Aroma is awesome, lightly toasted bread and just a tad of something sweet in there too. Head dissipated but there’s a lingering frothy creamy head that stays, makes for a very appetizing look. What caught me off guard is how opaque this one is. It may be chill haze cause it’s clearing a little as I drink it but it is still staying a little hazy. I feel like most imports seem to be crystal clear so for me that’s different here.

Very good taste much like aroma taste is darker wheat bread maybe even pretzel like and very full. Still very clean and easy to drinking though. Carbonation is perfect almost has a draft like mouthfeel smooth and creamy.

Overall you very good full flavored marzen that goes down nice and easy. Really glad I grabbed a few bottles. Very enjoyable stuff.

Good afternoon, New Beer Weekend comrades...today's new beer is a surprising new beer to me, because I would have guessed that I had tried it before (actually, I may have tried it, but I don't remember and I didn't review it).
Ignore the bourbon for now. I'll get to that in another thread.

330ml bottle served in a tulip. "Enjoy Best Before" 02.21.

Pours a rich amber-copper color with a big head that fades in a few minutes to a small head. Medium carbonation. Smell is rich toffee and barley, a whiff of grass.

Taste is similar -- not as sweet as I was expecting from the smell, I get almost a roast bitterness, I definitely get a lot of toffee. Not 100% sure how to describe the bitterness I get from this, but I'm enjoying it. Maybe a burnt toffee.

Mouthfeel is medium, not heavy, definitely not light. Overall, very nice beer.

Definitely better than the Spaten Oktoberfestbier Ur-Märzen I had out camping earlier this week.

New Beer #3 is a review an hour in the making (the kids have been very demanding of my attention, and refuse to stick with any one thing for more than 5 minutes). I'm sticking with hazy IPAs for now, and going with a rather older craft brewery: Coronado's Pineapple Farm, a 6.5% ABV hazy IPA with pineapple, lactose, and "pineapple flavor."

Pineapple flavor? Why do you need pineapple flavor if you're already adding actual pineapple? And lactose, to boot? Ah well. The hop bill is Simcoe, Azacca, and Amarillo.

Questionable ingredients aside, this is a pretty tasty IPA. The pineapple doesn't stand out much above the hop varietals, to the point that you probably wouldn't guess any fruit was added if you didn't already know. The body is creamy with just the right amount of bite; in terms of mouthfeel, they nailed it, and this is much more what I had in mind (as opposed to Life in the Clouds).

    It's tasty; I like it. It's not mind blowing. I'd happily settle for a 4-pack, I think.

    3.82 / -2.6%

Funny the way the numbers work out, as this clocks in 0.01 below Life in the Clouds, even though I think I like it better. Whatever; they're both firmly in the 3.75-4.00 range for me.

    Cheers!

Just finished packing up several boxes to ship out to NBS BIF #12 participants, now it's on to my next beer.....Little Sip from Lawson's Finest Liquids. I came in well under rDev on this, which is pretty consistent for me when it comes to IPAs. I enjoy them, just not as much as most BAs. This was fairly crushable & I'd definitely drink it again.

Canned 7/31/20 and poured into a tulip. Pour resulted in two fingers of fluffy head that eventually left behind moderate amounts of lacing. Color is fairly light, and fairly clear. Smell is sweet & floral. Doesn't waft out of the glass, but when up close, it smells quite nice. Taste has very faint notes of grapefruit, but overall almost tastes like a session beer with a lightly piney finish. This is a clean and crisp beer that goes down very easily.

    Mikkeller Nelson Sauvin Brut 2020

Pours a slightly clouded amber color with a bigger, stable head.

Smells of intense blue cheese, leather and flowery herbs among caramel and lighter oak. Got a juicy white wine grape hoppiness to it, blending into old apples and lime zest.

Its mouthfeel is light and refreshing with a well developed, sparkly effervescense.

Tastes of dry, bitter hops whichs apperance get enhanced by an equally dry wood quality, entangled into tart funk and floral white wine grapes. The acidity in this gets more pronounced, pretty much filtering everything out from the palate with the exeption of dry hops and sweet caramel malts. Finishes even sweeter, heavier on the malts, with some balancing dry hops, light leather and an ongoing tartness.

Solid, with a peaking, unpleasantly unbalanced sweetness, numbing down pretty much anything else, apart from the prominent dry- and tartness in this.

Buffalo Ridge Court Jester Quad, 9.7% ABV. Pours dark reddish brown with a half finger beige head. Nose is malty and sweet, taste follows, slightly sweet slightly bitter. Not a strong or particularly great flavor, though not horrible either. Decent mouthfeel, overall very good.

I don't rate many beers under 4, but this wasn't the best quad I've had. Not a drain pour, but wouldn't have it again. The Cajun fries that I had with it were outstanding though, and the beertendress gave me a number of samples of her favorites.

Fraugruberlicious - Kirsche, a fruited Kettle Sour with 38% cherries by German brewery FrauGruber (4.8% ABV).

Pours a deep, dark, ruby red coloration with a medium, fluffy, pink head. Smells of tart and juicy black cherries. Taste is very much dominated by the slightly sweet and quite tart black cherries, with a light underlying lactic, citric acidity. Finishes with a medium/strong tartness and some black cherries lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

While this is rather one-dimensional, that is to be expected of the style and, just like their other Fraugruberlicious editions, this makes for a rather enjoyable fruited Kettle Sour that feels very fresh and natural, with a great, juicy cherry character and a good balance between sweetness and tartness, although this is a bit more sour than previous editions, which I personally don't mind at all, but may be a bit much for some people.

Indeed Brewing Co. -- Pistachio Cream Ale

    4.28/5 rDev +4.1%
    look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.25

Bright and clear, deep golden body; lots of lively carbonation; thick and creamy white head. Light smell of warm bread and some nutty, woody elements. Huge flavor combination of nuts and caramel plus toasted grain; honey; mild hop bitterness. Medium body; crisp and warm on the palate; gentle residual sugar presence; semi-dry overall.

I didn't know what to expect from this beer, but it is pleasantly surprising. It brings a fairly light yet warm, malt-forward taste to the palate with a pistachio-like quality overall. The hop bitterness starts out lightly but builds a bit in intensity and nicely complements the malt and nut elements. Very fine overall...
    --------
This was a beer I acquired through Tavour. Per my usual, I only bought two. I wish I had gotten more.

It is definitely sweeter (but not terribly so) than the Robin Hood Cream Ale I traded for with @Pinz412. It matches the fairly light body and smooth mouthfeel one would expect from a cream ale. The pistachios just add a more interesting dimension to the style. So, without a doubt, I would buy more of this unique beer in a heartbeat...

Interesting, I had that beer with some age on it, and I thought it was sweet because it was old, but your review shows it is sweet even when fresh. Good to know. Interesting beer and style nonetheless. Cheers!

Actually looks like I had the Nelson Sauvin Brut Dry Hopped, and the Nelson Sauvin Brut Chardonnay Barrel with oranges and passion fruit. Still, similar beers.

New beer #3 today is also style tic #105...I’ve had Imperial Reds in the past, just never reviewed any here...Bell’s “This One Goes To 11”...let’s go!

Opaque deep amber/reddish pour; off white head; poor cap retention leaves a small island of micro dots, thin ring and spotty lacing; thin legs on swirl. Nose is sweet cherries, pine and honey. Bitter orange, pine and booze; sweet malty base; boozy cough syrup finish. Medium body, sticky resin feel, moderate carbonation; warmth in mouth from 11% abv; no astringency; dry woody finish. Overall, the alcohol, sweet and bitter go back and forth (similar to how sweet and sour pork dishes do so), an interesting juxtaposition of countervailing flavors; and it reminds me of how much I like the boozy bite of aged DFH 120, yet dangerously easy easy drinking; a rare, for me, sum of the parts triumphs score-wise; I like!

    Good evening, New Beer Weekend!

I was pleasantly surprised see this beer on the shelf. As with other fruited lambics from Tilquin this bottle was $14.99.

    Oude Myrtille Sauvage Tilquin (2018 - 2019)

Look: Murky and almost opaque. Crimson liquid (in the sunlight) with light pink foam that settles to a thin ring around the edge of the glass. Away from the sunlight the color is a darker purple like grape juice. Some visible carbonation. No lacing. This beer is attractive.

Smell: The nose on this beer is incredible. A melange of sweet, jammy and tart blueberry, lemon, orange, floral, powdery, (more than I recall getting in Tilquin) barnyard funk (manure), peppery, sweet spiciness, herbal bay leaf, grassy.

Taste: The tip of the tongue is sweet blueberry. Mid palate it goes slightly sour and bitter. A soft lemon juice acidity with tart blueberry, blueberry skin and raspberry. Peanut and peanut skin. The finish is dry, woody, and leaves a pleasant, crackery wheat finish.

    Feel: Semi-dry and well carbonated.

Overall: The is one of the more expressive Tilquin beers I’ve had. The nose is highly complex, and the flavor is wonderful with a nice tart blueberry profile.

Second and probably last new beer of the day (but not the weekend), Levante's Strataphonic.

16oz can served in a Flat Stick Pub can shaped glass. Dated 07/13/20. Bought it on Tavour.

Pours a hazy pale yellow with a medium-large head and medium-high carbonation. Smell is super juicy, very bright citrus. Lots of lemon.

Taste is juicy and bitter, a little bit of a creaminess to it, bitterness I think comes across as lemon rind or pith, maybe some pine.

Mouthfeel is light, almost fluffy. Overall, really nice beer.

That Widow Jane is supposedly brewed with cave water from a mine cave quite near to here. Pretty sure I visited it back in the day when I got my nickname, and before it was used for the whiskey.

And now for something completely different: Anachronism (batch 2, with tart Michigan cherries), a Koelschip wild ale from Transient, clocking in at 6% ABV.

Now this is something! Points deducted for appearance; in all honesty, it's an ugly beer, murky and flat with plenty of floaties.

Beyond the appearance, though - wow! One of the most truly sour wild ales I've had in ages. It doesn't really scream cherries, especially on the nose, as they blend with everything else. I'd say there's an emphasis on rustic, musty funk on the nose, but the emphasis on the palate is unquestionably on sour notes.

It's an absolutely lovely beer, and I'm appreciating every sip. I'm less appreciating the idea to split this with my Michigan-born partner.

Happy Saturday afternoon/evening BA’s. I had plenty of beer in the fridge already but saw the sixers of Oktoberfest just arrived at the local supermarket when I went to pick up a few things so why not?!

It’s not their best but it’s an easy drinker with nothing offensive or off putting, and the price is always right. I know 2015 is the one everyone speaks of in hushed tones and it was great, but I really liked their first one that was released in sixers and mixed packs. It was also the hoppiest version, IMO, and that fall mixed pack was great with the Vienna and Kolsch I believe but know for sure it had Vienna. Everybody have a good one, cheers!

Pours dark gold, very clear with a little head and wispy lace. Not much on the aroma, a little bready malt and dark fruit. The taste is bready, malty, the aforementioned dark fruits and subtle german hops. It’s also pretty clean, crisp, and dry for what I think is supposed to be a Marzen but this hybrid drinks well in the hot weather. It’s not their best, but still good and very drinkable with a price point that won’t kick you in the ass, cheers!

Saison D'Epeautre, a Saison brewed with spelt by Belgian brewery Brasserie de Blaugies (6% ABV).

Pours a clear, golden coloration with a medium, frothy head and slightly visible carbonation. Smells of slightly bready, grainy malt and estery fruit and spice notes of green apple, pear gooseberry and clove.

Taste is a great balance of slighty bready, quite grainy malt, floral hops and expressive fruity and spicy yeast esters of tart green apple, pear, gooseberry, clove and white pepper, as well as some grassy hay. Finishes semi-dry, with a light sweetness and tartness, as well as some green apple, gooseberry and clove lingering in the aftertaste. Effervescent, velvety mouthfeel with a medium body and medium/strong carbonation.

A very nice Saison with a great balance of grainy malt, floral hops and estery fruit and spice notes, with a rather dry character, mild tartness and lightly sweet and bitter accents, as well as a great, velvety mouthfeel. Your typical, old-school Belgian Saison, but with a truly lovely balance, making this a joy to drink.
