I just had Insanity tonight (this beer, but barrel aged) and I think you'd like it. I don't think it has been released in a while though.
Good evening BAs! Tonight’s new beer took me 6 weeks to find, and is my style tic #130 - Brewery Ommegang’s Passport Royale, a sour IPA: Poured deep gold with excellent clarity; two fingers of fluffy white head; ok cap retention with heavy ring and spotty lace. Sour fruity nose; kinda funky. Taste is on the one hand semi sweet stone fruit, but has a funky finish; no hop bitterness. Medium light body; moderate minus carbonation. Overall, this is a semi funky IPA that has no bitterness. 4.25 | 3.75 | 3.75 | 3.75 | 3.75 Score: 3.78 rDev - 6.2% I’m not exactly sure what the point is…there is mild funk from the mixed cultures, but no bitterness to even vaguely resemble an IPA. Glad to get this tic off my bucket list…one and done!
One more New Beer before we put this thread to bed: Threshold Svarog Jopen Style Ale (also billed as a "Polish-style barleywine") Very nice brick red color with orange-amber highlights. A loose head of eggnog-colored foam sputters to life then vanishes, never to return. The nose is deeply carmelized malt, whiskey, oak, vanilla, prunes, stewed plums, and a little toffee. The flavor opens with sticky toffee pudding drizzled with bourbon. It's incredibly sweet but I do like the malt depth and the prominent barrel character. A variety of fruits follow: the prunes and stewed plums from the nose mingle with pie cherries and dates. Underneath the fruits are hints of anise, vanilla, and cardamom. Whiskey attempts to rein in the sweetness in the finish, but doesn't have much success. The long aftertaste offers bourbon, caramel, cherries, a hit of woody bitterness, and a light (but extremely welcome) touch of smoke. The body is thick and syrupy, with slight carbonation and substantial alcohol warmth. The sweetness should be a turn-off for me, but every sip gives me a nuance that makes me look forward to the next one. I'm glad I had the chance to try this one.
Oh, just ONE more from the West Coast-- Belgian-Style Pilsner from New Belgium Aromatic with straw and cake. Light and lively brew. Faintly sweet with a little croissant flavor. Finish is resiny and increasingly bitter. This is so light the bitterness seems excessive. Otherwise it’s well crafted as you would expect. From the 12 pack of Belgian-style brews purchased at the supermarket. Dated 22 FEB 2026.
