Alesmith does not distribute to VA. Perhaps you are confusing them with Alewerks, who are located in VA.

They did have a booth at the Asheville Winter Warmer but when I asked the Surly dudes about it, they said not currently planned (though they could have been being coy).

Cool. To be completely honest, out of the four you mentioned, Surly would have me most excited. Cigar City is awesome but I had my share of Jai Alai when in Florida and there are plenty of just as great IPAs in NC's distribution (NoDa Hop Drop is amazing!). Maduro is just okay and, you know if we saw any CCB distribution, it'd be just those two beers. Yeah, maybe we'd see Tocobaga or something but, even if we only got Furious and two of Surly's other year-round beers I'd be way more stoked (Coffee Bender is incredible!). It'd be great for Troeg's to be here as I love NN, Mad Elf, Flying Mouflan and their regulars like Perpetual, Dreamweaver, Troegenator but I've had them all many times over. As someone constantly wanting to try new things, Surly just has that allure to me since I've only ever had a one can of Furious, one can of Abrasive and one can of Coffee Bender so I'm craving more. Sixpoint is very good, would much like to be able to get Resin and 3Beans around here but, as many have already said, most of their stuff is passable compared to the other breweries mentioned.

Curses. Well, as long as Troeg's is most likely bringing their stuff down, I'm happy enough.

At least the year round Surly stuff is easy to get online from France44.

Deschutes was a guest brewery at Asheville Winter Warmer 2 years ago but haven't come to NC yet. Unfortunately, being there doesn't mean they'll be entering NC. But with their volume growth and other rumors, it's certainly possible in the next couple of years. I'd be surprised though if they skip so many nearby states.

I've played that game before....and lost....like why was Kuhnhenn at Raleigh Rare a couple years back. I don't start looking for any brewery to distribute to NC from that far away....until they have at least distributed to their neighboring states. I wouldn't expect Surly any time soon.

um, how about the fact that I saw Kuhnhenn at 2 consecutive years of Durham WBF, and bring Cremem Brulee Java to Stout Day at Tylers Apex?

Any more word on these new breweries? AleSmith made it into the Triangle area but no other movement has happened.

Those Harris-Teeters, Lowes, and others are going to be a battleground for shelf space. Looking at these modern beer sets and how space is allocated is very interesting for sure. Relative to other threads going on, Troegs is the real deal and I wish them well with their choice of distribution.

FWIW: I talked with the senior Kuhnhenn guy at volunteer's reception at WBF like 6 years ago. He said they had no intention of distributing in NC and that he came to WBF every year because it was a fun fest in a beautiful place and he really liked the organizers. My point is that the intention of breweries isn't always obvious to us.

yea two years ago I talked to the owners of Kehnhenn's parents who were manning their booth which was across from mine. Good people, but they also said they just come for fun. Plus the desire for the beer is there, so why not.

Also, the true question is how Tyler's Apex got a keg of their Creme Brulee Java Stout for Stout Day in 2012.

Jeffries in Raleigh has them now. No word, but Harris should follow suit soon.

You probably did. You can get the Brewery Direct beers at just about all the T-wines in the country even if the particular brewery doesn't distribute to the state the T-wine is located in. That's why they call it Brewery Direct. Direct from the brewery without going through a distributor. This is also why T-wine sells them for cheaper than beers that aren't Brewery Direct. They make more money off of those sales without having to mark it up much at all. Same with the Winery and Distillery Direct brands.
