Besides Wine World (mentioned above) pretty much across the highway on the southbound side of Rt. 18, there's Marketplace Wines and Spirits - pretty easy to hit both at the same time. From my few trips up there (WW opened after I moved out of the area) it seems Wine World's prices are slightly better, so don't buy anything without checking both. And depending on how one defines "nearby", to the northeast there's Oak Tree is South Plainfield. Only 10 miles away, but it can be a pretty annoying drive especially if you're unfamiliar with the local roads and it is anything close to rush hour. Once considered possibly the best in the state, recent reviews suggest it's gone downhill. It was always a "tickers" paradise with a huge singles section (of dubious freshness, as is typical) and lots of hard to find imports, as well, but prices reflected that. (Haven't been up there myself in a year or so, but that's not my sort of store). The same distance from NB, but easier to get to (right up Rt. 1) is a big discount store with a huge selection, great prices, walk-in cooler, and a growler station - Joe Canal's of Iselin/Woodbridge.
Also Buy Rite in North Plainfield if you're going up that way for Oak Tree (which is terrible, btw). Not too far and solid growler fills there too.
Deff skip oak tree. I stop in there periodically and I don't understand it's ratings. Marketplace is prob the best to go to. If you do ask for Jim and tell him I sent you. Just say my user name and he will help you out with getting the best the store offers.
Yes Buy Rite in North Plainfield, it better that Oak Tree. Oak Tree isn't what it used to be(sorry to say)and I live in SP.
