[IMG] Poured into a 13 oz tulip glass canned on 7/30/2020. Pours a hazy yellow with a 2 finger sticky white head that leaves thin streaks of lace, with solid retention. 4.5

Smell is papaya, tangerine, peach, apricot, and white grapefruit. 4

Taste follows papaya, peach, tangerine, apricot, and some bitter grapefruit. 4

Mouthfeel is bigger than medium, a tad sticky night dry, soft gentle life, and at 7% ABV goes down easy, but loaded with flavor. 4.25

Overall this is nice, maybe a little unbalanced but a nice NEIPA but expect better from Foam. 4

Trying a style I have not had before, a Kvass. This evening I thought I would try Bread Tie Knots from Fonta Flora. This beer pours a clear orange color, with a slight white head, that dissipates quickly. It smells of tart strawberries. The taste follows the smell, nicely tart with lots of strawberries. It has a medium body and carbonation. Overall, I would compare it to a tart farmhouse ale.

I really enjoyed it. it only has a 2.8 % ABV, and after a hectic day, it was a really nice change of pace.

    Cheers

Dreadnaught was available in 4-packs a couple of months ago, but didn’t hit any of my locals.

I’m still recovering from that egregious slight.

    Good evening NBW
Picked up a local at the liquor store here in Lafayette

Ol' Tavern Beer from People's Brewing (AAL)
    The review:
16oz can stamped BATCH # 6770619201 poured into a shaker pint at fridge temp, no ABV listed on can. The beer pours mostly bright light golden amber in color with off white head. The head recedes to a thin ring and little else. The aroma is faint with grain. The taste is straightforward two row malt with a touch of sour mash and minimal bitterness. The mouthfeel is thin to medium bodied with average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. No diacetyl, clean. Overall, ok to good. Not sure how old this is. Not a fan of batch numbers instead of dates.

I'm sure I will accumulate a ton of reviews from Peoples Brewing before my son finishes his schooling here. Can't wait to hit the taproom, but not ready for all that yet. Cheers all and enjoy your new beers!

Second Son from Mason Aleworks. This one is a blend (50/50) of B.A. Baracus (barrel-aged barleywine) and Cash (barrel-aged coffee stout). Opened at fridge temp. Pours very dark brown/black, with nice (but quickly receding) head. Nose appears dominated by BA Baracus (barleywine) - lots of toffee and vanilla. Some of the coffee is coming through from the imperial coffee stout. Really nice strong notes of dark fruit - plums, figs, blackberries. Roasted malts are making an appearance as well. Nice and earthy. The taste is freaking amazing. I can taste the coffee stout and bourbon barrel-aged barleywine, and the intersection of the two is glorious. I honestly didn't expect to like this as much as I do, as the merger of things sounded odd. So much flavor! Coffee grounds from a dark roast, vanilla, toffee, licorice, burnt toast, a bit of spice, burnt wood, raisins, cherries, figs, and a bit of dirt/earth. The initial kick is sweet, but there is a bit of a hoppy resin in the aftertaste. So interesting. The 14% ABV is well hidden.

    look: 4.25 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4.5

I didn't see anyone answer this already, but if I missed it, forgive me.

Its the 2010 Duvel glass from the Dutch artist Parra. Duvel has a series of glasses where artists put their particular spin on their classic tulip.

[IMG] Poured into a 8 oz tulip glass bottled on 6/21/20. Pours a slightly cloudy dark yellow with a half finger sticky white head, that leaves loads of thick lace as it slowly settles. 4.25

Smell is cacao nibs, vanilla, butter scotch, hazelnut, and dry coffee grounds. 4

Taste follows cacao, butter scotch, vanilla, hazelnut, and some coffee. 4

Mouthfeel is above medium, plenty of life, maybe a little dry, and at 8% ABV it drinks rather easy. 4

Overall this is nice, nothing special. I will have no problem drinking the rest, but probably won’t seek out again. 4

:grin:Canned 5/26/20 by OEC in Connecticut

It’s so cool what B United (or OEC?) is doing with these beers.

A super tasty perfectly snappy pilsner. The bitterness is unique on this one because it’s there but it is super soft/gentle if that makes sense. Lingers for a second then poof it’s all gone and I want to take any other sip to relive it. The carbonation on it is pretty nice too I think that combine with that unique bitterness make this a super clean and drinkable beer. Taste is crackers, little peppery, and clean citrusy. It’s a little cloudy but unfiltered I expected that so no surprise. No lacing or real head retention. Smell: a beautiful perfect weather spring day

I’m glad I grabbed a four pack and not just a single. Cheers.

I believe it was this beer, but I'm leaning towards agreeing with @WesMantooth (which is disconcerting of itself) in that Ayinger hasn't lived up to the plaudits I once gave it. I'm sure at some point this year I'll give it another shot to find out.

Ugh! But a different topic that has a separate thread

    Congrats!!

Humble Forager - Forest Fortress: Imperial Pastry Stout with Coconut, Hazelnut, Coffee, Vanilla Beans, Cocoa Nibs

I have been drinking a good amount of Humble Forager beers this year. They kill their Coastal Sunshine fruited sour series and I find most of their IPA's solid as well. This is only the second dark beer I have had from them with the other being Gypsy Outpost - Imperial Pastry Porter with Coconut, Vanilla Beans, Cocoa Nibs and Cinnamon

Neither of these beers are overly sweet but I prefer the Forest Fortress. The thickness is great, the flavors mingle together perfectly and the hazelnut really pops. There Imperial Porter had some metallic notes in the can that weren't present in the stout.

I recommend this beer and I really recommend their Coastal Sunshine series as well.

    Cheer!

A light pour from a 32-oz. "Piglet" yields a finger of off-white creamy foam with long retention and rings of lacing. Very cloudy, I can only see shadows through it. Yellow straw color, shows orange-gold in bright light.

Wet bread and a blend of hops greets the nose. Citrus juice, toast and crackers in the background. Some grass and grain join the ride to the taste.

Semi-sweet, bitterness begins moderate then creeps up to above average. Juicy; general citrus, apple, pear and orange marmalade try for sweetness. Malt flavor is mild, averaged out by the juice. The hops are spicy/peppery, herbal with a lot of citrus. Flavors drop off slowly during the finish as the spicy/peppery hop bitterness lingers a while.

Medium light body, plenty of carbonation. Soft on the feel, nice balance of juicy sweetness against drier malt and bitterness. Alcohol is very well hidden, makes this Beer deceptively drinkable.

I buy one 500 ml every year, and it’s enough for me, it always comes off as a bit too sweet. Thick and a bit viscous for me kills its drinkability. I’m much the Pale Fest beer guy.

I'm enjoying Ayinger's Jahrhundert Bier much more than the last one, even though it's apparently even older.

500ml bottle served in a pint glass. Stamped L0041, based on something I recently learned, that sounds like February 10th, 2020, so it's not particularly fresh. That sucks. Bought it at Elizabeth Station in Bellingham, WA.

Pours a clear light yellow with a decent sized head that sustains quite some time. Smell is grassy and honeysuckle with just a little lager yeast. Taste is bitter, with a little honeysuckle. Refreshing.

Mouthfeel is light, crisp, and dry. Overall, this is pretty nice.

Alright, finally sitting down and enjoying this nice start for the Flyers.

Next up for me today is going to be a new pilsner from Logsdon Farmhouse Ales - Ferragosto an Italian-style pilsner.
Ok, so lets get this out of the way. In the words of one Regina George - "stop trying to make Italian pilsner happen" ... at least thats how I remember that line. Its just a dry hopped German pilsner - something German brewers have themselves done. That being said, the few Italian-style pilsners I have had so far have been quite delicious.

This one pours a very pale straw yellow color. Lightly cloudy. Thick pillowy white head dissipates almost as quickly as it farms leaving just a thin layer of foam on top of the beer. Aroma has notes of sweet straw, white bread, with a nice hoppy aroma that is lightly spicy, but also very green and fresh.

Taste follows the nose with notes of white bread, straw, and a spicy herbal hop bite on the back end lingering into the finish. There is an odd light tangy flavor that I suspect is coming from the yeast, but I am not 100% sure. If it was a bit clearer, this would be delicious. Feel is light, crisp, vibrant and refreshing. Lightly dry on the finish with a slight bitterness that coats the palate.

Overall a really nice pilsner, and enjoyable. But with that slight tanginess in the flavor profile, I am not sure I'd pick it up again.

And finally, a little cameo in honor of the Flyers first goal.
