I see the point about giving a brand new brewery a chance to dial in their equipment, etc., and as long as I know they are brewing some good stuff, I'd certainly go back. (and have in some cases- renegade brewery in Denver and River north, who is brewing incredible stuff now.)

ON the other hand a brewery really has to get their **** together pretty quickly. We as consumers have far too many choices to patiently wait for a brewery to come along. I also think a beer that is not perfect or mediocre is different than a beer being a diacetly bomb or having major flaws.

Also- with the craft beer craze going on right now I feel there are way too many new breweries opening that have no business doing so? just because you've homebred beer for a while doesn't make you a qualified beer master in a commercial brewery... For the sake of not making this negative I won't name some I have in mind....

With some of the local breweries that have opened up in my area the past few years, it has been my experience that sometimes it takes a few months to up to a year to go from brewing decent, passable beer to brewing solidly good beer. And sometimes it can take a few years for new breweries to from from brewing solidly good beer to brewing outstanding, amazing beer. Patience is key.

There's so much amazing beer out there that if I have something of yours and it's awful, it will take an awful lot to get me back into your brewery. Plus, I can just look at Castle Island and say "See, this is how you launch a brewery - amazing beer and pretty good local distro from day 1."
