Just had a pint of Olde World Porter from Mancave ( with two dots over the second "a"..how do you do that?) Very nice strongish porter yet quite traditional. Anyone know anything about them?
I hadn't heard of them, and when I googled the name, the first hits were for Man Cave Brewing (2 words, sans umlaut) in Syracuse, Indiana. Eventually I got some Eugene hits, including an Indiegogo campaign in 2013 that fell short of its goal. "Strongish porter yet quite traditional" sounds good to me.
Did Surly add an umlaut to their name for their Pentagram beer? If they didn't, they really should have. \m/
They're fairly new, but it seems like it's now been close to a year since I started seeing their stuff around town. Tap and Growler even did a mini tap takeover with them recently (they like to call them tap attacks), where they put on the porter you mention, along with their "english ale" and some beer called bang biscuit. Haven't tried the porter yet, but so far I don't feel like they've really distinguished themselves yet in the community. I can't think of anything I've had from them that was memorable, and when I do see a keg of theirs on tap somewhere (bier stein seems to put on some of their beers occasionally), it seems like it takes a while for the bar to blow through it. Seems like they haven't quite caught on down here in Eugene yet.
Had a Mandarin Warrior there this week. Nice golden ale with a little kick in the end on a bright and sunny day. Free peanuts.......
They just started selling maybe 3-4 months ago. Their first few batches were murkier than an East Coast IPA, like, chunks. They have cleaned up the beers since then. Their DIPA flagship won in a blind tasting against all other Eugene breweries a few months ago. Their tasting room still isn't open, waiting to get a second exit in case of fires. I haven't had anything since the murk bomb Farmhouse. Not sure what will happen with the DIPA since the hops they use are super hard to get. @Reidrover where did you have the beer at?
