If these turn out to be actually good and they used Dino labels and names for the beers, I could really see them becoming popular....everybody loves the Prairie dino glasses so who knows...ISO BA T Rex

At some point, they should just ditch that it is German and go this route. Then never admit you did it due to it being German influenced.

Every time I read that it comes out as SARS, which isnt exactly enticing me to want to ingest it.

Could just be me, though.

FWIW, I thought their Sangre de Shiva is quite tasty and interesting.

Sangre de shiva is their best beer imo. Good wine barrel aged weizenbock

Has anyone pointed this out to them? Or is the spelling intended?

For those not very familiar with New Braunfels, Saur is the name of an old road in New Braunfels (Saur Lane). Now I'm not sure if they used that intentional, as a local play on words to name their "sour" style beers, or what. Just wanted to add my two cents to help unravel this mystery!

Saurs aren't for everyone, I guess.

As far as beer taste, I've seen a lot of people saying they get off flavors from these beers, especially laundry detergent from WasserWeisse.

I just drank one and can see how maybe someone gets that (likely because they are new to funk), but I did not get any off flavors. However, the beer poured clearish at first, and then a super milky gold. Flavor changed just a little.

Caveat: My sense of smell is average and perhaps what I deem acceptable bacteria-funk smells are lenient
But I'm quite happy with this particular bottle. If every bottle was like this, I'd send one to my brother and call it acceptable to trade or extra.

Anyone else have good or bad to say?

I've had a number of their beers and haven't enjoyed a one. Their beers tend to be wildly inconsistent and think the fact that their mash bills (for all beers) are 85% wheat might have something to do with that.

I thought Sangre De Shiva was great, but I got an absolutely horrible bottle of Les Fleurs de Mal. Like one of the worst things I've tasted in a long time.

This is helpful fellas, looks like I'll be avoiding them until consistency is better.

Perhaps it is the crossroads of a phonetic spelling of a country accent and humor derived from consumption of the fruits of their labor?

Resurrecting this thread to see if anyone has gotten a sour beer that wasn't labeled as "saur". I purchased Shiva's tears, as I'm a big fan of darker Weizenbocks, and got some major funk and diacetyl in the aroma and sour/funk and buttered toast in the taste. Not that it matters, but I picked this up at the Live Oak Spec's.

Lol....can't believe there's a thread on this or that anyone cares. Uh-oh...on their website they also have a category named "fun-damentals". The proper spelling of 'fundamental' doesn't have a hyphen in it.....how dare they...do brewers not know they cannot use any creative license whatsoever when naming or categorizing their beers??

I don't see anything in this post discussing New Braunfels not being allowed to be creative or talking against them on it. The first post was made solely for clarification on it, nothing more.
