Mixed six packs are great for this. I can grab 6 or 12 of a standby and get 6 new beers to check out for a flat price.

Availability is limited in my locale, so whether I buy a new beer or an old standby is mostly dependent on what is on the shelf.

That's about where I'm at. I definitely drink more tried-and-true beer than new beer, but I do spend a significant amount of my drinking time trying/reviewing new beers.

A lot of new beer for me still but not all new. I'm slowly moving to having new beers in the fridge next to a staple from Sierra Nevada I like. I can have something new and shiny in the fridge but sometimes something like a Torpedo or Nooner just hits the spot.

Combination of trying new beers along with a stockpile of tried and true beers.
About 4 out of every ten new beers I try is either an outright dud or something I'd never spend money on again, so gots to have those favorites on hand that I know won't fail me.
