Anyone else love Boy King but turned off by the canned version? I grabbed a 6 pack from Total Wine last week and was anxious to try it but it doesn't taste like what I remember from the bottle. Way maltier and just not a pleasant taste like I've had before. Maybe just my own messed up palate? Curious what others are saying about this batch of Boy King cans.

I wouldn't saw I was turned off by it, but this batch is a little off. COAST is normally remarkably consistent, so this surprises me. Although same thing happened when first canning HopArt. I think this batch of BK is still good, but it is notably maltier. It doesn't even look like the same beer. I wouldn't say that the taste is unpleasant though. I have no question that COAST with resolve this by the next batch (which I understand will be fairly soon).

Also, I tried the Blackbeerd/Boyking Black and Tan and it was actually quite delicious.

Boy King and Dead Arm are back and dated 4/12/16. I hope this batch of BK is a little less malty this time.

I was just popping in to see if anyone had tried this new batch. Curious about this as well.

Picked up a sixer of the 4/12/16 batch. Much improved from the Feb batch. Still a bit maltier and not quite the plethora of hop flavors of some batches, but this is much closer to the Boy King I have known and loved.

I'm drinking one right now as I read this! This batch is definitely better than the first cans from February. Hopefully they will keep tweaking the recipe to return it to it's full glory of yesteryear!

My sister is traveling to Charleston on business and has graciously offered to bring some cans home for me. She will be in N. Charleston. Any bottle shops I should direct her to?

The Brew Cellar in Park Circle is decent but super small, and although it pretty much only has high quality beers, the selection is far from the best. Not many other choices in North Charleston. I would recommend she go to Total Wine in West Ashley or Bottles in Mt. Pleasant; TW is probably easier to get to (depending on where she is staying) and will probably have better prices. CBX was the gold standard in Charleston bottle shops for a long time, but coming from North Charleston its more of a pain to get to (plus its more expensive and the prices tend to be higher than Bottles and TW).

Also, she could stop by COAST and buy cans directly from there; it is in North Charleston but only open Thurs-Sat. Last time I was there they had Hop Art, Boy King, Blackbeerd, 32/50 and Dead Arm all in sixers of cans.

Thanks Zac much appreciated. Any other beers I should have her look for besides Coast in your opinion?

Definitely have her grab you some Westbrook Gose, its in sixers of cans. And I think Westbrook still has bottles of Grand-mere (cognac BA old ale) at the brewery, I enjoyed that one quite a bit.

I was just at 'Bottles' on Friday and they had all of the COAST cans in stock, including Boy King. They even had a few bottles of the WB Grand-mere left, along with a plethora of the WB cans (my personal favorite is the One Claw) and some Holy City cans. That would be the best place to get everything at once.

Yeah, a sixer of HC Pluffmud would be a good thing to take back. O'Ku makes a bad ass after dinner drink (its not on the menu, ask the blonde bartender for her specialty) thats Pluffmud, bourbon and chocolate liquor. Amazing.

Just popping in to say that BOYKING IS BACK!

I was a bit nervous after the last two batches (which were still good, but a mere shell of the real Boy King), but COAST just dropped a new batch (canned 7/20/16) and its back to its full glory! It still looks different than it used to, perhaps they modified the malt bill or something, but the hops, the glorious hops, are back in full force. Heading back to COAST on Thursday to stock up.

On a somewhat related note, because its only about 1/2 a mile away, have you guys/gals tried The Codfather yet? My god, probably the best friend fish I've ever had. I recommend checking out next time you swing by COAST.
