Good afternoon, weekenders! I had to spend some time on the back deck, and no better way than to pair with a fruity "sour," right?

Greetings from Holly Beach is in no way a sour ale, but it is definitely fruity! It both smells and tastes like a tropical cocktail, perfectly suited for a picnic table on the beach. Pineapple and mango dominate, along with hints of coconut.

There isn't much beer in this beer, though. Fruity tropical cocktail? Delicious? Yes, and yes! But it hardly reminds me of a beer in any way.

If I happen to again find myself stranded on a tropical beach for half a year, this would be a wonderful companion to while away the hours (not that it would be available, but we're talking hypothetically here). It doesn't quite have a place in my regular drinking routine, though.

I love that can! Being sold in four packs I assume and if so, how much? I had heard about this beer but thought that it was brewpub only, nice to see I can try it sometime outside of there.

2nd new entry comes from the Dry Side of Washington, and the Old West themed town of Winthrop, where the local brewery is a building designed to look like the town schoolhouse. Shockingly enough, the brewery's name is Old Schoolhouse, and this is a collab with Imagine Nation Brewing, No Cause For Alarm. A pretty average murkster: https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/46349/

Oskar Blues Death By King Cake White Porter, 6.5% ABV. Pours cloudy orange with a two finger off-white head that left some lacing. Nose is vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Taste follows, plus chocolate, moderately sweet, slightly bitter. Decent mouthfeel if a bit undercarbonated. Overall very good, I've had worse, though I had hoped for more.

Another tiny 12oz can I found hiding in the back of my fridge. I rarely buy 12oz cans anymore, though my cellar has a fair number of Prairie, Founders, and Central Waters 12oz bottles I need to chip away at.

I don't recall the exact number but it was around 10 bucks for the four-pack at the KoP Wegmans.

As a FYI this will not be a repeat purchase for me. I much prefer the 'regular' DirtWolf.

    Cheers!

[IMG] Poured into a 16 oz Nordic pint glass canned on 5/10/21. Pours a cloudy orange yellow with a finger sticky white head that covers the sides of the glass with lace, with excellent retention. 4.25

Aroma peach, papaya, ripe melon, passion fruit, mandarin, and apricot. 4.25

Taste follows cantaloupe, peach, papaya, passion fruit, mandarin, and apricot really balanced, with a little bitterness. 4.25

Mouthfeel is above average, fairly gentle carbonation, not dry or sticky, and at 8% really easy drinking. 4.25

Overall this is definitely worth a shot. Not dazzling but really well made and tasty. 4.25

Hey everyone. Took a week off from my favorite thread as we hit some new breweries last week. I was too busy enjoying the vibes to review. I did post a little on WBAYDN and later in the week reviewed some of the places.
This week for this thread I have the Twelve Percent Project's House Lager.
For those of you that don't know, the Twelve Percent Project is a brewery facility and distributor that offers their equipment and marketing to smaller breweries to scale up their brewing and distribute the beers to a wider market.
They also have an onsite taproom where they pour the client beers as well as some of their own.
Today's beer for me is one of their own. Probably one they brew for the tag along people who ask "Do you have anything that tastes like Bud?" BTW, it doesn't really taste like Bud, but I think it would pacivate the BMC drinkers and thrill the craft lawnmower beer aficionados.
Hard to see in the pic, but it is labeled 5% ABV.

Poured from a 12oz can dated 05/18/21 to a "can" glass.
Body is golden and clear but the glassware is fogged by condensation. Head is an enormous white pillow despite a non-aggressive pour. I had to pause to get the entire 12 oz in a 16oz glass. Head fades in about 3-minutes to manageable but laces aggressively.
    Aroma is sweet and grassy.
Taste is very bread-yeast in the front, slight hop bitterness in the middle with a sweet malty finish.
Mouth feel is nice and light with aggressive carbonation.
This beer is well done for the style. A lawnmower beer extraordinaire.

Rainy day put a dumper on the plans for today but still enjoyed the day so far. Hoping to go out in the evening so enjoying some lighter, DC Brau In Session. Drinking from the can so just an informal review today.
Nose has a good amount of citrus and grapefruit along with be earthy/grassy and a touch of pale malts. Taste is very close to the nose, touch earthier. Overall this is an enjoyable and easy to drink session IPA. Would rate it just under a 4.

Good Saturday afternoon, New Beer Weekenders. It's been a washout - weather wise - today and the forecast for tomorrow is worse. It's a shame but we really need the rain here. This afternoon's new beer is from a local brewery, Bolero Snort. It's been awhile since I had a new beer from this brewery. For several years, BS was a gypsy brewer whose offerings ranged from praiseworthy to forgettable. They finally moved into a new brewery facility in the Meadowlands in 2019. For some reason I don't see as many of its beers on the local shelves. Now that most of the COVID restrictions have been lifted I should pay another visit to the brewery. Cow of Silence is a Belgian Pale Strong Ale. It's well-brewed and ticks all the style points. Not special but certainly enjoyable.

It pours a hazy, bright golden-honey color with almost a finger of creamy, bright white head and thick lacing. A most attractive pour. The nose is typical Belgian with banana, clove, coriander, and the unique aroma of Belgian yeast. It's a bit sharper and hoppier than the smell would indicate. It opens with tangy banana and green apple. The spicing is strong; add pepper to the clove and coriander. And there is a significant hoppy finish. It's tangy and crisp. The body is moderate and the carbonation is lively. You can feel its 10.3% ABV. Overall, Cow of Silence is a well-executed Belgian Strong Pale Ale. I enjoyed it.

    Snake River Brewing Zonker Stout

This happens to be the highest rated export stout on BA at this moment in time.

    The review:
12oz can stamped 03/02/21 poured into a tulip pint glass at fridge temp 6% ABV. The beer pours dense, black in color with generous and lasting mocha colored head. The head recedes slowly to a one inch cap and leaves a web of lacing covering the glass. The aroma is mild featuring dark cocoa & slight ash with a nutty, earthy undertone. The taste is more dark chocolate with a caramel balance not found in the aroma. Mild bitterness. The mouthfeel is silky & medium bodied with less than medium carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Overall, excellent. This is a superb example of a disappearing style. Export stouts, done well, offer the character of the imperials with much better drinkability. Would definitely acquire and drink again.

    Cheers all!

    Back with another.
This is Kittens And Canoes from Beer'd, a lighter play on their flagship Dogs And Boats. This NEIPA clocks in at 5.7% vs. 9.1% for D+B. Not sure I like the name of either beer, but they taste good.

Poured at fridge temp to a can dated 04/05/21 to a Nonic.
A medium white head sits above an opaque hazy tangerine-colored body.
The smell is fruity.. orange rind and nectarine with a musty background.
Taste is similar maybe with a hint of melon and a nice bitter finish.
Body is a little thin for the style.
Overall good, but I think I would rather drink Dogs and Boats if both were available.

    Hey what's going on?!

Well kind of an interesting start to the big weekend here. We had quite a good change in the weather with the temps dropping with much added rain. I had to ditch the shorts! not fun.

Still the cicadas are out big time, but the chill has kept them quiet now, it seems like they are in hibernation..

Well anyway, still much tasty beer is around. Mixing it up for new beer today! What new beer am I having? Why I am having one of @JackHorzempa 's beers!

Classic American Pilsner (Bottled March 3rd 2021).

Super bright white, and bleach bright booming head. Making quite a soapy appearance and an easy three to four fingers in height. Some retention surprisingly but settles at a good clip. Very nice bubbly body, lots of fine linear carbonation through a slightly dark yellow, mostly clear body.

Aroma feels like a more amped up but not overboard pils. Good hits of herbal hop, sweet mowed grass as well. Clean sensing profile, no sticky malt or tacky yeast sensations either. Minimal sense of bread, but a bigger sense of crispness it seems, touched by just a hint of honeyed bread.

Palate goes for a bit more down to earth but fairly boosted. Good simple light body, with a clean mid palate, a bit more hop angle bitterness and finish, which gets a little numbing to some degree. Lots of hop pushing as further consumption continues, almost oily. Clean but neutral, with not much sensing malt character.
Overall biting and aggressive but still rooted in a neutral base it seems. Fun pils.

    L 4.25, S 4.25, T 4, M 4, Overall 4

    Cheers!

I opened a new can of this beer for this thread. This beer deserves special attention. It is a worthy cause, and this collaboration beer recipe was created by Eagle Park Brewing, my favorite brewery in my hometown of Milwaukee, WI. This beer was brewed by McFleshman's Brewing, in Appleton, WI, just down the road from Titletown, USA. It is a hazy IPA, made with blood oranges. The appearance is golden-orange, with a creamy white head. The aroma is white grape, peach, orange, mango, and grapefruit. The taste is orange, mango, tangerine, and lemon. The mouthfeel is juicy, tart, and champagne-like. Overall, this is a very flavorful, juicy, hazy IPA, with a luscious mouthfeel. I hope to try other versions of this beer, and I hope it helps brings awareness to mental health in the craft beer industry!

    Trying again.
Okay, so I had a rather large Willow tree break off and drop its crown into my yard.
The chainsaw did great for much of it, but there is sooo much tree. About an hour into it I thought I should have a beer.
    Great Lakes Dortmunder Gold.
I had no idea what Dortmund implied but it won awards so it must be okay, right?
Poured a transparent warm amber color with a brief off white head and gave very little aroma. (Or maybe my sinuses were a bit clogged from working outside)
The taste was really good, the hops so carefully balanced that they made the malts taste sharp instead of lending bitterness.
The feel was perfect, and when I finished (too soon) I kicked myself for only buying one.
Good beer, very refreshing and tasty.
    Cheers!

Many thanks @EmperorBevis for providing me with an authentic example of an English Pale Mild Ale, my 112th style tick here on BA. Only American Dark Wheat Ale to go now, which is quite elusive for me, unfortunately...

    Torrside - Half Measures

English Pale Mild Ale from England (2.6%).

Pours a cloudy, dark amber coloration with a medium, fluffy head. Smells of doughy, slightly grainy and caramelly malt and grassy hops.

Taste is an excellent balance of doughy, slightly grainy and caramelly malt and grassy, slightly floral and resinous hops, with just a hint of black pepper and pine coming through as well. Finishes with a light/medium bitterness and some grainy malt, grassy hops and black pepper lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a light/medium body and medium carbonation.

This wasn't quite what I expected, but in a very good way. While it's quite difficult for me to comparatively rate this to style, seeing as it's my first ever Pale Mild Ale, I thought that it was impressively flavourfull and full-bodied for such a low-ABV brew, with a great balance of grainy, slightly sweet'ish malt and grassy, mildly bitter hops, with the hints of pine and peppery spice from the rye malt adding a bit of a welcome punch to this.

Overall, this makes for an enjoyable, easy-drinking Mild that's surprisingly flavorful, with a firm malt base and distinct hoppy accents, while the body is particularly impressive for such a light beer.
