Heard there was a new batch out. Anyone tried it?

    There's a third batch?

After the first batch, I am not scrambling to buy another. Can't afford any expensive BA stouts that have to be consumed within a few weeks.

I guess? I was informed the other day that it's available in the brewery again. Assumed it was perhaps a third batch.

*bookmarked for when they release Great*

The 2nd batch of BA Odin's is awesome, btw.

I thought the 2nd batch was a boozy hot mess, but hey - that's me.
Not hating on Alpine, their hoppy offerings are the best on the planet. But I won't be burned by their barrel stuff anymore.

Also, what makes you think that Great won't be an infected mess?

"mess" has to be one of the most over used terms in beer geekery along with "blew my mind"and all those variations. And isn;t "boozy" and "hot" redundant? It also makes me think you're throwing around the word "mess" in an effort to say it is boozy and hot, as oppose to bozzy, yet not hot, nor boozy.

Also, not saying Great won't be infected. Just saying it will sell out in 13mins.

Semantics. Basically, I think the base beer is okay. I thought the BA version was very boozy. I thought the balance was totally off (as in, it was a mess) and all in all, it was very mediocre.

I agree that Great will sell out fast, but that's not unexpected. Hype is hype, and us beer nerds will buy anything.

Batch 2 Odin's was pretty tasty. Lots of roast, chocolate, and just the right amount of bourbon character, and this is coming from someone who doesn't even drink bourbon. Sometimes I like a slightly boozy imperial stout. This was spot on for me.

I echo penniwisdom's thoughts on this. I brought back a couple of batch 2's from my last SD trip, enjoyed one, still have one.

Not necessarily. I would say double Dba is boozy but not hot, for example. Huge whiskey flavor and aroma, warming to drink, not "hot" (harsh, high alcohols).

I have not heard of a 3rd bottling of BA Odin's. The barrels used for Odin's are now being used for Great from what I understand. You can see them in the brewery actually. Good went in to the barrels in June from what the label says.

I opened a 2nd batch Odin last week and it still tasted great. I also prefer a strong stout on the boozey side. It was closet stored and not fridge stored by the way.

With no respect for customers by not replacing or even acknowledging obviously infected BA Token and the 1st bottling of BA Odin's Raven, I am weary of anything other than their IPA/DIPA offerings.

I'm pretty sure there was no new bottling of BA Odin's and the bottles that were sold from the brewery were ones held back from the 2nd batch, just like the expo bottles weren't a new batch just selling some of what they held back.

Can't speak for any additional odins released, but the expo was a new batch from what they said. The bottles were different from the Feb release also. The new batch was better in my opinion too, it tasted less oaked.

That's not the release I'm talking about. When the most recent expo sold out, about a week or so later they had put some more bottles up for sale at the brewery with a 2 bottle limit, at the same time they were also selling more BA Odin's.

Ahhhhh. I wish I would have caught that Odin was back. I would have enjoyed a few more bottles.

I had a lengthy e-mail conversation with these guys about how I had tried 3 bottles of BA Token (all infected with diacetyl) as well as Batch 1 BA Odin's Raven (same infection) and all they could say basically was "your a fucking idiot, the GABF judges said no infection, and we've tried bottles from here with no signs, you must be lying." Those guys are terrible owners. Do they make great IPA and IIPA? Yes. Do they BA well? No. Do they care about customers? Clearly not. I'm staying away from them with their complete lack of customer service. I had a whole tasting group of guys to back me up and they still don't care.

I've had amazing customer service on similar issues from:
    Lost Abbey
    Great Divide
    Cigar City
    and more.

If you make a bad product no matter what industry you should care about customers.

I agree that they and all others with infection issues should be honest and try to make some sort of amends. I know they are a small operation and a straight up replacement may be detrimental to their finances. However, I would like a "sorry" and a bottle of Duet to square up (for example). Some respect for the customers and a response to the KNOWN issues would go a long way to maintaining and developing a loyal customer base. Just a thought.

I pretty much had the same thing happened to me, I just wanted to exchange my 6 bottles of "infected" BA Token for some of their IPA's. I never got a reply through email so I called and they pretty much told me I'm screwed.

After how they handled the issue with bottles of flat PH, it seems Alpine is getting their shit together and taking some accountability now.
