Out and about and one of our go-to breweries this afternoon. The idea came to me, that we need a new category for what attracts us to a brewery venue. Our choice for this afternoon was one of our long time choices for multiple reason. #1 the beer, #2 the option to purchase pitchers of beer, #3 the venue, i.e., ease of access, parking, etc., #4 the rotating food truck choices.

While enjoying a pitcher of a great Citrus IPA, and a very tasty wood fired pizza from the food truck, it dawned on me this is the best venue for "people watching". Kids, dogs, clearly locals after work, tourists, and everything else, it dawned on me this was the best "people watching" venue.

The venue? Wedge Studios - Asheville.

Miles, hope you are doing well. The Alpha Hops Society misses you! AHS is keeping my interest so far this year.
I suspect that "Vibe" covers part of what you are talking about. Da Boss and i typically run out to a local brewery at lunch time given my contrarian nature when only other old folks are out and about and the crowds less. Given that, my Vibe ratings revolve around the feel of the taproom as opposed to the human entertainment but yes that is definitely part of the rating.
    Cheers!

I guess my letting AHS go by this year is somewhat based on being a member since the first year. The beer offerings have always been exceptional, but the recent events (post COVID) have been pretty much cookie cutter repeats of every other event that year, i.e., a gathering in the High Gravity room.
Previous years events have included extensive tours of the brewery (over 2 hours), pulling nails in the barrel aging room to taste the progress of the aging process, suckling pigs served along the river, an alternate venue, very interesting and informative, at River Bend Malts.

Being one of those 'old folks' being out and about, we have a number of breweries we frequent. All those on our list have solid to exceptional beers, but different aspects that help us select. Mondays, a number of regulars (perhaps 20ish) eventually show up late afternoon'ish. We call it our Cheers where everyone knows your name, many bring snacks. It's also $4 pint night. Sometimes it's the food/food truck, sometimes meeting friends. Of late because the tasting room is air-conditioned.

That's the beauty of living in Asheville. So many different brewery choices means just as many different aspects to suit the situation. In my opinion, the brewery with the best food is Hillman and their beers are solid, so that's my go-to when entertaining folks that aren't beer geeks. If there are children in tow, I'd probably opt for Hi-wire. Again, solid beer while having plenty of room and games. If I'm entertaining beer geeks who like trendy styles, I'll bring em to Burial where the food is also solid. If I'm entertaining beer geeks that are looking for more traditional styles, Cellarest is the place to be. So blessed to be in a beer town that has something for everyone.

    1. Quality of beer
    2. Quality of food, in house/trucks
    3. Vibe, (countryside rustic setting the best, Oxbow, Newcastle ME)
    4. Decent live local music

Pitchers never crossed my mind, I guess it's b/c I jump around with styles too much, but interesting!

Nice idea for a thread, maybe it should be on the main page for wider viewing & responses:grin:
