the day with her softball teammates for the day out in Bethlehem, PA. Holding down the fort and parental duties, I’ve earned this one!

    ---------

It is not every day that a small little brewery from south jersey wins gold at the World Cup of beer. Wander Back Beerworks is an, almost all, lager brewery that exclusively uses malt grown and malted right here at home. When their physical taproom opens it will be in the farm town of Vineland, NJ.

I think it is funny looking back…early on, “drink local” was drinking small mostly PA craft breweries. Now here I am over a decade and a half later drinking local beer, brewed closer to home and with Garden State malt. I’d say that is quite an accomplishment for beer, and I’m guessing others can say the same of their breweries in their state. Hooray to us all!!!

I’ve had several of Wander Back’s beers and they have all been good. I have not however had this one, the newly crowned gold medal winning beer, I present…in the Phillie’s seasonal cans…

Pours light gold, it has a deepness and brilliance to it, very close to crystal clear with an attractive white head, slow to settle, lacks retention once it does.

First thing that popped out of the glass for me was spicy grass like hops; these notes die down fast, upon settling and warming there is freshly milled malt along and fresh baked bread that has slight graininess.

Taste is more about the malt than early nose suggested; beautiful pale malt; bread, again fresh, full and finishing with great melanoidin presence; hops are tame but noticeable; lightly spicy on the finish.

Light body with great fullness of malt complexity present; quick drying finish, a beer that vanishes when the sip is gone; light and balanced hops on the tongue with just a pleasing tad of bitterness; smooth carbonation.

This beer is incredibly well constructed; it is highly drinkable, has depth if you take your time to notice it but this is a beer that would disappear from your glass before you know it.

This beer is very well priced at $11 a six pack…any beer drinker would appreciate this beer, any beer nerd in this thread would LOVE this beer. Cheers to gold and cheers to Wander Back.

Probably it for me new beer wise this weekend and I look forward to getting us started next weekend, though it will be hard to top that opening @vurt.

See you all around the rest of the weekend and have a great week, keep the beers coming.

Funny you had bierstadt @JackHorzempa if I remember Brian mentioned that beer in his conversation about this beer.

Seven tribesmen iron forge American amber ale
...a very dark amber/caramel appearance with an impressive lasting head
...below average carbonation with an odd body in that I thought it was thin but it has a syrupy feel to it
....aroma is caramel, malt, molasses and mild fruitcake but I mean that in a good way
...taste has some sweetness that builds leaving a bit of a syrupy caramel aftertaste which pretty much dominates. There is the fruitcake, molasses as well as mild hops in the background
    ...overall its very enjoyable [IMG]

Good evening fellow NBW crew. Dreary day here. Got a storage unit delivered last week and we are moving as much out as we can for when the addition building starts. Mostly small furniture, but boxes and boxes of books and sheet music. Some books will go to various contacts we have. Sheet music - a little conflict. It's got no monetary value, but I'm 100% sure some of it has historical value. Some sentimental as well. At our age there's no reason or need to stockpile it all. It seems sacrilegious for musicians to just dispose of sheet music. Big mess of an emotional/logical conflict.

So...tonight's beer is from Maine and NOT from Barreled Souls...

Belleflowet Barn Hex, 8.2% NEDIPA. Only problem is I don't know for sure which variant in the series this is, so I'll go with the one currently on tap. Hopped with Mosaic, Strata, and El Dorado.

It pours a hazy pineapple yellow with a pure white, dense, foamy head. Loads of lacing as the head recedes to a thin cap.

I'm getting a fruity melange in the smell. Some melon, some citrus, peach/apricot, maybe a bit of strawberry. A little grassiness and floral scent emerges. A little sweet bread smell.

The taste basically follows but it slants to the citrus and tropical for me. The combination comes across as pineapple-like with some orange and grapefruit. There's melon notes and that strawberry thing. A backdrop of sweet malt. The fruitiness lingers like Juicy Fruit in the aftertaste. Mildly bitter.

The feel is soft, mildly carbonated, smooth, a little juicy/sticky. Easy drinking.

Balanced favors overall - smoothly integrated. It's a nice drinking beer. Right in that 4.0 - 4.2 range.

My first New Beer of the day is from Portland's own Living Häus:

    (Matching glassware!)

The body is sunstone yellow, with a loose head of white foam that departs quickly and leaves minimal lacing. The nose is bright and clean, with notes of lemon-lime soda, grapefruit peel, and cannabis. The flavor opens with a fleeting glimpse of sweetness followed by a burst of grapefruit peel, lime zest, a bit of pineapple, and a tentative suggestion of crackery malt character. There's really not much else there. Bitterness is moderate, but it dominates by entering early and staying late. The aftertaste is pink grapefruit seltzer, lemon peel, and a whiff of weed. Super-light-bodied with zippy carbonation.

Overall, it's crisp and refreshing and pretty one-dimensional. I couldn't tell you what the wheat brought to the table. A little tropical or pine character, or even a smidge more malt, would make this a much more enjoyable beer.
