Thanks to Craig, @Whyteboar for this one. I put this on my WANTS list in 2014! Score.
    Superfluid by Short's Brewing

Pours a beautiful gold. White fluffy head rises 2 fingers and slowly settles to a thin, consistent film. Really nice retention. Light, layers of lacing.
Aromas of sweet grain, pine resin, floral citrus, and coconut bring a thoroughly captivating combination.
Flavor follows the nose faithfully. The sweet grain, pine resin, and lemon blossom flavor starts off. But on the backside, some tropical pokes in as well: coconut, pineapple, and papaya. But the coconut is a pleasing, subtle find here. It's not heavy handed.
Mouthfeel is medium, slick, mildly carbonated, and has a gentle alcohol warmth.
Overall, this is a really nice DIPA.

You are correct sir, it is called Jrön, which is the düsseldorf dialect for green and is a collab between Uerige and Kehrwieder brewery. Should be getting released within the next couple of weeks I guess.

Good morning NBS/NBW and thanks @SawDog505 for hosting on this I'm certain was a busy week for you! Congrats on the new digs.
Well most of the leaves are down, we were not as affected by the weeks storms as our friends in the eastern part of the state. Todays offering is a big, bold stout from J Wakefield. My first time with this brewery, Apple Brandy Barrel aged Moral Imperative . Frankly it will take a long time for me to wrap this 750 ml bottle up. With all the heft and the sweetness I feel the offering is quite good.

Poured from the 2021 release, 750 ml bottle into the test glass
A - Bottle opened with the slightest hiss. Pour yields a very thin mocha cap. The cap is quick to exit. Dark as can be. Cobalt black. With bit of coaxing a thin ring can be recreated. A syrupy signature takes its time to slide down the glass with each pull.
S - Fudge, coffee notes include blackberry, char, cigar wrap tobacco. The apple brandy barrel adds a fruity sugar to the nose. all this rides on a cloud of alcohol that is omnipresent.
T - Well, the dark fudgy cake is the boss here, chocolate, char, apple cordial, with a rise in temperature, a peppery thread emerges, there is an unabashed alcohol presense. Anise plays in the mix as the offering warms
M - Thick and syrupy, sweet start, sweet mid, sweet finish. The palate is blitzkrieged and made to surrender. Linger is for days, with each pull an alcohol evaporation, acts as a counterbalance to the sweet slick texture.
O - A bold offering that holds a steady course, not bashful with the boozy big palate. I really want to throw a scoop of vanilla ice cream in the glass! The offering is thick, heavy, sweet. I keep coming back the word saturation. Glad to have had the opportunity to try this

First new beer for today comes courtesy of the first box @Coronaeus sent me a couple weeks ago. This can of Each Beast a God from Third Moon Brewing seemed like a perfect Sunday morning beer. The can describes it as a "Bourbon Barrel Aged Double Stout with Coffee and Maple". Clocking in at 8.5% this is no light beer, but fairly approachable.

Pour is the darkest of dark browns, and almost black. Decent amount of medium density tan colored head that lasted for a minute or two before receding to a thing ring / cap. Aroma really jumps from the glass, with maple dominating, especially from afar. It's almost a little overpowering up close, but from a couple feet away, it smells amazing. The coffee is there, but faint.

The taste is more balanced than the nose, with the coffee more easily identifiable alongside the maple. This beer is plenty sweet, driven by that maple, but not cloyingly so. Best consumed as a sipper. I'm not picking up much barrel either via smell or taste. Feel is full bodied and velvety smooth. There's a nice gentle alcohol warmth but no burn.

Overall this is a very tasty Sunday morning beer.

Good morning, Weekenders! I'm almost ready for new beer number 2, as I've been sipping on this one for near an hour now.

@FBarber hit me with four NG bottles; I split them all with my partner. I saved this one for last, as it was easily my most anticipated - and on my Wants list, as well!

The last cherry beer I had was too much; the cherries came over a touch medicinal, like cough syrup - and I love cherries!

That is not the case here. The cherry flavor here is huge, but completely natural and balanced, like biting into a ripe, slightly tart, semi-sweet cherry. There's a light sourness from the beer that fits naturally with the cherries.

Mouthfeel is surprisingly thick, especially given the low ABV (4%, quite typical of NG). Really impressive beer from start to finish.

I thought about making it a Mystery Beer because it's a bit out there. I definitely got strong blueberry, even going in the direction of blueberry bubble gum. I like it, but I would not drink more than one before switching to something else. Glad you found it interesting.

A new beer from a new to me local brewer, Black & Gray, Laux Brau a Russian Imperial Stout.

A nice dark brown, tan head, aroma of dark fruit, some chocolate. Very smooth, alcohol was well hidden, not as bitter as some of the others. If I see it again I'll pick up another 4 pack.

New beer #2 follows closely on the heels of #1 this lovely Fall New England Sunday: Smog City Infinite Wishes, an imperial stout aged for a year in bourbon barrels.

I'm very glad I had this on a different day than Tree of Promise (4.66 / +4.0%); this is a fantastic BBA AIS, but of a very different character. I think the low level of sweetness, after such a thick, creamy, sweeter BBA AIS/BW, would definitely stand out. That just shows the importance of reviewing on a clean palate.

It really feels like a 'tweener, somewhere in the middle between AIS and RIS. It's not particularly sweet, and there's a lovely level of roast and light char, but it's not as bold and bitter as, say, BBA Old Rasputin, or even BBA Narwhal. Many BBA IS are thick and at least moderately sweet; this one is rich in a very different way, leaning on the roasted barley and malt expression, and the interplay of the bourbon flavor.

As to that bourbon flavor? It's prominent on the nose, and impactful on the palate, yet brings very little harshness. There's also an interesting component to the flavor that is difficult to describe other than "bourbon mash." It's semi-sweet, but it's neither vanilla nor coconut, as some bourbons express; I think the closest I can get is candied orange.

Overall, this is an outstanding BBA IS. Enjoy it on a clean palate, or at least one not saturated with sweet or overly hoppy beers; this is a beer that rewards careful, savoring sips and introspection.

Continuing my journey through the Sam Adams Beers for Cheers variety pack I come across their Holiday White Ale.
The label describes this 5.8% witbier as "Citrusy & Hazy”, an “ale brewed with spices”. The website lists cinnamon, nutmeg, and orange peel as “special ingredients”.

Very nice looking, amber/orange with a thin white head that quickly dissolves into a long lasting ring with a couple of islands, and the aromas of white bread and fried orange peel.

The flavors are lightly toasted white bread, orange peel, nutmeg, a little clove and banana, and a hint of cinnamon. A smooth swallow leaves a mild pepper/ginger/cinnamon heat.

TBH I wasn't expecting a lot from this beer and I was pleasantly surprised. Holiday White Ale isn't the best spiced witbier around, but it is a pretty good affordable alternative, worth picking up a 6 fit when you're in the mood for something other than lagers & IPA's.

What better beer to drink on Halloween than a Christmas IPA? This is from Goose Island and is 7.5% ABV.
A dark amber color with a small white head. Minimal lacing.
Aroma of caramel, fruit, earthy hops.
Taste of caramel/toffee, some orange. Late kiss of hops.
    Certainly malt-forward.
    Nice beer.

Great review! I completely agree that it differs quite a bit from the super thick and sweet BA stouts out there. I feel like it retains more of the base stout while still showcasing the barrel. Cheers!

I've been drinking vicariously through you all since yesterday, our one son was sick Friday and we all felt a little off so I played it safe and avoided beer till today. Looking forward to some fun trick or treating later tonight with the kids and an obligatory/cliche night of watching Hocus Pocus with a pumpkin beer and my better half.

I was very excited to come across Kozel in cans locally, 8$ a four pack taboot! Seen/read about them on here but have never seen them available locally till now. I grabbed their cerny (their dark lager), sometime soon I'll grab their pilsner which was also there. I'm a huge fan of low abv beers so a 3.8% lager seemed about perfect for afternoon drinking.

Beautiful colored beer, the picture doesn’t do it justice. At first glance crystal clear chestnut brown but when held up to light it has a really nice red hue to it. Head settles into a really thick creamy layer of beige, some random splotches of lace. Off to a good start with this one.

The aroma instantly hits me as toffee, and reminds me of things caramelize when they cook. Behind that there is some rustic very prominent fresh baked bread notes. It almost reminds me of when I would make sourdough minus the sour part. A delight to smell this beer. I’d even say there is some subtle nuttiness in the background as well.

There are some surprises in the taste, multiple. At first it was the bread notes from the nose but then out of nowhere there comes a perfectly subtle chocolate note that the finishes with the slightest touch of roast. It’s comes out right in the aftertaste and just lingers beautifully with the chocolate note.

And finally a literally perfect mouthfeel a very light body but in no way watery. It has a soft feel because of a creamy and gentle carbonation. I don’t perceive any bitter, this one finishes super clean and fast.

Sorry that was a long one but this beer really wowed me. Knew nothing about it but as I sit here on the porch and slowly sip away I keep thinking this is about the perfect beer for the moment. Time to buy more soon, who knows when it’ll be back. Also makes me very much look forward to their lezak as well! I cannot recommend this beer enough. Fun fact I came in 20.8% above rdev :joy:

@tzieser go get some of this!!!

I'm going to save the Old Fezziwig until closer to Christmas so Holiday Porter is the last of the “new to me” from the Beers for Cheers pack.
This is another one that exceeded my expectations.

Holiday Porter is a dark, dark chestnut with old copper highlights and a tall, long lasting, khaki head which laces beautifully and a very mild aroma of dark toast and toffee.

There isn't much in the way of “holiday” flavors. There is dark toast, coffee, a little dark chocolate, a little caramel, some background hoppy bitterness. The swallow is clean and dry with a nice hop/hours old cold coffee bitterness.

Holiday Porter is a bit in the thin side, but it is a decent, unpretentious beer that sort of reminds me of a less robust Anchor. This might not be my first choice for Porters, but you could do far worse.

    Good afternoon NBW
My first beer from Estonia purchased yesterday at a local bottle shop.
    Põhjala Must Kuld Porter
    [IMG]

11.2oz bottle poured into a perfect pint glass at 55° F 7.8% ABV. Label states to see bottle for born on and best before dates. Now that I've poured the beer I can see the black ink on the neck indicating it was bottled 5/4/21 and best before 5/4/23. The beer pours very dark brown with minimal light penetration and medium brown colored head. The head recedes to a thin ring and island. The aroma is mild with bittersweet chocolate, pipe tobacco, a bit of smoke and hints of dark, dried fruit. The taste is semisweet roasted malt with notes of caramel, chocolate, leather, prune and pipe tobacco. Moderate bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with just less than medium carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Overall, very good to excellent. Proof that a delicious porter doesn't need 3 or 4 added ingredients beyond malt, yeast, hops and water.

This beer raises my BA country total to 31. It's getting harder and harder to find new ones. Now that I know the trick for reading the freshness date, I might pick up the coffee beer they had as well. Didn't want to take the plunge with no clue on dates.

    Cheers all!

@Coronaeus do they measure ABV differently in Canada? My first beer was stated at a not too crazy 8.5% but despite the fact that I took my dear sweet time drinking it (probably about 2 hours end to end), I could clearly feel it by the end. That said, a light buzz won't stop me from moving onto beer #2, a mystery beer from @2beerdogs, who combined with @Coronaeus, @Dimidiata and @foundersasap seem to have conspired to blow up my porch with a ridiculous selection of amazing beers over the last month.

Let's see what this one is all about:
Appearance: The pour is immediately intriguing, as you don't see a lot of garnet colored beers (or at least I don't). Once it settles in the glass it's much darker, and almost looks black, but it had very clear red hues on the pour itself. Almost zero head / carbonation. 3.75
Aroma - On the nose I get loads of grape with some earthy funk underneath. This certainly smells like it was brewed with some sort of red grapes. 4.25
Taste - Taste is really interesting. There's a tiny bit of sweetness immediately followed by what seem to be tannins, perhaps from some grape skins? These (what I think are tannins) create a little bit of bite, but not in a bitter way. Underneath all of this is an earthy mustiness that rounds out the flavor profile quite nicely. The finish is quite long and interesting as well, as the taste really sticks with you. This beer would definitely not be for everybody, but Derek, given my style preferences, you were spot on with this one. I'm really enjoying the depth and complexity. 4.00
Feel is relatively light with almost no carbonation. 3.75.
Overall, very interesting and different beer that I'm thoroughly enjoying. 4.0

    The reveal:
Neath the Old Vine from The Bruery. Derek, this was a great choice for a blind beer, and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I seriously might randomly show up at your house some time just to see what other amazing beers you have lurking in your cellar!

Greeting fellow NBSers! A clear, sunny, bright and cool day here in the Fourth Corner. We put over 1300 people into the theatre last night for a showing of Rocky Horror Picture Show, complete with a Ghost Cast. It was fun, as RHCP always is, but a hectic few hours.

For me, the best thing about halloween is November 1, when the candy goes on sale. So I've got that to look forward to tomorrow. Not tricking myself with my first entry of the day, Revitalizer, a new Pale Ale from Boundary Bay. A nice smooth brew, with a good citrus hop kick: https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/701/575120/
