I can appreciate this, but I can't offer you any sympathy. It sounds like the situation there is already a lot more favorable than it is where I live.

I don't believe I called anyone's point of view 'stupid'. I may have said that I don't agree with a point of view, which is totally different realm than saying one is 'stupid'. I love trying new beers, but only if it makes sense from all aspects. I'm usually leery of buying a whole six pack of a new kid on the block's beer versus, say another brewery that has passed the quality test. There are two problems I have with the bomber/750 format (of untested beers). One, I may not want 22/26 oz of that particular beer in one sitting and by opening that bomber you are committing to it unless you have someone to split it with. Second factor is price. The sub $6 bomber is a good price point (for me) to go into something new blindly, one you cross the threshold of $8 & up for what is essentially 2 beers, I start to give a jaundice eye. I know some styles cost more to produce (DIPA/RIS,) but if we are talking something like a single IPA or an Amber ale asking for that kind of coin, I'm going to pass it up. Like you said before, a perfect world would have all brewers release their beer in a 12oz format, wed could go someplace that sells singles & we could try a bunch of different product with little risk financially or otherwise.

Yup, and there are two new MN breweries with expensive 750s that just aren't good enough to justify the price.

The reason it's not equivalent is because it's like saying, you pay $2,000 a month for a 1,600-square-foot house, so you would willingly pay $6,000 a month for a 4,800-square-foot house. No I wouldn't, because I don't need a 4,800-square-foot house. I understand the math, but I'm only buying what I'm buying.

I know bombers are a ruse (although by any measure, not even remotely the biggest one on the American public). I wish beer were sold by the ounce, regardless of format. I'm not defending it. I'm just saying that, given the hard reality when I walk into the grocery store or beer shop, sometimes a bomber makes more overall sense, even if it probably never makes the best price-per-ounce sense.

Bad analogy. You're not going to drink your house and therefore buy more house when you're done drinking the first house. Show me someone who buys the same exact house more than once and I'll eat my nose.

I understand your apprehension to give them a shot but you should try this one, especially since considering from what I've seen, which is hopefully right, there aren't too many a-game cali stouts that aren't bals. This is the one and only beer I've had from them and recommend you try, its pretty tasty. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/23641/65312

If you're ever up in north county, try them out - their spin-offs are pretty tasty, and they do taster flights. Plus it's stupid-close to Aztec, Mother Earth, and Latitude 33.

Ah dammit, I started out arguing yesterday exactly that a beer/house analogy was no good. Your avatar is seriously messing with my head, what is that thing?

Still, if I only want one bottle of a given beer and my choice is to buy a large expensive single bottle or six smaller bottles, I'll buy the large bottle even if it's more per ounce. I've made my reasons for this clear throughout this thread.

    Yes, basically it boils down to;
    if you feel...
Ticking > drinking lots of what you love- then you aren't bothered by high priced single bombers

    if you feel...
drinking lots of what you love > ticking- then you are bothered because even if the high priced bomber is just as good as one of your favorites, it has no chance of entering your drinking rotation because the price is just too high.

I like a little bit of both ticking and drinking in mass quantity, so my personal high price threshold is $6 for regular strength beer; $11 for imperial strength.
Any more than that I'll pass on the tick and get a an all-time favorite 6-pack.

unlikely. you're telling me that beer is better than stone IRS which is half the price?

Nope, just saying its good enough for you to try once. I personally didn't love stone IRS when I first tried it but I've been meaning to pick up another bottle since my taste has changed a lot since then and its an unbelievably well priced beer. It's kind of ironic how that beer is so cheap yet some of stones other offerings are so expensive.

Why? The phrase "vote with your wallet" comes to mind. Don't know if it's all that effective, but if I see a new brewery pop up but they're only selling bombers and 750ml bottles for an arm and a leg...well, I'm not going to be trying them out.

I'd rather go to the new brewery's tasting room, try out all their beers fresh from the source for $1/taster and decide then if any of the beers are worth buying.
