Great pic. And your description "Peanut yellow/orange," is spot on.

Good Sunday afternoon, New Beer Samplers and commentators. While I reviewed several new beers yesterday, I was lazy and didn't post them on this thread. So this is my "official" NBW review this week: Conclave Brewing's Transcendent Leaf Peeping, an American Porter.

Conclave Brewing is probably the best brewery in the state that isn't widely known. Its IPAs are uniformly excellent; in fact, comparable to Kane and Troon. And its dark beers are very good, as well. Conclave doesn't can as regularly as other brewers so you don't see its beers being enjoyed out of state on BA very often. Nonetheless, this is a brewery worthy of seeking out.

Poured from freshly filled growler into a pint glass. Ir pours a deep walnut color with cola hues, and a half finger of creamy, medium-khaki head and lacing. A nice roasty aroma of chocolate malt, caramel, buttery nuts, and tobacco. This is nice! It's roasty with lots of burnt coffee grounds, baker's chocolate, charred nuts, and a hint of caramel. It finishes with mild bitterness. The mouth feel is moderately creamy with low carbonation. I'm not sure whether that is typical or the growler wasn't capped tightly enough (it was taped with electrical tape). At 5.8% ABV I'll have no trouble finishing the 32 oz. growler. Overall, Transcendent Leaf Peeping is delightful. While it doesn't have the "wow" factor of some of Conclave's offerings, it is solid in every respect. For someone who hasn't had a Porter before this would be a great introduction to the style.

I'll be honest. I was hoping to purchase a growler of a DIPA, Trees of Green, but it wasn't available. Nonetheless, this is a very fine new beer to review. Cheers, NBW!

Very clear, light gold body; lively carbonation; no head. Nice farmhouse smells; barnyard funk, fresh cut hay, some lemon and other citrus notes. Very pleasant flavors; sweet white wine; green apple, lemon, raspberry, and peach; tart. Moderately heavy body; smooth and rather flat; very acidic overall with a touch of underlying sweetness for depth.

I heard good things about this beer and paid a pretty price for it ($65, actually ordered it by mistake, but so it goes). Overall, this is a decent beer for the style but not something I think warrants the price paid for it.

    -------------------------

A $10 bottle of cheap, sweet Riesling or chardonnay would be a better value and experience.

Hello Not Quite Late Night NBW/NBS.
Hope all of you are well. Happy New Year! And Happy New Beer!
Just put this interesting one into the data base:
A Milkshake Orange by Paperback Brewing in Glendale, CA.

A category I am a little hesitant to pull the trigger on when its my money, but this was gifted...and enjoyed.

16 oz can, no date. Label states, "Blood Orange Milkshake IPA."
Great can art, homage to A Clockwork Orange.
Bountiful white head leaps like Muggsy Bogues, straight up! Slowly settles to a consistent finger high fluff. Turbid, golden, great retention, and clumpy lacing.
Nose pops like an orange cream soda, but less sweet and more pulpy orange. Some wet grainy notes come in, oats?
Flavor is juicy, creamy and lightly sweet. Orange, undertones of grapefruit, oats, and maybe lemongrass chime in as well.
Mouthfeel is medium, a bit pillowy, well carbonated, and finishes with a nice wash of gentle creamy sweetness and some bitterness.
    Overall a really tasty ride.

Greetings fellow NBSers! A sunny day here in the Fourth Corner, with our only remaining snow being that which remains in the shadows. Our friends between Seattle and PDX are having a rough time, rain and melt off have closed so much flooding that I-5 was shut down for over a day.

My first entry of the day is from local brewery Stemma, and is their Mosaic Single hop beer.

My second new-to-me beer for the weekend is from the brewer that specializes in Nordic smoked beers. They continue to release small batches while their announced plan to go contract for their current brand and then start a new small brewery "up north" as we say in Minnesota presumably continues to progress. If/when they finally make the arrangement with a contract brewer, I hope the Hammerheart brewer stays closely involved. I'm no brewer, of course, but I imagine it is far too easy to overbalance the smoke if you just try to crank one out. The Hammerheart crew obviously has a love of smoked beers and it shows.

The smoke dominates the aroma, roasted malts and floral hops peek through. I get mostly smoked meat in the aroma, but some campfire as well.

Slightly cloudy golden yellow, high level of carbonation, topped by a relatively short, white head with decent retention, taking several minutes to recede to a thick cap and/or 1/8 inch head which lasts quite awhile.

The flavor is likewise dominated by the smoked malts, and as with the aroma, more smoked meats than campfire. Even though the smoke is front and center, it is not overbearing and is handled with a deft touch by the brewer, allowing the underlying helles to come through in the hops and yeast flavors. A very nicely balanced smoked lager. There is a light touch of bittering throughout with a dry finish and enjoyable smoky and floral aftertaste.

The body is moderate with a nicely carbonated feel.

Overall, another very well done smoked beer by Hammerheart.

Good evening, NBW friends. On a cold evening in Northern Indiana, I’m going to Lagerville tonight, with three beers received during NBW BIF #14. This first one is from our friend @FBarber and is my first beer from Art History. To say I’m pumped would be an understatement of mythical proportions.

Pours a straw color with a suspended haze look and a sudsy white head that laces the glass nicely. Lovely stuff. Substantial lemongrass and cracker aromas dominate the nose. Salivation has begun.

That lemongrass flavor is bold and beautifully delicious, and the cracker flavor is assertive at the back of the palate, but there’s a slight herbal flavor that works really well with the two preeminent flavors and really elevates this excellent German Pilsner. It’s nicely bitter and very crisp, and would always be in my beer fridge if I had regular access to it.

This is my first beer from Art History, and I am duly impressed.

I think this is my last, at least new, beer of the night. Down to my final 2-3 from @BBThunderbolt. This one I think is from the brewery you work at, at least that is what I have deduced over my time here. If its not, well, I'm a bad detective.

Boundary Bay - Cedar Dust (6.5% ipa)

Pours an almost clear golden color with hints of copper, very nice dense and white head. Leaves some nice lacing as it settles. Nice retention in the form thin but consistent layer as it drinks down.

Aroma is citrus rind, blue spruce and a little bit of malty grain.

The taste is citrusy and spruce has well with a nice malt presence. Lends a nice subtle sweetness that almost lends a candied orange to the rind note.

Medium body but very easy drinker, I really like the carbonation on this beer, some thing about it gives it a smooth feel. A really nice well paired bitterness on a dry finishing beer.

This IPA is right up my alley and I'm enjoying it a lot. Thanks Terry! I hope you all have a smooth and calm week that leads us right back to here in 5 days. See you all then!

A golden color with just a bit of suspended haze under a pillowy white head that laces the glass nicely, this beautiful BA lagerbier some grass, cracker, and a significant corn aroma on the nose.

The taste is fairly balanced, with the corn supplying a sweetness that actually works really well - I could drink a gallon of this crisp lager on a hot summer day after mowing our lawn. Really well done.

Barrique does some cool stuff with their barrel aging and this beer is no exception. Gimme more.

Happy NBS hope everyone had a good Holiday. Back in NC after being in Cleveland for a week with my sister's family and parents. I have all 3 cats moved now, and Julia was moved down since the week before Christmas. We have been having an amazing time. Mostly watching movies and documentaries to make up for the 3 months apart. She still doesn't have her car, but we will get it eventually. We both work from home anyways so it's not too much of an issue.

I am going to try and review more, its still pretty slow; but I seem to be in the mood for a beer review more often. Hopefully more than 100 reviews this year, and do some catch up with my untappd beers too if I ever find the time. There are so many other hobbies I spend more time on now.

Austin Brothers Cherry bomb. This was fantastic. Lasting rocky head retention and soapy lacing. Aromas and flavors of big Montmorency cherry juice, and fruit skin/pits with some cracker malts and herbal/grassy/peppery hops. Huge juicy cherry aromas, more balanced flavors. Light herbal/grassy bitterness and fruit tang/tartness on the finish. Medium-high carbonation and light-medium body. Some balanced bready grainy malts, sticky hops, and fruit tang/acidity in the mouthfeel. Very crisp/clean/refreshing finish with no lingering fruit astringency. Very clean lager flavors with no yeasty notes. Very flavorful for 5.1%. Definitely one of the best fruit lagers I've had, plenty of authentic fruit flavors, without overpowering the base beer style. 4.3

Had quite a few yesterday and felt it a bit this morning. Got in a long run and feel good now! My first new beer for today is one sent to me by @FBarber. Utopias WWS.

2021 bottle poured at fridge temp. Pours black with minimal head. Tons of tiny bubbles throughout, and these persist. Nose is toffee, fudge, bourbon, booze, a touch of molasses, sherry, and a bit of oak.

The taste is nice. Boozy. Black licorice is strong, especially on the aftertaste. Roasted malts, bourbon, toffee, red grapes, molasses, and chocolate. Part of me thinks this is a boozy mess, but then the next sip changes my mind. Definitely worth letting this warm in the glass. I also think that a year or more will smooth out the sharp edges.

Mouthfeel is medium to thick. The alcohol heat on this one is real. Burns on the way down for sure. Thanks for sending this one, Frank!
