I've often thought, given the amount of U.S. based traffic that heads over to White Rock B.C. for lunch on a given weekend/nice day, that a nice brewpub would work well in Blaine. Good luck to these guys. And, I hope they've broached the topic of water usage and treatment with the town fathers.
He's actually a good friend of mine, and it's just him, he makes amazing beer so there's no doubt in my mind this will succeed
I used to work at Natures Path Foods in Blaine, and we had issues with the town about water. We ended up installing a small wastewater treatment set-up, and trucking it down to Bellingham, whose system could handle it. No doubt we were using a lot more water than a small brewery will, at least in the beginning. But, long term, it's something to think about. Good luck to him.
Per the article, “We have a lot of hammer swinging to do on our 100-year-old barn," so perhaps they have some old-timey water rights. They noted it would be (at least initially) a production brewery without a tasting room, so I'm guessing it's not in a retail-friendly area. Also, based on the thread title, I am disappointed that this place is not built into an underpass or next to the Peace Arch.
The issue we had, was not the amount used, but the amount the towns water system could process. I don't follow Blaine politics, so they might have upgraded their waste system by now. But, man, did my company have some battles with them during my tenure.
So he worked at natures path for a few years and the location of all the property is just past natures path on sweet road
